We had the most amazing time and were impressed with the care and the level of detail that we witnessed throughout every aspect of our stay. The breakfasts were incredible and we loved being able to make our own espresso and tea - delicious. Casey and her family went above and beyond throughout our entire experience - we felt very comfortable and welcomed! We hiked the beautiful property and loved visiting the goats since they were so friendly & adorable. The Lincoln Suite provided beautiful, spacious, comfortable luxury accommodations for the 3 of us. We would visit again in a heartbeat! We really appreciated the opportunity to learn more about/personalize early American history by learning about the Mayhurst Estate's origins as James Madison's grand-nephew's estate adjoining Montpelier. If you're thinking about visiting the Mayhurst Estate, we'd highly recommend it and will come back as often as we can. It's a special place; a total oasis from the hectic pressures of everyday life.

We stayed two nights and found it quite relaxing and fun. It's a great jumping off place for exploring wineries, local dining, and historical sites, but equally good as a retreat location. We did a lot of reading on the grounds...hammocks, chairs, and benches abound. Details like coffee and tea anytime, filling and fancy breakfasts with choice ingredients, all homemade, and an abundance of flora and fauna to enjoy made it a bespoke, boutique experience. As we sat listening to the early morning birds from our balcony, identifying all the trees we could spot, my husband said, "Worth every penny!" Agreed.

Make sure you get an email day of with a pin. We stayed in the violetta room. It was nice and we thought the bed and bedding was very comfortable. Parking is not included, so their website is a bit misleading on this. There is street parking that's free but it's 2-3 hours parking. No big deal but definitely misleading information from the hotel. Here's the thing. We would stay here again though. It's more like an airbnb than a hotel. There's no one working at the suites so there's no bells and whistles when it comes to service. But the suites were large, nice, clean and near all the things we wanted to do and see on Davis street. We would make sure we got a room w a steam shower next time (our suite had a nice large bathroom and shower but not a steam shower) and we would absolutely make sure we forced an email w our entrance pin out of them before we arrived.

The steam shower was amazing! Coffee in the room, ice in lobby, comfy bed, great TV channels, large room and large bathroom, and great gas fireplace easy to work. Love the town, boutique shopping, people are so nice, great restaurants, coffee shops and bakery. The staff are so nice and helpful but it is so easy to check in and out they are not needed. Can hardly wait to stay at the 249 again.

The room was a nice size for 2 people and we did not feel cramped in there at all. If I would only figure out the thermostat, I would have been fine but I just turned it off and on when needed. The beds were comfortable and clean. Enough soft pillows that I didn't have to ask for more. Breakfast had a few good options. I did enjoy the sausage gravy and biscuits. Before booking, I specifically asked the reservation agent whether the "suite" was a true suite--defined as having at least two separate rooms--and was assured that it was. Upon arrival, we discovered that the room was simply a larger single room, not a true suite. When we inquired about availability, we were told that the hotel considers larger rooms to be suites. Because we were tired and did not want to search for alternative lodging, we chose to stay. However, we require a separate bedroom so one person can sleep while the other watches television, which only a true suite provides. We are disappointed by the misleading description and believe this practice reflects poorly on the property. As a result, we cannot recommend this hotel and feel it therefore warrants a low rating.

Last week the manager called me…read moreand told me the price increased to $300/nite (up by more than $200/nite) because the time of my stay was now considered a special event weekend (due to the University of Virginia graduation). She offered to cancel my reservation or accept the new nightly fee. I had no choice but to accept the (RIPOFF!!!) new price as it was too late to find other accommodations (they didn't exist for many many miles around, more than 50 miles away). Upon checking in we we immediately greeted by a young woman who was clearly learning how to check people in, and by a female manager on duty. When we settled into the room we asked for two blankets because the air conditioning system was too cold on the floor for us and the beds just had a sheet and decorative cover and no blankets in the room. When we went to the lobby and asked for 2 blankets the manager said she'd only give us one. We reminded her we had two beds not one. She pretended to go to look for 1 more blanket in a store room but returned saying they didn't have any more blankets. The hot water didn't work at all, so no shower or bath possible and there was a spider and numerous ants in the room, at least 3 of which crawled on the me during the night and my clothes (gross but not detrimental). The "free" breakfast was typical garbage low quality hotel food - scrambled eggs from a package, greasy sausage and bacon, pancakes. Not food I'd ever eat. Overall I don't recommend this establishment at all.

After a few turns, we located it across the street from another similar hotel. It was close to, but before, check-in time. We were allowed to proceed up to the room anyway. This is one of the larger Homewood Suites I've stayed at. Most of them seem to be roughly the same size, though layouts differ. This one seemed about 50% bigger than usual. The parking lot was large also. They still had a masks-in-public-spaces policy (maybe due to local / state governments?) but it was only semi-observed. To their credit, breakfast seemed to be back to pre-pandemic normal - it was a buffet with most of what passed for regular items circa early 2020. I'd gotten accustomed to reduced selections over the past 18 months, but it was heartening to see this. We were only there one night, so we only enjoyed breakfast on Wednesday. Check in and check out were handled quickly. We had no issues with the room. Despite being adjacent to the elevator area, the room was quiet. The property was within a 10-minute drive of the University campus also. Restaurants and grocery stores were within walking distance, if needed. I'd gladly stay here again.
