I frequently shop at most of these stores and I can honestly say that some of them are consistently unwelcoming. Most departments don't speak but they're always freshly stocked. The overall customer service here is unpredictable and everyone is immersed with work that they don't stop to ask if they can help, even after being in their dept. for a while....produce and bakery. I came here for the whole Strawberry Grouper priced @ $7.99 per lb., not bad but the fillet cut was $21.99 per lb. and not worth it to me. I can fillet my own fish. So I opted for the large Black Tip Shark fillet @ $4.99 per lb. - first time trying. The liquor department folks are happier and for good reason I suppose lol but it's like each store has its own personality based on its location; this location is just dismal to me but always stocked and neat. Oh and Krispy Kreme donuts are here! That's where the 3rd star come in. The buggy boys at the Algiers' store is friendly as well as most cashiers but again, floor staff are not helpful. The Stumpf, CBD and Airline stores are pretty hip and vibrant and has more people engagement skills than this one. The CBD Rouses is by far the absolute best and kind of reminds me of Whole Foods but the traffic...ugh! read more

The store is clean and better stocked than Walmart. Personnel in the departments are about as friendly as a rattlesnake! Some are on their cell phone and others give the impression they don't want to be bothered. The cashiers have no personality! No welcome to Rouse's or thank you for shopping with Rouse's. If I wanted to be treated like a piece of gum on the bottom of a shoe, I can go to Walmart where their personnel have the same outlook on working as the Rouse's personnel. I can use the self checkout and bag my own own groceries and not have smashed bread because the cashier put cans on top of the bread. Then again it depends on where you go to grocery shop. read more

I usually love this store ! Almost always a one stop shop until this most recent time . I called and asked them to hold a gentilly berry cake for my mothers birthday and she loved the one from the recently closed down parrot Pete's , but upon cutting into the cake we were very disappointed. I love this store because there aren't a lot of places to get an assorted choice of cheeses or beer on the Westbank and this Rouse's has a wide selection of both. First of all, the cheese case is a thing of beauty. This ain't your mama's cheese case! They have so many different assorted and exotic types of cheeses. When you go here you better be prepared to take your time and come with some willpower, because whenever I go, it's all I can do to keep from filling my basket with different assortments of brie, gouda and munster. Seriously. If you can't get to a proper cheese shop, the Rouse's cheese case will hold you. Also, their beer selection is awesome. They have big bottles of Rogue, Magic Hat #9 and Runination ale. If you are in the mood to try something really different, they have something called "Vampire Blood". I've never tried it. It's a pale ale. I don't know. Rouse's also makes sushi rolls in store, which really aren't that bad. They are made fresh daily, and while they aren't as good at something you would get at a legitimate sushi restaurant, it gets the job done if you want to pick something up for a quick lunch. read more

This is my favorite grocery store on the westbank. I only wish they had one in Marrero. The main thing I come here for is beer. Keg beer to be exact. Many people don't know this but they can order you almost any kind of keg beer available. The only stipulation is if it is available on tap. So if you like Sessions beer and have had it at a bar, but it was in bottle only, well Rouses wont be able to get it either. If you had a Southern Pecan on tap at the Rusty Nail, then yes, Rouses can get it. I'll outline the most successful ordering procedure for keg beer. I wouldn't suggest calling. Best is in person. Walk to the customer service counter, also the liquor section. Tell them you want to order a keg. They can show you a list of available beers along with prices and the keg size. They can also rent you a tap if you don't have one. If your using a kegerator like I have, that isn't needed. If you haven't ordered from them before, you will have to place a refundable $50 deposit for the keg shell. The beer prices vary. For example , A 1/6 size keg (5.5 gallons) of Blue Moon is $75. A 1/2 keg (15.5 gallons) is $130. It will take roughly about 4 days to come in. When it does, they usually call you to let you know. If they haven't, you will have to call and double check. A second way to order, but only works if you know for sure what beer and your not worried about the price because you already know is to email the store director or liquor manager for this store (#38) I believe the names are Jeffery or Seth. If you try and do a bunch of back and forth emails though, it does take them some time to reply, so I advice going in person till you get the hang of it. I'm sure other Rouses offer this service, but this is my store of choice. read more

Today I got off work and went to get a couple tv dinners after paying for them the security guard, the manger and one other person was standing at the door I walked out with receipt in hand and the fat little guard called me back so I went he accused me of having something in my paint legs that my pants were baggy I said yes it's my cell phone and I pulled it out. He said no it looks like there's more I told him then check or call police officer, the manager there, and let him antagonize me, so I pulled out my phone told the manager I said look, I don't need to steal anything. Let me show you how much I have he would not take a look. I will not shop in the store or they use you stealing stuff and it's kind of funny that it was three black guys the security guard, the manager, and one other all teaming up on one white guy and then they say that there is no racism. I actually rather like this Rouses. It's usually clean, (one time it had a really bad smell, but only 1 time). It's got a decent selection and I like how they are set-up...all but the liquor department. The Tchoup location is the only one where I really like the liquor selection. Not being a booze expert, I want to actually read the bottles before getting something. Since this location is outside NOLA, the tax is a bit lower and it's close to Hong Kong market and La Morenita so I can get my veggies and minced meats (under 2 bucks a pound) at Hong Kong, my chicharrones, Mexican staples and chicken (GIANT chicken breasts for cheap) from La Morenita, and other general things from this Rouses. This is, really, the only nice grocery store that we have on the Westbank. In fact, they just had a mini-makeover and made it even better. I like the new layout. The new produce section seems to have a bigger selection and there is now a huge bulk food area. Oh, and an upgraded cheese/deli section too. I'm a fan! They do crawfish boils on the weekend, so my hubby can have his crawfish fix when the mood strikes. Although the Rouses on Baronne is my favorite location this one comes in a very close 2nd. It has everything. 1st off.....awesome,awesome, awesome wine selection. The hot food always comes in handy when I don't bring my lunch. You can visit the bakery and get cake by the slice and those mini cupcakes can get you in so much trouble. Salad bar is always fresh and full of so many toppings...several soups of the day (crawfish and corn is my favorite...and they have it EVERY Tuesday). Produce section always has fresh veggies that are in season. Oh, and the kicker...they boil some of the best crawfish! I have made it a vow to never return to this Rouse's. After moving to new Orleans two years ago, I shopped predominately at this Rouse's for my whole first year here, due to it's friendly staff and convenient location. However, I consistently unknowingly purchased expired dairy items (yogurt, milk, cottage cheese, etc) and other grocery items (crackers, flaxseed, etc.). I also noticed and had to consistently look over boxed and canned items to make sure they weren't damaged. This store keeps an unimaginable amount of damaged boxed items (cereal, soda) stocked on their shelves. After I continually purchased expired items and had to make it a point look over items to make sure they weren't damaged/expired, I called the manager. He blamed the damaged boxed and canned items on the customers and said that "customers are the ones that put damaged goods back on the shelves". I thought that shelf stockers were the ones that were suppose to remove damaged items items from the shelves? Or perhaps the manager doesn't lead his/her employees to do so in hopes that customers would unknowingly purchase said damaged items. I also told the manager about all of the expired items I had purchased at his store, and he said he would talk to his employees "again" about looking over expired store labels. I continued to shop at this store for a couple of more months after I spoke with the manager in hopes that the store would take a turn for the better. I finally had it when I purchased ham a few days before Christmas only to discover on Christmas eve that it was indeed, expired. I went to the store to return it, but they had already closed for the holiday. I haven't returned to the store since. The prices at Rouses are higher than most grocery stores in New Orleans . They should do a better job at keeping fresh food and undamaged items on their shelves. I've lived on the east coast, west coast, and the north and have never seen a store run as terribly as this one. Completely unacceptable and this store is completely avoidable. read more

As a former exclusive Rouses shopper I am pretty much done with this place until they clean up. In less than a two month period I have now purchased three items that were already expired from this store. Milk that had some kind of chunky "goop" inside of it, a turkey dinner that had mold all around the side of it when my husband opened it up at work, and now Annie's organic ravioli that is past it's date. All of these items were opened up in our home within a week of purchase, so they didn't expire just by sitting around in the fridge or pantry. During my last trip (when I bought the expired ravioli) I also attempted to purchase baby yogurt but did in fact check that date before putting it in the cart. Expired. Gretna Rouses needs to get a better grip on quality control. I mean, I know the dates are printed right there on the food for me to see (even though the milk and turkey dinner were not even past their date), but I shouldn't have to check every item. If it's on the shelf I should be able to safely assume that most of it is safe to eat. Since Whole Foods is too far away I guess I'm stuck with Winn Dixie. This is really disappointing. read more

I've only been here a hand full of times, but it's about as good as any other Rouses. They have a lot of fresh flowers to choose from that you can get for your significant other, or friend having a bad day. There is a lot....and I mean a lot of alcohol to choose from. I'm not big on wine, but I found one with Harry Potter on it playing Quidditch. It taste awful, but it's Harry freaking Potter! If you like a wide variety of alcohol to choose from, check out Rouses. If you like fresh seafood for lunch, check this place out. If you like fresh seafood with a bit of (insert alcohol here) on the side, check this place out. read more

I like the makeover and the new health food section. It is easier to find low-cal and gluten free items now--and these items are at a cheaper price than you would pay at Whole Foods. The selection is not extensive, but worth your inspection if you are on a special diet. read more

I really loved visiting this store. I was able to find tons of seasonings, mixes, and wines exclusive to this area that I won't find in Texas. This store is very well laid out and clean. It was a major step up from what they have in Texas, HEB, and most importantly their produce was super fresh! If I lived in this area this would be my go to store. read more

WATCH OUT FOR OVERCHARGES AT CHECKOUT!!! ~ I shopped at the Rouses #38 at Belle Chasse Highway & Behrman Highway in Terrytown, Wednesday 23JAN19. I don't know her name but the receipt shows the cashier was 'Daria'. She was unfriendly, dishonest, and downright ugly. I live near this Rouses and shop there often. I had never seen her before. This Rouses has some nice, good employees but this woman is NOT one of those. One of the items I purchased was yellow onions. I picked out some of the 'Medium Yellow Onions' advertised at $0.49/pound because the 'Sweet Yellow Onions' (Which LOOK like Vidalia onions) were advertised at $1.49/pound. I try to watch what rings up at the cash register because over rings, in numbers, poundage, and price, happens too frequently at this Rouses. Sure enough, the cashier rang up my onions as sweet yellow onions at $1.49/#. I told her that they should have rung up as $0.49/#. She just looked up at the register display and said that $1.49/# was the correct price (Trying to bluff me). I explained the difference between the two types of onions, in size, shape, and the sticker on the sweet onions. I told her that the advertised price at the onion display was $0.49. She said, without checking anything, "That doesn't start until tomorrow." (Again, to bluff me with a made up story) I told her that was not correct, that the advertised price at the onion bin AND in the sales flyer that expired the day I was there was $0.49/#. She was getting angrier and angrier every second. She snatched the sales flyer out of my hand pointed at the 'Four Day Sale' and said that price had expired. (Another bluff/made up story to get me to just go away) I explained that the onions were NOT part of the four day sale, that they were part of the eight day sale, which would expire at the end of the day. She is livid at this point. She tore through the flyer to the ad, pointed at the white onions in the picture and said that my onions didn't look like the white onions in the picture. I pointed at the written part of the ad and explained that the ad reads, 'White or Yellow Onions', and pointed at the yellow onions in the picture and said that, "My onions like these onions." If looks could kill I'd be dead. She tried five different times to bluff/make up a story to get me to pay the overcharge. Yes, above I only related four of the five attempts but I cannot now remember the fifth. BUT I did count five when I was there. In any case I am just telling you about one of the employees. Use the information as you see fit. However, most people do not want to go to a business that has mean, dishonest people working there. read more

Stopped here for some crawfish. They cook their crawfish boil outside the place by the patio area. Crawfish were 2.50/lb. Cannot beat that price for fresh live crawfish. All around favorite grocery store!!!! Let me start by saying that they are never crowded, reasonably priced, freshest produce, locally owned, huge wine selection, and friendly staff. But that's not what really won me over. After a LONG day I left Rouses and loaded my 4 month old into the car, and closed the door. As I go to get in myself I realize I have locked my baby inside the car with the keys on a HOT summer day and the car is not running. Of course I was horrified. Within minutes I discover that the manager of the store is also a volunteer fireman and has the equipment to safely open the door in his truck just in case a situation like this should ever arise. He along with 10 or so other Rouses employees waited outside with me and comforted me, tirelessly trying to get the door open until POP-A-Lock showed up. Although the store manager was never able to open the door I will always remember how nice he was and that is the only grocery store I will shop at in the Gretna area! read more

The staff member that took my order was professional, polite, and helpful. She didn't even hesitate to take an order that was needed in just three days. This is the worse Rouse's in the city. I come here because it was close to my work, but yesterday will be my last time. This store was filthy and disgusting before their remodel. Now it is cleaner, but their items are not always fresh, especially the produce and the specialty cheeses. I have purchased expensive cheese here that has been mislabeled and mispriced. I imagine this is from unwrapping and repackaging them so much in order to extend the "sell by" date. Many times I have gotten home with a $9 of rotten cheese. The one thing that always brought me back for my small after work grocery runs were the polite, if unknowledgable, staff. That changed yesterday. Their were two gentlemen working the fish counter, one had no idea what he was talking about and the other was rude. I asked the first man for 2 swai fillet, nope, I pronounced it differently, nope, I spelled it, twice, nope. Seriously?? I then pointed to an unlabeled piece of fish and said "I think that's it." He wrapped up my fillets and passed them to me. It was the wrong fish. The other man, who was listening the entire time yelled "That's what you pointed to!" Perhaps, but after you listened to me ask for and spell the name of ANOTHER FISH! Misunderstandings happen, but this man was rude and aggressive. Love Rouses! My favorite Grocery Store. It is so nice, clean, wide & spaced out. When I am going in there I way over shop, because they have so many imported items. Fantastic variety of cheese, wines, teas, spices & unusual products. . The meat is great! The Bakery is my down fall. Every time I am in there I have to buy something sweet for myself. If you like to eat this is the place to shop. It also is upscale which I like very much. You may have to spend a lil more on some things, but it is worth it. I buy every year since the store opened, bought all my Thanksgiving, Christmas, & Birthday cakes & pies from this location. Always fresh. Love the workers & help, you can always find someone to aid you in your quest. Love to walk in & see all the flowers & plants that greet you. I have purchased my orchids there. They are doing fine, growing & producing new growth. This is your one stop shopping. Always has someone in the wine department to help get that special bottle of wine. Great lay out too. read more
