Route 37 Watersports is easy to get to, but difficult to find. It's located next to the end of the bridge on the Tom's River side (opposite Seaside). Your GPS will take you to the area and you'll see a restaurant, motel, lodgings, drive on circles... And probably stop to call for guidance. The office is the small blue building seen in my picture. There are really no signs anywhere. Plenty of parking though. I rented a Carolina Skiff, which is a 16' boat, ideal for crabbing or simple fishing in the area. It's a great value at $160 for 4 hours. Just realize that this won't be luxurious. It's more functional. The staff were helpful in getting us going. I have a boating license so we signed a couple papers and were on the water in no time. The skiff was supposed to have a bimini top, but it didn't. The guy who helped see us off told us it was ripped and they had no others. That was a disappointment as we'd bake under the sun without it. Anyway, we lasted a few hours on the water and the girl working in the office provided me with a partial refund to account for the missing Bimini. That earned them 5 stars here. You are required to keep the boat nearby and that's a challenge for fishing as the bay is quite shallow almost everywhere, except in the channel... And we can't parking a boat of this size in the middle of the channel. If you really wanna go out fishing, I suggest a charter boat. This skiff though would be great for a crabbing adventure. read more

Route 37 watersports is the Jersey shore's #1 spot to rent pontoons, jet skis, and boats! We experienced the 8-hour pontoon boat rental. This was absolutely worth going for the full day. We had the best time ever! The crew was so friendly and helpful. Everything was explained to us on how to operate the pontoon prior to jetting off. We felt very safe and secure after the instructions. They helped us load our items on and off the boat and even took a golf cart to drive our heavy items (coolers and beach bags) from the parking lot to the dock. Fun fact: There is no boating license required to drive a pontoon boat! You just need a regular drivers license and I believe all boat operators must be 25 and older. We set sail on our 8 hour excursion and sailed along the beautiful Barnegat Bay, soaking up the sun, smelling the saltwater, and taking in the gorgeous views of the Jersey coast. I recommend coming prepared with lots of food, snacks and drinks to keep the vibes going all day! The company even provided us with a Bluetooth speaker so we were able to blast our own music. Our original plan was to sail to Tices Shoal, which is where people anchor their boats, jump into the water, and party all day. They have floating food vendors there too. But there were so many jellyfish in the water this day, so we found our own little private cove without any jellyfish where we could jump out and swim and work on our tans. We even anchored down for a bit to explore this little shore which had a whole marsh behind it. It was fun finding little creatures and cool rocks and shells (all while respecting nature of course). If you're seeing this, this is your sign to book a pontoon boat with your family and friends and have the best summer day ever. We got very lucky with the weather and feeling so carefree on the pontoon was such a nice feeling. Don't miss this one of a kind Jersey shore experience! read more

This was awesome. My top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality loves jet-skiing and had been jonesing to go for several days, calling numerous places along the shoreline hoping she could find an opening for us on vacation. It wasn't until the final day of our adventures that she finally found one here that we could do on our way home. The one obvious area for constructive feedback is providing more clarity when it comes to the location. This establishment is in kind of an awkward place, on the bay right before you cross it on Route 37 to head over to Seaside. But it doesn't have its on standalone parking lot, so it's sharing a chunk of real estate with a motel and restaurant; having the address in the GPS didn't simplify matters and we ended up having to call them to direct us a little more closely to the business. I think some additional signage when you turn over the highway would help too. Regardless, the woman on the phone was very helpful and with her guidance we were able to get over to them in a few minutes. I hadn't been jet-skiing in literally decades, so I was definitely curious to see how much prep/training was given before we were set free to roam the waves of Barnegat Bay. We had to watch a quick training video (probably five minutes, if that), and then had an on-the-ground tutorial from one of the guys down by the edge of the bay, who gave us some pointers (speed is your friend, and the faster you go the less turbulent it typically is was one of the overriding messages) and went over the basics of accelerating and safely slowing down and ultimately disembarking. Straightforward and helpful. We signed up for a 30-minute session (I think my chum would have gone out longer but wanted to play it safe with someone who hadn't done this in ages) and were told that when our time expired that one of the employees would hail us down to point us back to shore. That particular employee was cruising around the perimeter of our designated area, keeping an eye on everyone. The water was very choppy while we were out there, so I was glad to see they had at least one guy nearby in case riders happened to fall off the jet-ski, which did happen to at least one person during our timeslot. You're also in the legit bay with all of the accompanying boat/watercraft traffic that goes along with that, so it was good to know they weren't just pushing people out into the wild blue yonder to totally fend for themselves. That said, you DID feel pretty independent; there were buoys to mark off the jet-ski area, and it was a pretty big area, probably close to halfway into the bay. Wasn't claustrophobic in the slightest. It felt like only 10 minutes had gone by when the guy started waving to get my attention, and I sadly rode back in to civilization. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, and as a bonus I looked super tough in my life vest. I WAS a little sore in the shoulder area the next day, but largely none the worse for wear. Overall, a great experience. The staff is friendly, helpful and competent. The boat I rented was clean, gas tank was full, and it ran great. The prices for rental were comparable to other marinas in the area. The only negative with our experience there was the awful port a potty! There is no bathroom on the premises, and it was really uncomfortable to use, especially for the females! Other than the lack of bathroom facilities, we all had a fun day and would go back to do it again! read more

HI, Overall it's a nice place to jet ski.. I thing I thought could def be improved is that there is no bathroom or changing area. Just a porta potty.. quite gross.. Something more serious- I fell off the jet ski & couldn't pull myself back up and the guy that was there for emergencies was just sitting there calmly on his jet ski telling me that he can't help me up & I need to pull myself up.. While this is going on I am busy swallowing salt water.. very choppy waters and the jet ski is being blown further & further away from me.. Eventually, when I almost broke down crying.. explaining to him that my arms don't reach the part I need to pull myself up.. he eventually gave me his arm to help pull me up and got me back to shore.. I think they need to have a life ring or rope or s/t to help pull ppl in if they fall off.. Didn't seem safe and they could seem more concerned if you fall off & help you right away.. read more

We rented a pontoon for my sister's bachelorette and had THE most amazing day. All the guys there are so incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. They prepared us for a safe and fun day on the water. We are already talking about going back for another day out with friends because we had such a wonderful experience. I would never return to this business, nor would I ever recommend anyone to spend their hard earned money here! -You're only able to use the JetSkis (which are cheap & poor quality with NO reverse feature) in a 1/2 mile square vicinity. Which means you cannot pass certain buoys, which means -- boring. You basically have the same square to go around... and even though a mile seems far... it's not. -No GoPros, video cameras or cell phones... rightfully so. But it wasn't mentioned in the waiver, nor was it mentioned to me by the person who received payment and when I pulled my phone out to secure it in my vest pocket - the "manager", Conner, who is the main contribution to this 1 star review -- said, "I'd recommend leaving your phone - and if I see it you're off (of the water) completely." Now - Ive worked in customer service for over 7 years and I know that the customer is not necessarily always correct (sorry my fellow yelpers- it's true) but there is a certain way to speak to people !! Mind you, we didn't even turn the jet skis on yet! Back to the "boundaries", they're clear but they're far and a tad hard to see with a bare eye-- I do strongly believe that the instructors or managers on the water should show where the boundaries are while on the water so that way it is clear. My partner and I were supposedly too far out or too far west so Conner stops us and tells us we are going to have to go back out to go over the rules (which weren't the issue) and to go over the riding distance & where we were allowed and not allowed-- which would cut into our 30 minute rental. I quote him, "What?? You don't know how to pay attention?" ... well excuse me!! Not only did he scold us in a discriminating and very cold manner- he treated us as though we were stupid and couldn't understand basic English or basic instructions. Anyways, we went back to the shore, where Conner said if we went past the boundaries again we would not be allowed back on. As we proceeded to get back onto our jet skis - I made a comment to my partner in a playful manner about paying attention to the rules and Conner puts his hands in the air and says "that's it! You guys are done!" I was amazed! Done with our time because I'm talking to my friend? & making light out of a very unpleasant situation so we can go back to enjoying our time, or whatever was left of it at least. I spoke to the manager, Matt if I am not mistaken, & he immediately guarded his employee when in all reality, Conner was very sensitive towards the situation and was being a straight up DICK. Pardon me , but I never write bad reviews unless it's completely necessary. I was able to get us back on the water after explaining the situation to management, which is why I put 1 star - even though I would've put 0 if I could. For $75 / half an hour - I expect customer service & an experience that I can rave about it to my friends especially since I've been dying to go jet skiing this summer! I am so thoroughly disappointed and disgusted by the practices and poor service that I received that I need all of my fellow Yelpers to understand that the way they treated me today was soo wrong & this experience in the water was the worst ever. I was better off going to the beach and letting the waves crash on my feet for more excitement, because even though the manager waived Conners ultimate decision to not allow us back on the water, by that point - I had no interest in staying at this place of business. *DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!* If there was an option to give this place ZERO stars I would! The owner is the rudest person I have ever encountered. The way he treats his customers is disgraceful and truly, I do not understand how he is still in business when he clearly has psychological issues. - I came into this place on a Sunday afternoon with four adult friends of mine, mature, respectful and all over the age of 21. We came to rent two jet ski's, called before arrival to ensure there were openings, I arrived and was given nasty, rude looks once I entered the place. They ignored us for about 10 minutes before helping us however, while signing papers to rent the jet ski's, the owner whom was at the counter decided to rip the papers out of my friends hands at random and proceeded to say: "I don't like your face get out of here" after being in such shock, myself and my group stood there not knowing what to say or do. Nothing was done in order for this man to rudely kick us out! - The owner is a discriminative, rude, disrespectful animal. After taking our waiver forms out of our hands for no apparent reason at all. He then followed us out of the building, into the parking lot to harass my friends and I who simply did nothing at all. ***He cursed, screamed, threatened and harassed*** He was encouraging a fight with two men who I entered with and screamed in a women's face. After encountering this I scrolled threw this page to find that I am not the only person to be mistreated at this shit hole so it is quite obvious that him and his team must be good at it causing a ruckus with customers. THERE ARE PLENTY OF PLACES IN THE TOMS RIVER/ SEASIDE AREA WHICH OFFER BETTER SERVICE! If you are looking for an enjoyable day with family or friends or even for your own leisure do not waste your time or money on this place!! Trust me, I am not the only one to have complaints like this. For a high class group of adults to come into this place and be treated so horribly I would not even let my dog encounter an environment like this. We originally only booked a half day and called to extend it to a full day while on the boat they were so easy to talk to. So, 1) This business shows no care for customer's experience -- keeps people waiting and waiting under the killing sun burn by the water in a 90+ hot air without any proactive explanation or showing any apology about that. 2) The employees are not professional but personal, we kept getting ignored when we asking some technical questions regarding operating the jet. I am not sure if they were under the influence of our earlier complaint. 3) Showed no respect to customer's complaint. Responded extremely rude and offensive -- called customer's complaint and questioning as 'telling him how to run his business', pointed his finger right into customer's face, kicked customers out of his services because of their complaint with words "get your money back and you won't go" ... 4) Suspiciously treats customers with discrimination -- we are Asians -- after we waited for over up to 30 minutes in the sun burn for the managers 'group-up' policy. Two couples of local people, white Americans I mean, came in and they did not need to wait to 'group-up' and went on board immediately once they finished all their paper work and instructional video. And we noticed they got a relatively very nice service from the manager and employees -- they explained things in every polite way, they never pointed a finger into their face, and they instructed them operating the jet in a very patient way ... You know what I am talking about. And of course I cannot prove that -- no one would admit they give you a 2nd degree treat because you are different, am I right? -- but you can just feel that!! If you want to experience all of these terrible terrible thing, try it It happened on Saturday, Jun 30, 2012 We went there for the half-hour waverunner rental services. Below was what happened there: 1) we paid the half-hour rental for two jet skies, signed all the paperworks, finished the pre-flying safety and operation instruction video, then ready to go. The manager let us wait by the floating dock for around 10 minutes, in the killing sunshine with 94F hot air. An employee direct of to the loading dock, right about to be on board to go. Then he let us get off the dock after he got a call from his walkie talkie. He explained that we cannot start because there were two other jet skies running on the river so it is not safe. So we had to wait until all those 2 jets returned, which was kind of disappointing but we understand it for the safety. 2) Then we waited under the sun burn for another 5 minutes till all jets came back. You know what, we still could not go because the manager had taken another jet ski rental therefor we have to wait for them finishing all the pre-flying work. The manager's explanation was we have to go out as a group because he thought we came in as a group -- but we already told him that we DID NOT want to go as a group, we want to board and go separately. If it is his policy that all the jets have to go out together as a single group, why did he let two of us go to board earlier? 3) The worst was, after another 10 minutes waiting, when we complained to him and clearly addressed that we DID NOT want to go as a group, he still refused to let us go even separately. The manager was very rude and disrespectful. He interpreted customer's complaint as "telling him how to run his business". We just want to know when could we go out for fun and did not want to wait to make a group. And when we complained again, he lost his temper and said "Get your money back. I won't let you go" with his finger pointing right on my nose -- refuse to provide the service because customer's complaint -- this was how he ran his business!!
