I have taken both my car and my wife's car to Jim at Royal Auto for a couple of years now. Located…read morenorth of St. Louis University, just behind the Fox Theater, Royal serves as a parking lot for both the school and entertainment venues. It is also an auto repair shop that's been going since the 80's. Jim will diagnose what is wrong with your car, without trying to sell you a thousand other things. He will do whatever he needs to in order to fix it to your satisfaction. Don't want to pay for a new part? He'll find you a comparable one at an area junkyard. His labor prices are the lowest I have seen in the area. The shop does not do safety and emission inspections though. You have to go elsewhere for this. The staff can be a bit gruff at times, however, the service and and thoroughness of work more than make up for it. I highly recommend Royal Auto to anyone in need of auto repairs in St. Louis.

Unless you know a mechanic there or are very knowledgeable about your car, I would suggest you not…read moreuse EcoTech. I recently purchased my first Subaru and wasn't very familiar with its engine. When the engine failed, I contacted EcoTech for service. I spoke with Misha, who quoted me $3,500 for the repair. After they received the car and disassembled it, Misha called and increased the price to over $7,000. Feeling I had no other options, I reluctantly agreed. I expected a rebuilt or new engine, but what I received looked like a junkyard unit. It used very old parts, and none of the brand-new components from my original engine were transferred over. I strongly suspect my good parts were kept and reused on other jobs. To make matters worse, the car now performs significantly worse than before. It feels very weak, with sluggish acceleration (0-60 mph in about 20 seconds) and constantly needs to downshift even on minor inclines just to maintain speed. I had also purchased new wheels after lowering the car, specifically ordering them with metal valve stems at an extra cost. EcoTech neither installed the new valve stems nor transferred the TPMS sensors from my old wheels. Additionally, they sent the car to an alignment shop and told me it would cost $120. I agreed because it was cheaper than my usual shop's $150 rate. However, I was ultimately charged $170 by the shop they recommended. Overall, I felt taken advantage of by EcoTech due to my limited knowledge of Subarus. Buyer beware -- I would never recommend or use them again.
