Especially when general admission is free for kids under 14. When we asked why it was full price for her- and not maybe half price ($15) we were met with a rude attitude from the woman in the booth. We ended up paying to stay since we drove all that way but we won't be back and we will be sure to forward the info on to all our racer friends and fans.

Everyone was a little weary about it as it added some time to our trip, but after everyone was happy we did it and it became a conversation topic for the weekend! We called on our way (be sure to pay attention to the time change if you're doing in a day) and Mike didn't seem like he wanted to chat, but we let him know about when we were going to be there and when we arrived, he was ready for us. He went through the story, getting into the world record book, then we picked out our color and got to painting. As we painted we chatted more and he told us some stories of all the different types of people that have visited, weird and unique paint jobs, and more. I am assuming he gets paint donated or he has paint that has been around a while, because it did have a unpleasant smell so we rolled quickly. Don't be too worried about getting it on your clothes unless you are reckless, there are long handles on the rollers, the most you'll get is on the bottom of your shoe. Its awesome you get to be a small part of a world record and worth the detour if you're in the area. He does accept donations through cash, venmo, or credit card. I recommend a stop!

Arriving during business hours, I was able to meet up with the painter himself, ask Mike some questions, see the wet paint and understand a bit about this pretty awesome piece of Americana. It is a bit out of the way but worth it. The Ball of Paint is free to visit and they do accept donations. You can also contribute to the paint ball. The first floor has Cole Porter's…read morelast car - a 1950-something restored Cadillac in beautiful condition, a piano Cole Porter played, some furniture from his Paris apartment, and some other Cole Porter ephemera. The detailed explanation of the car's history is interesting. I would love to know how the furniture made its way from Paris back to Indiana and to the museum. The second floor is a "Main Street USA" mock up of businesses that used to exist in Peru, but with much smaller footprints. Perhaps nostalgic if you grew up here, but seeing old glass pharmacy bottles didn't interest me much. The exhibits looked like they were from an earlier time. Several of the second floor exhibits from pioneer days seemed to be missing items and the objects behind the glass did not match the printed descriptions of what was supposed to be in there. The third floor is circus related things that are calling out to be better displayed and described. One elephant skull was accompanied by a fascinating explanation. I was left guessing as to the background and significance as to most of the rest of the third floor items. The gift shop has some merchandise that has no apparent connection to Peru or to history. Not sure how it ended up there. There was only one employee present on my three visits and he staffed the front desk. One one day he was asleep at the desk (really, sound asleep). On the two other days, he was watching cartoons (sorry - anime) on a laptop computer. If he needs something to do, he could dust the exhibits on the first floor while keeping an eye on people entering.

The Miami County Historical Society has turned the historic former Senger Dry Goods building into a…read morelocal history museum. The area is rich in history, most notably the birthplace of Cole Porter and the winter home to a number of circuses in the early 1900's. The first floor of the three story museum holds furniture and a Cadillac once owned by Porter. Local artifacts, Mastodon fossil bones, and other area antiques are also on display. Mock local storefronts on the second floor hold local items and tell the story of early life in Peru. The museum has done a remarkable job of preserving historical items and telling their stories. Circus memorabilia is arranged on the third floor with stories about the various troops, people and animals. I liked the use of the former department store to hold local history. The walls seemed to welcome visitors and tell stories. The Museum requests a $5 donation but changes no admission fee. The clerk is friendly and describes the contents. A small gift shop is available near the entrance. An elevator is available to move from floor to floor. Plan 2 hours for a visit. The museum is a must visit for those interested in local history.
