Found them through Yelp and since it was a close option booked an appointment for the hubby here . He generally has his haircuts at a different place but since they are really far out now , we decided to try a new place closer to us . The online appointment process was easy and I got a booking for the very next day . Veronica was his stylist and even though he has no complaints for her , he left unsatisfied . Veronica was a good conversationalist but the haircut and beard trim was just not what he expected even though he gave clear instructions . The prices are reasonable and the shop is located conveniently ,though finding a parking on busy days here is a nightmare. read more

I wanted to take a moment and write about my recent and first time experience with Rough Cut PDX. My usual salon had no slots open in their schedule, so I called Rough Cut in the hope of being able to get in. Luckily a slot was available. The barber was chosen at random, I had no idea who I was getting. I had perhaps one of the most professional and enjoyable hair cuts and beard trims that I had ever had. The barber in question was obviously trained in "Old School" levels of service and styling, the level of attention and detail was unusual and unexpected. The guy gave me a good price, and despite the fact that he was obviously a skilled barber, I felt that we was not giving me his full attention. Rough Cut Is a little gem on the West Side! Marko has been my barber since moving here and i can honestly say he's given me the best haircut out of anyone I've ever been to. Great conversation in the chair. We talk about all kinds of stuff, and thats a great part of the experience. He's always listened to my preferences, as sometimes I get a taper, sometimes a fade, sometimes a lot off the top, sometimes none. In any case, this guy knows his stuff. 10/10 read more

Old School Barber shop or New school Salon - the battle between traditional/puritanical vs metro-sexuality rages on. To explain my rating of Rough cut I have to give yelp readers some background: I have had my hair cut at barbershops and salons in LA, San Fran, and Boston - so I have certain expectations. There they are: 1. A straight razor and foam will be used to finish up the neckline 1a. there will be that horse hair whisk to get the little hairs of my neck and face 2. The quality of the hair cut be very high for *traditional* hair cuts. 3. It will be less expensive than a salon 4. No appt needed, service is fairly speedy (walk in and be seated in ~ half an hour) 5. The barbers will NOT be hot. This is less of an expectation, than a concession. Here's how Rough cut stacks up 1. No foam, no whisk, no straight razor 2. Good haircut - with some direction I got exactly the cut I was looking for, and no mess-ups with the neckline (which is often really embarrassing - you end up with a high fade because some idiot hairdresser decided you looked 'urban' that way) 3. not cheap; $17 for the cut - by way of comparison it was $12 in Santa Monica (LA), the 3rd most expensive city in the US 4. Zzzz - what? it's still not my turn? i waited over an hour before they started. And the place was not that full) 5. Yeah, no disappointment here. :-/ Too bad, because stylists at salons are often very attractive... Will I go back? Probably - the MOST important thing is to get that good cut, and I admit the guy did a good job. *pets head* read more

I really like the haircuts here, and they do solid beard work too. I can only do so much with my beard at home, one a month its nice to have a barber round and style it again. However, going near closing time is a bad idea. I went at 6pm (they close at seven) and was told they only had time for one more, then pointed at the lady waiting. No big deal, I'll come by tomorrow. So I had a beer instead and later walked by - locked up tight at 6:15pm. I'll still come in cause you guys do a fantastic job, but lying to a customer about your working hours is really uncool. My first experience was pretty nice. My second time around I was asked to wait outside so he can finish up with the current customer. After a 15 minute wait, I noticed that things were not finishing up. I finally went in told him that I could not wait any longer. His response was to shrug his shoulders and say "0kay". I've gotten my haircut and beard trimmed by Nate a few times and he's great. I usually just tell him to make me look good and he always does - and his cuts and trims are neat, precise, and clean. Got a great haircut here while visiting from out of town. Was expecting a trendy shop filled with tattoos and handlebar mustaches, but was pleasantly surprised at how unassuming and unpretentious this place is. The barbers here seem skilled and the prices are great compared to upscale salons I've been to. The only downside is you have to wait your turn, which can take a while, but it's a chill atmosphere. There are magazines available, but I recommend bringing something to read. Would definitely come back next time I'm in town. read more

Came here after school with my son after the last place had cut his bangs uneven multiple times and needed a new place. Just read the Yelp reviews and it looked good. As soon as I began to explain what I wanted, which is a very popular cut for young boys these days, short on the sides and longer on the top, she was confused, OK fine. But replied with "like a NAZI haircut." I was absolutely flabbergasted that anyone would think this was an appropriate comment to say about a child's haircut with the child right there. I was so in shock and didn't want to draw attention for my son to catch on to what was said about him so I just had her cut a standard little boy's haircut. It is just hair and it grows back but we won't be back, I think that language to describe anything is sickening. read more

One of the worst haircuts I've ever gotten! Unfriendly staff, I walked in and the two employees working looked pissed they had to end their chit chat to help me. Neither even said hello, I was greeted with "I'm not coming near you until the smell of whatever you just smoked passes" because she saw me puffing on a vape outside. I should've known by the empty seats and the "barbers" several attempts to tell me they're usually "sooooo busy" that this place was a dump! I currently have 3 different fades on my head, 2 on one side and a 3rd on the other. But hey, at least she held it together on one side of my head which in sure is a step in the right direction!! Too top it all off after a night of drinking his depression away the owner enjoys insulting dissatisfied customers via hissy fit.
