Rouses on Freret is a small but super convenient neighborhood grocery store especially if you're staying nearby like we were. The store was clean, organized, and surprisingly well‑stocked for its size. It's great for grabbing essentials without having to trek across town. Parking is tiny, but that's pretty normal for the area, and honestly the location made up for it since it was right next to our Airbnb. I also appreciated that they had security on site, which made the whole experience feel safer and more comfortable. Where things went downhill was with the checker named Sebastian. His attitude was unnecessarily rude, and it really stood out compared to the otherwise positive experience. Everything else about the store gets five stars, but the interaction at checkout definitely took away from the visit. read more

Rouses on Freret has become my go to for groceries and home essentials due to its closeness to my house. The store is about half the size of Tchoupitoulas location but has everything you need from eggs, juice, bread, fruits, etc. What I like most about this location is the small cafe serving light bites, coffee, wine/cocktails. Shopping while sipping is definitely my style. You can get in and out fairly quickly, the staff is always helpful and not hard to find when needed. But I really dislike the small parking garage. I usually have to park on the street, and the baskets have anti theft locks installed, making it very inconvenient to carry groceries to my car. read more

Do NOT waste your time here if you're actually trying to shop your grocery list for the week. Not a normal rouses at all. Trying to be fancy like Whole Foods with all of the space of this tiny place wasted on hot bar etc. Especially if you have kids, there is one tiny end cap of baby food/snacks and nothing more. Don't even think of stopping here for formula or diapers. Place was clean and staff was friendly and courteous but otherwise a waste of time for actual grocery shopping. read more

Local neighborhood grocery store with a fair selection of prepared foods. It's a decent size for being a neighborhood market, just don't expect a large chain where you can find all your grocery needs. Aisles were clean, well stocked and organized. For what we needed it was more than sufficient. Downside was the guy at the checkout counter was rather unfriendly. Never once made eye contact or said a single word to us. He checked us out and handed us a receipt without ever looking up. He definitely didn't want to be there. The other employee seemed nice and was chatting with the customer next to us. I don't need a conversation, a simple greeting or any kind of acknowledgment would suffice. Who knows maybe he was just having a bad day. ‍ I would have given a better rating if we hadn't felt so unwelcome. read more

I was at this Rouses location waiting in line at checkout when our cashier, Hyvier is what was on his name tag, said the F slur-followed by the A word-fairly loud in front of my child to another cashier (and I'm pretty sure it was about another customer I saw in line much ahead of me). I could not make out the other name tag. He said it with such disdain in his voice, and it made me very uncomfortable. I was going to move on from it, but my young child who was with me and heard him say everything, has been repeating that word all afternoon. I have tried getting them to stop, but unfortunately, they are so young that they can't quite understand why and are now saying it randomly at times for a reaction. I'm tired. I'm just writing this review in case anyone else thinks about bringing their kids to this location. Just don't. Mothers and fathers shouldn't have to deal with these kinds of situations. Amazing grocery store with so many grab and go meal and bakery options. You walk in unassuming, but then there's so much here...prim rib roasts dry aging on display, an array of prepped sandwiches and sides and a huge refrigerator case of salads, sides, meals - wow. Cajun spiced carrots were delicious, fresh sliced pineapple, watermelon strawberries were fresh ripe and delicious! Had to buy some of their specialty chocolate bars yum, got a few pounds of the freshly roasted coffee beans. Go to the back of this grocery store and find a full on bar- so cool!!! Rouses on Freret is open, this is not a huge grocery store, but it has enough of everything for last minute grocery needs. Not a lot of parking, but this location is super convenient if you live and work in the area. This is a great addition to the neighborhood with its deli, the hot food and salad bars, wine selection along with an little restaurant / cafe with a bar and outdoor seating. If you need a few grocery items or want a pick up something from the deli I recommend this Rouses. read more

As many times as I went to the old thrift store in this spot, I can't believe how much stuff is crammed into the new Rouses. To be clear, this is not a full grocery but it is a great spot to pick up a couple of essentials or some party food... which is what I did. Prepared foods are definitely the focus. I had some family come town and we had a last minute cookout and I was in charge of apps. Stopping in the new Rouses was perfect, I picked up deviled eggs and chips, salsa & guac and crawfish pies. And of course beer and cookies. Since it was the first weekend open, they were more than fully staffed and there were tons of staff around greeting customers and offering assistance. The parking lot was turning over pretty quick but it is small. So don't be surprised if you can't find a spot. There's a covered outdoor area if you're grabbing a quick lunch. Only about 25% of the staff is masked and probably the same for the patrons going in. read more

Yes! It's a grocery store easy to navigate their spotless aisles. Back there you'll also find a sophisticated restaurant/bar incuding a fancy vegan menu. The place looked spotless. We tried the cold soup, the vegi-burger, the Tempeh sandwich and it was delicious. Most important! They use a separate grill to prepare the vegan/vegetarian meals. Attention to detail? You got it! Very courteous employees. For the carnivores, there is plenty to choose from. The people seating next to us seemed happy. You can tell someone brilliant is putting all this together. read more

Nice Rouses, they made it feel incredibly roomy inside. My favorite part was the freshly prepared food. They have a ramen bar, salad bar, paninis, gumbo, sushi, poke bowls, and a lot more. It's nice to have a quick lunch option like this place. I didn't even get a chance to eat at their attached cafe. The parking lot is super tiny though, so you'll likely have to hunt for street parking. read more

This is new Rouses location on Freret Street. Marc Ardoin (a little biased we went to high school together) and his team are fantastic and eager to help you navigate the new store. While this is a smaller location than most Rouses stores, it is super nice and has a great cafe/ coffee bar. read more

I was so excited to learn of a Rouses in the neighborhood. However, it has only intensified the traffic, noise and foot traffic in the area. It is not a place to drive and park. It is more like a walk or bike up and grab an item or two. Definitely not for all of your grocery needs. It is what it is....a neighborhood grab an item or two and go. I feel as if this store caters to the young, single or couples that really do not have time to cook. Most of the food is prepared already. However, if I ever just need one or two items, I will walk on over. Why 3 stars? Parking, all the prepared foods, congestion in the store. read more
