We arrived to our suite after a long travel day and found ourselves locked out of the hotel and our room. We had not been emailed a code to get in. Make sure you get an email day of with a pin. We stayed in the violetta room. It was nice and we thought the bed and bedding was very comfortable. Parking is not included, so their website is a bit misleading on this. There is street parking that's free but it's 2-3 hours parking. No big deal but definitely misleading information from the hotel. Here's the thing. We would stay here again though. It's more like an airbnb than a hotel. There's no one working at the suites so there's no bells and whistles when it comes to service. But the suites were large, nice, clean and near all the things we wanted to do and see on Davis street. We would make sure we got a room w a steam shower next time (our suite had a nice large bathroom and shower but not a steam shower) and we would absolutely make sure we forced an email w our entrance pin out of them before we arrived. read more

Fantastic accommodation! Truly enjoyed an exceptional relaxing stay. If you don't need the elevator, stay upstairs with a balcony. Had wine and cheese while watching the trains go by. The steam shower was amazing! Coffee in the room, ice in lobby, comfy bed, great TV channels, large room and large bathroom, and great gas fireplace easy to work. Love the town, boutique shopping, people are so nice, great restaurants, coffee shops and bakery. The staff are so nice and helpful but it is so easy to check in and out they are not needed. Seriously one of the, if not the best places I have ever stayed at. Room was huge with a balcony, a workin gas fireplace, a shower that 5 heads, and was also a steamer, and big enough for 2 or more people lol. The room was extremely clean which is my number one priority!!! While there is no one on site should you have an issue, the management responded extremely fast, when I reached out. The room came with 6 coffee pods, 2 waters, great TV cable selection...it's a block from a diner, a three minute walk to 2 breweries ( Far Gohn was my favorite for beer, staff and patrons) I can't rave about this place enough!! This is an awesome boutique hotel! For a girlfriend trip, we stayed in the lower level Sole room that had 2 king beds in a very spacious area. This room has its own private parking and back entrance (but also access to the front street entrance). The room was immaculate, beautifully decorated, and had wonderful amenities...Keurig, mini fridge, robes, shampoo, hair dryer, etc. I highly recommend the Suites at 249!! We stayed here the last weekend of 2018 in the terra-cotta room. The room was immaculate and spacious. It had a small balcony and a gas fireplace. The bathroom was very large and had all of the amenities - including a steam shower which was unbelievable! There was a complimentary Keurig in the room and bottles of water, and nice fluffy robes in the closet. For the price (around $250), we really felt it was worth the value as the room felt very high end. The safe in our room didn't work, but we didn't notify the hotel so I won't hold that against them; the staff were very friendly and professional and I'm sure would have helped us if we contacted them. This would become a five star place if there were parking included (you can find parking, but some of it has meter charges) and if they added a continental breakfast. read more

Could not recommend more highly. Stayed two nights in the Terra suite. It was a nicely decorated and spotlessly clean room. The balcony was a great place to have drinks and prople-watch. A couple of notes: first, follow the web site's advice about parking (it's really not a problem); secondly, if your suite is on the second floor, there is no elevator, and the stairs are steep. It also seemed that the entire town of Culpeper was within easy walking distance. read more

Oh my gosh did we luck out? We got to Culpeper after playing dis golf nearby, which was after a long day on the motorcycle. Culpeper sounded like a nice place to stop for the night. We pulled up to the hotel, which looks like a storefront of days gone by. The front door was locked, no one answered our phone call, so we tried the website listed on the front door. Lucked out and we were able to book the Acqua Suite. Door is still locked, so I tried the phone number again. Beth answered (yeah) and gave us key codes for the door and our room. Inside felt very welcoming and smells so good. A great blend of a charming old building with modern amenities; warm and cozy. The room, oh my, the room. Gorgeous! The bed, so comfy. The pillows, perfect. A gas fireplace with a timer-loved it. Cute balcony overlooking a grassy area (enjoyed our coffee there). The bathroom was slick. Shower has body jets and a steamer, I want that at my house. I love that they include dark wash cloths for washing off your makeup; smart, plain and simple. Highly recommended. read more

I beautiful room! We had Acqua suite. First night a little dicey due to a city-wide power failure. Not their fault! We ate on the small balcony under the light of an iPhone! Fantastic shower once we read the instructions (duh). Bed spacious and comfy. We appreciated that no one else seemed to be in the building, including self-serve entry and check in. Great location with walking distance to several restaurants and shops. The train station is across a small yard from this place. We enjoyed the occasional passing train but be forewarned. We felt very pampered and hope to be back. (Hint: weeknights a LOT less expensive than weekends). read more

This hotel is one of my all-time favorites! It's the perfect place for a romantic Valentine's Day weekend away from Washington DC. Beautiful facility with great restaurants in walking distance (Flavor on Main gives a 10% discount for people staying at Suites at 249), and lots of great wineries within a 20-minute drive. I'm very happy with our two-night stay in the Terra Suite at the Suites at 249 and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys modern, quiet boutique hotels in sleepy towns. Our room was big, clean, and stylish. We liked the modern yet cozy decor, comfy bed, his & hers sinks, large shower, fridge, coffee maker, thermostat access, and small balcony overlooking a Virginia "LOVE" sculpture in the park below. Street parking was available for us Sat evening into Sunday, and then we moved our car to the free Amtrak lot a block away. Only cons: the front desk person deleted our access code into the building on the second day because he had his records wrong. Luckily he was there when we realized it, otherwise it would have required a phone call since their staff is not present at all hours. Secondly, while the hotel's brick hallway and hardwood floors are a nice to look at, we recommend that they add a floor runner to help drown out the loud hallway footsteps. Overall, we view these as minor annoyances that do not take away from our pleasant experience and will absolutely stay here again for a fun, relaxing weekend away from DC. read more

What a wonderful luxury in Culpeper... the Suites at 249 is just that and more... it manages to be sophisticated, luxurious, and indulgent while still giving you the warm, welcomed "at home" feeling. To top it off, the design and decor are modern and stylish. My husband and I planned a weekend getaway for my birthday and drove up from Richmond. I think Culpeper is a fantastic weekend destination from DC or Richmond, and if you come you should not miss these Suites. We stayed on the top floor in the Verde suite, which I have declared my home away from home and quite frankly wish I could live in. I love the soft green and neutral hues, the exposed vintage brick of this restored commercial building, and from the tall, original windows I enjoyed the nice views of the activity on Davis Street below. There is even a wrought iron balcony on the side with a table and chairs, overlooking a park and the Culpeper train station. The bathroom is large bordering on huge, with a double sink/vanity, softly enveloping bamboo fiber towels and bathrobes, and a spacious glassed in sauna/steam shower. The bed is a snowy white king-sized retreat and extremely comfortable. When you are not out enjoying the town or the nearby mountains/National Park land, you might just want to relax in the sitting area with the gas fireplace or flatscreen HD TV. If I haven't raved enough about this place, let me just add that world class fine dining, eclectic boutique shopping and casual coffee shops are just steps away from your door. My bride found this property while planning a deferred Valentine's Day weekend, and what a find it is! Located on the second (top) floor of a nineteenth-century retail or warehouse structure right across the street from the Amtrak station, overlooking a small green park, at the end of Culpeper's famed Davis Street, we were well within walking distance of shops, coffee houses, fine-dining restaurants, churches, a brewery, parking, an authentic mid-century downtown dinery for hearty breakfasts, crafters. . . and the list goes on. The Verde room was, unsurprisingly, tastefully decorated in a pale green and was spacious, airy, and well appointed with a fireplace, steam shower, UHD TV, and a private wrought iron balcony overlooking the little park. Our host was invisible until we needed something, when she dropped what she was doing and brought us some small thing we had forgotten. It could not have been nicer; I'm looking forward to making this an annual event! read more

Just a suggestion...if you are going to stay in Culpeper, skip the usual chain hotels, and give the Suites at 249 a try. While it is a bit pricier than most other hotels and the like, it has more charm and comforts to offer. Located right across from the Train station, I found this a warm and inviting little place to stay around the winter time. Each room has a theme, and the one I stayed in was decorated in modern orange hues. There was a flat screen TV above the cozy fireplace. In front of the fireplace sit 2 comfy chairs to relax and warm-up fireside. The bathroom was spacious, and offered all of the amenities you would expect from a fine hotel. They supplied the wonderful Gilchrist and Soames toiletries, and even had 2 bathrobes ready to keep you warm while drying off from the shower. Let's also not forget how comfortable warm the bed was, with the plush mattress, comforter and pillows. I really loved staying at this modern bed and breakfast. I loved the contemporary and minimalistic decor, and found the check-in and check-out to be quick, easy, and painless. You are supplied with a card to let you in and out of the building, so you feel safe knowing that only guests are able to enter the small building. It sits right in the heart of town, and is close to all of the great restaurants and little shops. I will definitely come back to the Suites at 249 if I make any trips to Culpeper in the future. read more

This place was amazing. My boyfriend and I decided to go to Shenandoah National Park for the weekend but instead of camping, we looked into Culpeper - a town just 20 miles away. Very quaint town with a great coffee shop that serves gourmet baked goods and breakfast meals, interesting boutiques, and good restaurants (we ate at Sophie's - delicious). I saw the pictures for the Suites and immediately booked the place. We had the Violetta suite on the ground floor. It was super comfy and had a nice fragrance to it. King size bed with feather bed, luxurious sheets and towels, great water pressure in the shower, flat screen tv and fireplace in the room. I travel a lot and the suites were topnotch. Gilchrist and Soames soaps and shampoos. Also, key-less entry to the suites are very convenient. The suites are located in a convenient location, right on the main town street. The coffee shop is just outside your door. Great coffee. The suites even have larger suites for larger groups. One suite downstairs has 2 king sized beds. Could be great for a family. read more

The iron deck overlooking the rail station is a great place to enjoy a glass of wine. The large steam shower is a great treat. I was so pleased today with my experience at Suites at 249! It is such an honor to have this type of service in my own town! After strolling the streets of Culpeper, our curiosity led us to this unique boutique. The ambience is something to remember, the smell is inviting and the place over all is transcending. You honestly feel as if you stepped foot into a different atmosphere. I appreciated the originality, the cleanliness, the welcoming staff and the unique theme of each room. We were allowed to tour the unoccupied rooms and was completely taken back by the attention to detail. The staff ensured us that cleanliness is of utmost importance and it is their priority to change out each and ever piece of linen that may or not be touched by a guest. The beds were thick, the accent carpet pieces were plush, the hard wood was clean, the windows were fingerprint free, the bathroom was white glove clean!! We toured three different rooms and the basement room was by far the icing on the cake! Two large beds, separated by a wall!!! Yes I said a wall..!!! Perfect for a family with children! The bathroom was huge, the amount of space in it was quite larger than a NYC apartment. Upon entry It truly felt like you stepped foot into your own home. Additionally, it offered a private entrance and its own parking spot! This is a service you would never receive from a Holiday Inn, Marriott or Hampton! Think big and shop small businesses! This is the first boutique hotel I have ever stayed in and I cannot wait to go back for my anniversary! We stayed in the Sienne suite, which is on the ground floor of the hotel. It was decorated very tastefully and classy. The colors are a muted burnt orangey color and very nice. The ceilings are VERY high and gives the impression of a much larger room. The bathroom seemed to be almost the same size of the room! Very large and the shower was gigantic! I also really loved the blinds on the windows. A weird thing to write about, but being on the ground floor, I feel uncomfortable leaving blinds open and people possibly seeing in. The train depot is right across the street and people are coming and going a lot. I liked the blinds because you can actually pull them down so that the light comes in from the top of the window and they are HUGE windows so you get plenty of light this way. I mentioned the train depot being across the street. Even though I am from Culpeper, I didn't know how loud the train may be coming and going several times per day. I barely noticed it. They cannot blow their horn in town limits which is great and the noise of the train rumbling down the tracks is very muted and there is no shaking or vibrations inside the room. If you want a top room, I suggest booking early! I called on Monday to reserve a Friday and Saturday night in the Verde suite (seems to be one of the favorites!) which is on the top floor along with the other larger suites (all suites on the top floor have steam showers I hear and all larger suites upstairs have a balcony.. there is no balcony for the ground floor suites) and ALL ROOMS were booked except for the Sienna. So we'll be calling several weeks ahead next time. As this is an older building, your floor creak quite a bit. I never once heard anyone upstairs walking around and the only time I heard anyone at all was when people were talking in the lobby in the afternoon and when people from the suite next door were walking down the hallway to their suite. Once you arrive, you will be given a code that works for the lobby door and for your suite, which I liked because I didn't have to carry a key. If you're going to arrive late, call ahead because it is NOT STAFFED overnight. The staff will give you your code to get in if you're coming in late. If you need anything while you're there and staff is not there, just simply call the number you called to reserve and someone is on call 24/7. Great hotel, great location, amazing rooms.. Will be back! **EDIT TO ADD** The beds are SO COMFORTABLE between the Italian linen sheets, feather comforter, and feather bed cover.. we plan on calling the establishment to find out the brand of bedding that is used. read more

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic stay here the weekend of October 23, staying two nights in the Acqua Suite. The main room where the bed is located is huge, and the bathroom is long and a nice size. I felt like the room plus bathroom were about as big as my one bedroom condo in Washington, DC! There is also a balcony where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. The rooms also have their own thermostat that you can control; the TV is very generous with the amount of channels it gets; and our room had books and magazines in it for reading. We checked in during the late afternoon on Friday which was a quick process. Parking is available on the street or in the lot across the street - just know that if you park in the lot on a Friday night, you have to move your car before they start setting up in the early morning for the Farmer's Market on Saturday. The hotel is conveniently located in downtown and it is easy to walk to everything right in the immediate area that you might want to do. Despite its proximity to the train station, I didn't hear any train rumblings while in our room. I would highly recommend people to stay in this hotel for a weekend stay in Culpeper! read more

It was clean, stylish, and well appointed. Booking, arrival, and departure were a piece of cake. I especially liked the liberal cancellation/change policy and the free wifi. My only criticism is a taste issue, that the beds are too soft. Also the view to the back alley wasn't the greatest (Violet room). Also it misses the uniqueness of the Thyme Inn. Other reviewers have complained about street noise, not a problem at all for us. The staff was pleasant and accommodating, and the room itself was magnificent. Perhaps our favorite part of the stay was how clean the room was, it never felt grimy or dirty like hotels sometimes do. And as strange as this may sound, the entire hotel had a smell to it that made you feel like you were in a luxurious high rise. Love this place. It's not your typical hotel (no breakfast, fitness center, etc), but that's the charm of it. It's like have your own studio in downtown Culpeper. Parking is a bit tricky, and I wish they had a lot of their own. We stayed a Fri and Sat night, switching from the Verde to the Acqua suites. Verde is right on the Main Street, and you overlook the shops and such. Both rooms have balconies which was nice. Rooms are spacious, super clean, and bathrooms are amazing with double sinks, 5 shower heads and a steamer in the shower. We barely even left the room the 2nd night it was so comfortable. Staff was great. Only downside was the parking. Had to move my car every 2 hours up until 6. Sunday I didn't have to move the car. There is a free lot a few blocks away so that is always an option. Farmers market on Saturday was near. Brew Pub right around the corner as well. Great location. Definitely recommend and will try to come back! read more

My wife and I LOVE Suites at 249. We have been doing overnights at 249 since 2009 when we started looking for a home in the Culpeper County area (we were living in DC at the time). We have since moved to Amissville (2012) and love to continue our tradition of staying here overnight for birthday and other celebrations. Stunning, immaculate, high end suites with beautiful decor, cozy feels, and incredible bathrooms. Our favorite suite is Verde for its size, fireplace, balcony, tons of windows, HUGE bathroom, steam shower with 4 extra shower heads on the wall, etc. Suites at 249 is very, very well done. My boyfriend and I stayed in the Verde suite this past weekend and didn't want to leave! The room is quite large with tons of natural light and a private balcony. The steam shower alone is enough reason to come back - it was like having a personal spa! I liked staying at the front of the hotel for the people watching and it was nice to see all the holiday decorations at Xmas time as it got dark. There is a fireplace that works with a remote control and a nice sized TV if the weather isn't agreeable. We paired our trip with a weekend of touring vineyards - we visited 12 in the 3 days we were in the area all of which were a close driving distance from the town. By the end of the weekend my boyfriend and I were coming up with a list of things we didn't get to or places we'd go to again just so we could come back to the Suites at 249 in the next few weeks. I was passing through Culpeper on business and decided to stay here rather than the standard Holiday Inn or Best Western. It's a pleasant looking boutique hotel right near Main St. but I was not expecting the inside to be so nice. I stayed in the Acqua suite, which was a huge room with a king size bed, wooden floors, free WiFi, fireplace and steam shower. The whole place felt like a home rather than a hotel and the price was also very good. It's also within a five minute walk of the best restaurants in town. I will stay here again. read more
