I got there finally and they took my car back into the shop immediately and had it ready for me that same day! Turned out I needed a new battery and battery cables. After 14 years with two different car dealers, and a lot of time spent waiting for them to look look at my car and then sometime weeks of waiting for a repair with very poor communicaiton.. When my radiator blew, no way was I taking it to a dealer. I looked at the reviews here on YELP, and that was helpful. I chose JSAR. I had it towed to JSAR, and from the moment I called to see if it was ok to have the car towed in, the man that did all the repairs spoke professionally, explaining every little detail. and totally set me at ease. Much to my suprise, I got a call that day, the day the car was towed in, and told they were busy, but he would try to take a look at it the next day or the next and then have time to work on it on Friday. I got a call the next day, with the findings of my car. I was told how much each thing would cost, and how long it would take. WELL, that car was done that day at 2!!! Roger was my mechanic, and he knocked it out of the park also with telling me about a noise under my car coming from the AC. I just was stunned. I had that ac motor replaced and it never blew cold air out of the drivers side, no heat in the winter. The dealer that put it in couldn't find any thing wrong, the two times I took it up there..because of the vibrating. ROGER fixed my ac and it is blowing out the coldest air all throughout the car. This team is amazing! Truly a God sent today when my car started making a "struggling noise" and I needed somewhere I could get into immediately. After getting a diagnostic from Autozone, I called multiple places that gave me outrageous prices. I stumbled upon Stricker and I was BLESSED! Not only were they able to get me in that morning, but I was able to meet one of the owners who had the same exact make/model. It felt comforting to know that this place has experience with my car type. I was able to leave my car with them for the week and fixed everything for an affordable price. Being a young female I was nervous to get scammed again but they were friendly and very reliable and got the job done FAST. This place is great. Seems like an honestly run business with employees who genuinely want you to understand what work is being done on your car. And the prices are fair to boot, on par with or less than what other places have charged me for the same service. Tony was awesome. He went the extra mile to answer all of my questions on how car brakes generally work (I'm just a curious person) and even showed me on a car that was being worked on. I mentioned that I didn't need the car back any time soon so that they could take their time on the repairs, since I usually take the bus or MetroLink to work anyway. Tony told me to be careful, as there had been a recent attack on the MetroLink, and he sounded genuinely concerned for my safety. John is the man if you need to keep your car going just a little longer. John is IMHO, one of the last of his breed, an honest repair shop with a very practical sense of what needs to be done. This place smells like cigarette smoke, is tiny, has a really tacky old school half naked chick wall clock in the "office" and sells $1.00 candy and chips in a bin. All a little weird, but not unexpected. Beware that John Stricker is not open after 5 on weekdays and is not open on weekends. Despite these things that one might be turned off by, this place is pretty legit for what it is. I went to John Stricker for an oil change and tire rotation and I am happy with the results. They did not over charge me and did not do any repairs that I didn't ask for. They also suggested I change my battery, but said it wasn't do or die and that I could wait another year if I really wanted to. Most places would be pushing for me to pay them to do it ASAP and wouldn't return my keys if I didn't. I am a little upset they are not open on weekends, as I work weekdays during their hours, but because of their quality service I will gladly take time off of work to go back. Also, it has been a few weeks and I have not had any issues with my car, like many may have when they leave the repair shop. Overall, I am satisfied with this place. read more

New in town and stuck with a broke down (now retired) '98 Olds Alero had me bummed a few years ago. Upon a referral from a family friend, John Stricker and his team got me through several crises: new brakes and brake pads, tires and fuel pump...just to name a few! Never once have I felt that they charged an unfair price for the service offered, nor does it take months to get an appointment at their shop. I once stopped by unnanounced because my car was making a strange noise and they fixed it right on the spot. I have also referred John Stricker to a friend and she was equally satisfied with their services. And because John Stricker is a true gentleman, all of his employees are respectful of women use their best manners when dealing with female customers! If you want pushy shiny full of crap service guys that try to screw you over, this is not the place for you. If you're going to pick at ridiculous details whether they have dollar candy, or a girlie clock, or if someone smells like ciggy smoke - again, I suggest you go to one of those unethical shops that screw people over. So here's some background. I'm in my mid 20s, I've had unreliable cars through the first decade of my driving history, I know nothing about them, I'm an honest guy, and all I've ever wanted is to meet an honest mechanic.. My Ford Taurus died on me and didn't know where to tell AAA to send my vehicle, so I looked up on yelp the highest rated auto repair shop, and sure enough John Stricker was first on the list. I said, sure why not, I'll send it to them knowing nothing about them. Called the next day talked to Tony, me was honest with me, and said I can't look at it til friday, four days out, they were that booked up. I thought about it and said, you know what I'll wait on you guys, because I have a feeling that you know exactly how things should be ran. Sure enough, he got to my car before his estimated date, and figured out why I had been having so many problems over the last year an a half. Four other shops couldn't figure it out and my car has been running great now for the last three weeks! It's a small shop, I lived in Maplewood for three years, and didn't even realized it was there. It's a little rough around the edges, definitely dated looks wise, but who cares when they do the most honest work I've experienced in Saint Louis. Found this place on Yelp a year ago when I moved to town from LA. I drive an old, "well-loved" Dodge truck that has been handed down through family. When I first got it to town, didn't know if the wheels would fall off or when the last time the oil had been changed. The guys at John Stricker broke down what I should do to make sure it was OK, and checked everything out. It's had a few quirks since my first tune-up, but Tony and the crew have kept it running great and at the most reasonable price in town. I can honestly say that I wouldn't take my car anywhere else. I usually have a hard time dropping off in the middle of the day, so they work around my schedule and let me drop it off at night, pay over the phone, and pick up whenever it's ready after they close. Pretty accommodating. They also don't service Volvos, but were nice enough to change the oil on our other car when we couldn't find another place to take it. Fantastic experience. Sure, the place is small and looks like it hasn't been refurbished in 50 years, but boy is that guy nice. Unlike almost every car-related business I've been to, he genuinely wants to help you. Took my Sienna there to get it checked before a big road trip. During the first visit he checked my car for free and told me exactly what things were wrong. Came back for a second visit so he could replace my battery; price was very fair from what I compared it to elsewhere. Since I was still a student, the guy gave me a small, fatherly lecture on what parts of my car were getting worn, explained why my check engine light and whatnot were on, and gave me some driving advice. I came here without an appointment for a basic oil change. It was ready as I finished my latte over at Foundation Coffee a block over. This place definitely lived up to its 5 stars. Tony worked on my car and noticed a minor problem on the antifreeze. He did not pressure me into getting it fix ASAP but instead he told me to bring it back only if I see any pink fluid leak on the ground. My corolla had been in an accident, and I needed a quick fix. World-wide Auto Body in Manchester was my first stop, but they were booked for weeks. So I hopped on Yelp and found this place. My specific request to them was to be honest with me, because I know hardly anything about cars. What they did next blew my mind. While I was quoted for 3.3k, they told me they'd try anything possible to shave some $ off while still doing a stand-up job. And what an outstanding job they did, it looked NEWER after the repair than it was 2 years and 2 accidents ago when my dad first gave it to me. it cost me $400 cheaper than the originally quoted price, something that made me feel like I was a customer treated with integrity. One slight thing that irked me was that at the very end, the owner tried to be a salesperson for an identity-theft protection service, and I personally hate salespeople. Minus 0.5. Possible repair work is broken down into essential, desirable, possible, and unnecessary and decisions are left up to you. If you want to learn, they will walk you through everything with a hands-on tour and show you precisely what is wrong and how it can be fixed. A word of warning: don't wait. This place gets booked fast so if you need to get your car in, call. If you can drop it off early in the morning, they can sometimes get you in and out really quickly. I actually found this body shop through, Yelp and decided to check them out. I am so glad I did. I thought my brakes needed to be changed, which we all know is crazy expensive. Turns out I just needed a part changed. Not only did he save me hundreds of dollars, but when I went to pay my card was over its daily limit. I recently had to get my vehicle inspected and had taken it to a chain repair shop. I was shocked at the repairs they told me were necessary and the cost. I decided to get a second opinion and after perusing Yelp I decided to go to John Stricker based on the reviews. My experience confirms the positive reviews. Tony has excellent customer service and values honest work. The first chain shop I went to tried to charge me $750 to replace the calipers, rotors, and pads on the front of my car. It turns out that only the pads and rotors needed to be replaced. The cost was only 1/3 with John Stricker because they only had done what was necessary. I have an old truck that I love. It's ugly. It's smelly and leaks and it makes a lot of noise. Tony was honest with me about the value of putting my money into it, but once we decided that it was my toy truck and that unless it was a lost cause, I'd like to get the maintenance done, he was totally on-board to love it too. I can not rave about these guys enough! I just moved from Chicago and my car needed a new radiator. I had no idea where to take my car so I jumped on yelp and took it to a few places for some pricing. I went to Midtown tire and auto they wanted $451. I tried Speeedway automotive, they wanted $496. Last one I went to Clayton & Big Bend service, $511. So at this point I am just starting to settle on that I am just going to have to spend all this money. But I really want to try just one more place, I find these guys and give them a call they quote me around $264. Fantastic! So I took my car the next day bright and early, not only did these guys fix my car for the grand total of $290 but they were very polite and extremely nice. Since I didn't have a ride I had to wait for my car to be fixed. I was checked on a few times to make sure I was doing good and offered a drink each time. I also heard one of the guys, I think the owner, talking to another women who was getting brakes done. She was wondering about a cheap coupon she had for a corporate mechanic. He was very honest with her about his prices and why his price was higher and offered her a few times very nicely that she could take her car up to this other place and see if it will really come out cheaper. That if they try to sell her any extras he can safely tell her that she doesn't need any of it. That it is her car and she should try to get the best price she could from where ever. After taking my car to marshalls on green wood for an a.c. problem and being told lies I took my car to strickers. They took the time to figure out what the complated problem was.
