The clerk never even looked at me or spoke to me and when she handed me my receipt and I said thank you, she didn't even respond. My family & I have shopped at Rouses since you took over the store on Belle Chasse Highway from Albertsons (I believe that it was an Albertsons) and I have never been treated as horribly as I was by the woman at the customer service desk Wednesday, 31JAN24, at the Algiers Store. I was in line to ask for a rain check for the 'On Sale' Rouses brand high pulp orange juice. When I got to the front of the line the woman was ugly from the get-go. Her facial expression & tone of voice was one of disdain. All I could think of was, "What had I done?" When I asked for a rain check I told her that there was one container of No Pulp but there was no High Pulp. She said that I would have to buy the No Pulp. I told her that I did not want the No Pulp, that I wanted the High Pulp. Her level of contempt was increasing as I did not instantly just submit to her will and buy what I did not want. She called someone to check on what was available. This took several minutes so I asked to pay for the other items I had already picked up so the line could flow until the young man could check what was in the back. He said something to the effect that there was No Pulp but he was not sure about anything else. Looking down her nose at me and with a haughty tone of voice she again said that I would just have to take what was available. Another customer walked up to the customer service area to complain about one of the cashiers that had overcharged her for an item and told the CS woman that she was just going to take another of the items to make up for the overcharge. The CS woman let her cut the line to rectify her issue. I did not believe letting her cut the line and just take another of the items was the right thing to do but I am not her boss. Eventually I got the Rouses High Pulp orange juice. Since I had already waited in line for the orange juice once I asked if she check me out again. She hatefully said it would not be fair to let me cut the line. (But it was okay to let the other woman cut the line!) When I got to the front of the line, again, I told her conduct & attitude was objectionable. She was totally incensed and started yelling. I told a supervisor and left. She knew what she was doing. When the manager came by, she was all friendly until he left. This entire ordeal went on for many minutes and I am giving you the shortened version. She should not be in a position where she deals with the public. It will not be fair to your customers to be subjected to this conduct. read more

As everyone knows each Rouses is different. While this is not the biggest, it's pretty darn close to a mini epicurean one. Pleasantly surprised by their fish and cheese selections. The bakery as a group of talent working in that kitchen, the case is chock full of mouth watering deliciousness. Always out of things. I have had to return many items because of spoilage or mold. Sometimes several times in one week. Algiers residents deserve better. Other Rouses--even just a mile away on Belle Chase Hwy--are much nicer, cleaner and better stocked. For boiled crawfish only: 5/3 at 6 pm Absolutely awesome! The crawfish were hot and a good size. The price was fantastic and the crawfish were flavorful. We purchased potatoes and sausage to accompany our meal. The crawfish were self-service with plastic and paper bags, so we appreciate those in front of us not cleaning out the entire cooler. She didn't even attempt to make it look decent. This is terrible work... she knew it was terrible when she was writing it but her response was "oh, I got this" ummm , no hun, you don't "got this". Visiting from out of town and my local NO friend took me here for crawfish!!! We waited about an hour for them but it was well worth the wait!!! They were seasoned to perfection! We also picked up some corn, sausage, & potatoes. Unfortunately, they weren't seasoned in the same boil though. There was alone of about 20 people deep trying to get to the crawfish. Dang Algiers Rouses, you fancy! This Rouses feels a lot like the Rouses on Tchoupitoulas: a bit upscale and sophisticated with a lot to offer. Also, being in this Rouses makes me realize how much the one on Belle Chasse Highway needs an update. I don't even know if the one on Belle Chasse Highway can even be called a real Rouses because it lacks a lot of cool things that other Rouses have. Anyway, Algiers Rouses has it all: a neat salad bar, an impressive seafood selection, sushi, a hot bar and a decent beer selection- all of my "go tos". Everything is organized nicely and the staff is really friendly and greeted me as soon as I walked in. I like that they had multiple registers open, even though the place wasn't super busy, so I was in and out in no time. I might start going to this Rouses more often, mainly because it's nicer and it seems to have more of the "good stuff". read more

I was here earlier tonight just before 8:00pm. Went to the Deli to buy 1/2 pound of corned beef sliced. Service was poor! The lady who finally agreed to serve me had a bad cold and proceeded to cough, and sneeze into her hands! I kindly asked her to please re-wash her hands before slicing my meat. She said"I have on fresh gloves, I don't care if you have on fresh condom! PLEASE WASH YOUR HANDS! The sever NEVER did! I took the cut meat and recorded a video using my I-Phone. Went to customer service demanding to speak to a store manager. The store manager addressed my concerns. Meh. The produce isn't great, but if I have to swing in to get the basics, they are always stocked up. I used to LOVE this store. They had a sweet organic/natural section right by the produce aisle- so I could skip most of the store and just hit up that section. However, I went in Monday and discovered that the section was gone. I asked an employee if it had moved, since I was pressed for time (HUNGRY!!) and didn't want to search aisle by aisle. It's a small Rouses, but since we only have 2 on the westbank, I tend to go here every once in a while. They have a decent produce section, deli, seafood, meat, bakery, and a surprisingly large selection of alcohol. Everything that I need is usually in-stock. There isn't a whole lot of traffic in this area, so the checkout lines are never long. It's a very quick and easy "in and out" trip to the grocery store. read more

So I stopped in here to grab a quick bite to eat in the midst of a busy work day, and I am now thoroughly impressed. I grabbed a pack of summer rolls from the guys making sushi, and chatted with them for a second. Very professional, and very kind they were. As I checked out the cashier was the same. We chatted for a second as I was paying for my lunch. The summer rolls were probably the best I've ever had, and they were 7.49 for a pack of four! You cannot beat that. I get my pantry items from Winn-Dixie, but I come here for fresh meat, seafood, produce, and forgotten items (there's rarely ever a line). There are one or two employees who keep carts out of the parking lot, which is always clean. There's a security guard or police officer at the door to greet customers. The staff is friendly and if you have a question they will either drop what they are doing to help you find what you are looking for OR they will find someone who will. This is super helpful if you're like me and trying new recipes, but have never had to buy yeast/baking powder/corn starch before and are thus clueless regarding what it looks like or where you might find it. They keep the most popular beers and wines refrigerated and have a pretty decent variety of hard liquors. My only complaint about the alcohol would be that the liquor is kept behind a counter at the entrance and the beer and wine are on the other side of the store. There's a decent organic aisle in the frozen food area (including frozen Ezekiel bread!!), but the prices are a bit ridiculous. read more

Since the remodeling I am greatly enjoying my shopping experience at my neighborhood Rouses Market. The grocery selections are of better quality and variety. The fresh made panini sandwiches are delicious! And the seafood selections are very fresh. My only reservation is the lack of freshly made pizzas. I have had the pizza-by-the-slice at the Baronne St store in the Warehouse Dist. and the pizza is delicious! I wish I could have that at my local store. read more

A grocery store is a grocery store, however they were open on New Year's Day, and it was raining, when Trevor asked to take my cart, so I wouldn't have to bring it back in the cold and rain. If this weren't enough, I tried to return a Redbox movie at 10 after 10 and he allowed me to run in at the last moment even when they were closing! This is customer service at its finest and Trevor deserves the acknowledgement of the fine employee that he is, so I write this review on his behalf. Rouse's is a locally owned store chain that in turn sells many other local products. The store is always clean and cashiers will quickly open registers if people are waiting. When I shop at Rouse's I know I'll find a better selection of produce than at our national chains. The prices are competitive and workers also seem to be happier. read more

I've lived in Algiers for about 12 years. I've seen a few businesses come and go, but Rouses Market is undoubtedly the best commercial addition to this community. It is as if I've shopped there all my life. Like the little neighborhood groceries in the fifties and sixties, the manager and many of the staff members seem to know my name. They are always friendly and helpful. But Rouses Market is far from the neighborhood grocery stores I visited with my parents as a skinny little boy. The corner stores were very limited in their offerings. I've found that Rouses' beef, seafood, produce, wines and spirits are simply peerless. For example, Rouses carries Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon and Jordan Chardonnay - wines that are only available at a few of the city's finest restaurants. Further, they often carry fresh scallops, flounder, lobster tails and prawns along with the traditional fare of delicious oysters, soft shell crabs, cat fish and shrimp. Since the market was renovated, it routinely carries Flintstone-sized, remarkably marbled rib eye steaks and an outstanding selection of filet mignons. There are simply not enough superlatives for this gem of a supermarket. If you enjoy a great meal as I do, and you live in Algiers, you'd be wise to buy the ingredients for your meal at Rouses, and, of course, don't forget the wine. Bravo Rouses Market! read more
