I found Charlie yesterday and I am so happy with my cute haircut that only cost me TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS. I asked him to take off 3 inches and he took off 3 inches. I asked him to razor some of the weight off the top and he did it with confidence and skill. It's exactly what I asked for and I'm so relieved to finally have a hair person in Portland. Charlie is the guy. I've been getting my hair cut by Charlie fairly regularly for well over ten years now, and he has always done a fantastic job. He's very personable and has known my hairstyle preferences for quite some time now. Charlie is the kind of guy that really does remember people well and he has just been giving me 'the #4' for years. I always leave his shop looking sharp, feeling happy and my haircut typically looks great for weeks. Getting a haircut from a new person can be a scary experience. We've all had at least one barber's chair in our lives that we regret having sat in, and the trauma of a bad haircut can last a lifetime (okay... maybe that's going a little far)... Very happy with our experience today. My nine-year-old got probably the best cut of his little life for twelve bucks (well, $17 after tip). Charlie had him look at haircut photos in a kids' look book to get a good sense of what he wanted and then made multiple passes with different clipper settings, checking in with my son several times on the length as he worked. He cleaned it up with scissors and a trimmer, giving him nice, sharp edges at his neckline, around his ears, and on his sideburns, where I had initially been worried it would be left scraggly. Even though it felt like he took his time, we were in and out in twenty minutes. Very happy and this will probably be our go-to place for kids' haircuts, as it's a quick five-minute drive from our house, too. read more
