Disorganized store with tons of clutter. Impressive selection of merchandise, especially gloves. If you are left-handed, there are a TON of gloves to choose from. Poor customer service at checkout. I felt like I was interrupting their conversation by wanting to buy something, and then the cashier who rang up my items was multitasking by scrolling through her phone's Facebook app. She barely said a word to me. Never in my life has my family been treated with so much disrespect as we did by Jeff. He took the bat out of my son's hand because we were discussing pricing on the bat compared to online prices. He said he didn't want our business if we were going to "consider" shopping online. Then he proceeded to say that he didn't want our business and was trying to get us to leave, mind you we were going to buy a bat and a helmet and thought the store had great selections. So I previously had a less than desirable experience here and had not returned for quite some time because of it.. I happened to be at a softball tournament in Hayward on a Saturday. My daughter's bat cracked and her birthday was the following day so I started calling around trying to find the Easton Ghost Spring Break bat in blue with no luck. I checked online and the best price I could find was $499 through Easton or Amazon but neither had a next day shipping option so I would not have it for her birthday. I decided to give West Coast a call and they confirmed they had it in stock. I went and picked it up and had it in the dugout as a surprise for her bday Sunday morning. I paid $369 out the door for the bat so I saved about $150. Jeff helped me and he was amazing, complete opposite experience than my previous. Jeff even offered to take an over the phone payments in the future and allow me to pick up merchandise from his house which is way closer to where I live. I also purchased a pair of matching batting gloves in youth large for $39.99 which ended up being to small when I went to exchange them for adult medium the price was $15 more expensive. Recently came to purchase a new glove for $300! And they were able to help break it in which other places (dicks sporting goods, big 5, etc) don't offer. Jeff the owner is extremely rude and arrogant. While the store has a wide variety to choose from, you need to be aware that the customer service is not always their priority. Jeff takes questions as a form of personal attack and cannot answer, let alone control his emotions. Jeff has an extremely poor "hold" policy, and claims that being a "small business" justifies his lack of functioning hold policies for his store. However I've always had great service here - you just need to ask and not be inpatient. They have all the newest bats and usually a bit less than MSRP. Purchased what I believed was a legit EvoShield product for my son. On the ride home, my 11-year-old noticed something was off -- he Googled the item, compared logos and strap details, and realized it was a knockoff. We returned to the store to address the issue, and instead of acknowledging the problem, the man who sold it to us became rude, dismissive, and even spoke down to my son as if he were scolding his own child. Completely unprofessional and disrespectful. I stayed calm because my children were with me, but I was shocked by his attitude. He sold the knockoff for $79, when the authentic EvoShield product is $109 at Dick's Sporting Goods -- and at least there, you know you're getting the real deal. The best place to look for baseball gear! They have an almost overwhelming selection of items. We recently came in for a catcher's gear set, and it was so good that they had a good selection, and we were able to try leg guards for fit - it's really important to get a set that feels comfortable, and you can really only tell in person. The price of the set we got was $50 cheaper than at big box stores or online, which was great - but honestly, I would have bought it here even if it in any case. read more

I called today to ask some simple questions about a baseball helmet my son needs for a travel baseball team with a uniform policy that includes the make and colour of their helmets. The person who answered the phone was a little dry but nothing serious. It turned out they had the helmet and although I live in Menlo Park I was ready to head to San Leandro. But the minute I asked the price of the helmet he completely changed his tone and raised his voice at me scoffing at the fact that I asked if it was around $50. While this place does have a great selection of baseball equipment, be aware that Jeff the owner has become an arrogant grump with lack of customer service. The phones are rarely answered now, and if they do pick up the phone - know that you get your one question answered with maybe 2 words and then a quick hang up. If you happen to make the drive there to ask your questions in person, it most likely will trigger him to feel attacked. His common responses include "it's people like you who go on the manufacturer's website and buy multiples and sell on eBay that makes it hard for business like mine to acquire inventory. Have a nice day." Really Jeff? If I'm one of them, why would I waste my time driving to your warehouse to look for the bat? As a family that has spent thousands of dollars at his business, it's disappointing to become one of Jeff's punching bag. We've been buying baseball equipment for my son since for the past 6 years while he played in Little League. Now he's in high school and Jeff and his staff continue to be great. Recently went to buy a new first baseman's glove and I'm glad that Jeff gives us options versus trying to upsell us. I had no idea this place existed until a couple of Dads on the Team introduced me to it. Upon our first visit, I knew we were going to be hooked for life. So far we have bought travel ball bats, gloves, batting gloves, protective gear, shirts, hats, seeds, gum, balls and more from Jeff and his crew. They are always super helpful, but the place gets packed on most Saturdays so go in knowing you might have to spend some time there both looking around for what you need and waiting for someone to help you.
