And so was the artist...I went in with no call ahead to say what time and talked to the artist as soon as he finished a piece he was doing. We talked and two weeks later I got this amazing beautiful Glenn Close as Cruella on my thigh. The shop was relaxing, clean, everyone was nice. I had the best experience and will be going back for more tattoos. Also got my septum repierced there and had no problem with the piercer or ring. DO NOT GO HERE FOR ANY TATTOO OR PIERCING!!! I got my very first ear piercing here a few years ago and had a terrible experience. After waiting two hours in a parlor that just made me feel uncomfortable (dark lighting and fallic piercing models which is unsettling for a 15 year old), we were put in a tiny room with the owner. He placed the dots in the complete wrong place and both sides were really uneven. When my mother voiced her concerns, he said "you either do it how I want or you can leave." At that point we had waited so long that it was pointless to just leave. I wanted to hold my moms hand and he became irrationally angry about it and refused to allow her anywhere near me, which was mildly traumatizing for someone who had never been pierced before. After he did the piercing, we noticed that it was completely uneven and in the wrong place, he almost pierced my neck it was so far from the lobe. He pierced at a strange angle, to the point that I couldn't even put earrings in after the healing period. He said "I'm a professional, trust me" which is not the most comforting thing to hear if you're getting your first piercing ever. Afterwards he said to twist the earrings which I just found it is the ABSOLUTE WRONG THING TO DO!!! Twisting the piercing causes scar tissue and reopens the wounds. This place and the owners reputation is far less than favorable among other respected tattoo artists and piercers. I was told by my new piercer that he had a client who was 12 who went here and asked to hold her mothers hand because she was scared, only for the owner to call her a pussy and to make her cry, resulting in him saying once again that she was a pussy and wasn't responsible enough to get a piercing at all. This man is borderline sociopath and from what I have heard from multiple people is that for some reason, mother-daughter pairs who come in for piercings make him unnaturally angry and hostile. We overpaid for a terrible piercing and paid $21 for a saline solution that is supposed to be $8. Anyone who has such terrible customer service skills and inexperience with piercing should NEVER work in piercings or tattoos, let alone own a business. read more

Well I came here in 2013 when I went to FSU for my septum piercing. I'm leaving this post now because well... 7 years later my septum still open! (I know everyone's body is different and some ppl may not be able to go years without any jewelry like me) I also had so much time during quarantine I'd figure why not. this place is super clean and professional. Looking back the only thing I would've changed might've been the music playing in the background lmao. It was like some form of heavy metal/rock. That type of music isn't really my thing but it was low volume but my adrenaline was already going lol. But they gave me super clear instructions on how to take care of my piercing. Thought I wrote a review for this place but I don't see it here! One of the worst places I've ever been for customer service. The guy who did my tattoo didn't introduce himself, and insulted the tattoo I wanted. He pretty much told me I should get something else because it wasn't original enough for his taste. The only reason I even let him tattoo me was because my friend I was with got her tattoo for a sibling who passed away and I didn't want to walk out on her. I will NEVER go back here. I've never been treated so disrespectful by someone I'm paying good money to put something on my body that's going to be there the rest of my life. My husband and I just moved to Massachusetts from Utah and I needed some new jewelry for a piercing that had fallen out on the trip over. We walked in, stood at the counter and couldn't even tell who worked there. There were people sitting on the couch, leaning on the counter, couple guys walked in from having a cigarette and everyone just either walked past us, or stared like we didn't belong there. Got my first ear piercing here. The lobby was confusing. My friends and I walked and didn't know what to do. We roamed aimlessly until someone finally asked what we wanted. They did not tell me the prices up front so I was shocked when I had to pay. The guy who did the piercing was nice and funny but when I called back a month later to ask a question about my piercing, he was rude. I'm really disappointed in the reviews I'm seeing on here. When I go to a piercing/tattoo shop I want to be told honest opinions. If the tattoo I want is a stupid idea and is going to look terrible...I would want the artist to tell me that! I don't find anyone who works at route 9 tattoo to be rude. Straight forward, yes...but there's nothing wrong with that in my book. I have 10+ piercings all done by Rob...not one has ever had an issue. And also, he has marked every piercing before sticking me with giant needles, so I'm not sure what some of these people are talking about. I also have one tattoo done by an artist that no longer works there, it's beautiful. AND I'm currently torturing myself with a huge back piece/ coverup done by Jay which so far is AMAZING. I brought my daughter there for her first tattoo today. Her appointment was at 1:00. Right at 1, Natalia came out and started working with her. Showed her the design she had worked on and made a few adjustments. Showed her the words my daughter had chosen, let her choose through a bunch of fonts until she found just the right one. Only after both me and my daughter were happy with the design and the placement did she start. She was very kind, patient and caring during the whole process. I can't emphasize enough how kind and patient she was. If you are thinking of getting your first tattoo I highly recommend you go and request Natalia. It is well worth the wait. Go to the Rt. 9 tattoo facebook page and look at her work. It is amazing. Over the phone she gave us a price range to be safe and so we were prepared. To my surprise when it was all done she gave us the low estimate cost. Keep in mind this is pretty much out of the customers control. An artist can give you a price range and just demand the high price regardless. But after spending all that time designing, prepping and getting ready, then the hours spent on the tattoo, she still gave us the low estimate. In the end my daughters first tattoo experience was great. She got the exact piece she wanted. All her line work was great, the lettering was perfect and the price was very, very reasonable. They go above and beyond to make sure your tattoo looks amazing and that your tattoo/piercing heals correctly. I decided to go here just because of how close it is to me. Worst decision of my life. I just turned 18 and went in to get my septum pierced, I was super nervous and the second I walked into the shop I was treated terribly. It took 15 minutes for someone to even great me. The piercer didn't even give me the choices of what type of ring to get in my nose. He brought me in the piercing room, and the only upside was everything was extremely clean. He didn't even explain to me what was going on. He didn't say a word to me until I had to pay. It was terrible. Didn't explain the process, didn't explain how to properly clean, and he pierced me with an 18g when I wanted a 16g. He was so rude and I felt like I was being judged the entire time. After everything happened my friend wanted to ask a tattoo artist for how much her tattoo would cost there. The tattoo artist and the piercer laughed at what she wanted told her it was "generic as fuck". This was in 2012 and I'm soooo surprised this place is still open. read more

I got my second tattoo here and the first thing I noticed was how clean and welcoming the place looked. They have a lounge by the front desk with leather couches and giant flat screen tv. The whole place felt clean and not grungy. The set up was really nice. The guy at the front desk was very friendly and even put up with my nervous questions. The artist who did my tattoo (sorry, can't remember the name. James? Joe? It started with a J) did great with my tat and I love it. He was a little abrasive and not very welcoming which kind of put me off. He spoke to me during the process but it was not friendly banter. It was more complaining about his shift and the annoying customers he gets. I was under the impression that he wasn't too happy about working there and it made me feel as if I was bothering him by being there. It was not the most comfortable situation to be in. His work was great though, the lines are really clear and it turned out great! I would probably go back because I like their work which is probably the most important and the shop itself felt great. I would just not expect to have a jolly conversation with the tattoo artist and would rather sit there in silence. read more

It seems like this place just doesn't want business. I had made an appointment over the phone, sent an email of several inspiration examples for the tattoo I wanted to get with my sister and mother. They never even worked on the tattoo. We walked in for the appointment I could instantly feel this place had bad energy. We were ignored, once I figured out who to check in with he was very rude, unhelpful, and judge mental with a comment he made about how my tattoo is just a Pinterest tattoo, I felt uneasy and unwelcome. True disappointment, I rarely see my mother and sister as I live in Los Angeles, my mother lives in Florida, and my sister in Boston, we had been talking about getting this family inspired tattoo for months and were looking forward to it for quite sometime. I have gotten two tattoos from here. The first one was with Jay. He was fantastic, great personality and definately kept me in the loop with placement and color and after care. I had such a great impression with him that I went back with a friend. The second time we had Walt and an awful experience. Although the tattoo itself is good the experience was not. He did care about the color I asked for, which it is not, or the size. He had zero personality and there were 5 of us stuffed into this tiny cuby hole. To top off not getting the color or size I wanted he also "accidently" shaved off an inch of my scalp, no where near the tattoo placement. I can't say I will ever recoment this place or go there again. The price was decent too. read more

This place is not great for piercings! I had the simplest piercing in the world(an earlobe and a cartilage) and they somehow managed to mess it up. They pierced my ears with hoops instead of studs and didn't ask me which one I wanted. Eventually, I had to have my piercings taken out as they were infected the entire SIX MONTH healing time. My current piercer told me they hadn't healed properly and were pierced incorrectly. This place isn't your safest bet if you want your piercings to heal correctly! read more

TERRIBLE!! I went in to get a tattoo for my brother who passed away (koi fish) because he loved them and they were nothing but rude. The artist never introduced himself, another guy behind the counter said the koi fished looked like a penis. This is for my deceased brother you asshole. They wouldn't position the tattoo the way I wanted it because it was to big. Any other tattoo artist would have just shrunk the tattoo a little but I'm almost sure now that this guy is just a glorified tracer not an actual artist. The owner is the douche bag from that terribly scripted show "Southie Rules" who doesn't know how to tattoo but is excellent at overpricing them. The guy who's tattooing my arm is in a text message fight with his friggin girlfriend while he's tattooing. How unprofessional is that? I'm getting a tattoo for my brother and it's emotional for me and Captain Trace A Lot is taking a break every two minutes to text his girlfriend. This is by far the worst place I have ever gone to get a tattoo and I HIGHLY recommend you don't go here for yours. Overpriced and unprofessional. I only got the outline of mine done and I have to go somewhere else to get it finish because some of the lines are REALLY messed up. I cannot stress enough how much I really dislike this place and how much I urge you to bring your business elsewhere. I have never in my life left a review for any establishment I have ever been to. So i got my tattoo summer of 2012. It was done by Ralph. It's small, on my wrist, and what some people would call cliche. It has meaning to me, and placed specifically to be able to hide it well for jobs or anything. I love tattoos but I don't want to be covered in them or visible ones. I'm more of a sideline appreciator of tattoo art. So anyways. Ralph seemed like he could have cared less about my tattoo. He barely said ten words to me except to hold still (I was tapping my foot on the opposite side of my body). It was my first tattoo so I didn't know the drill but he didn't know that because he never asked. Whatever. He did it, I left. I came back and had it touched up by somebody else who was a lot nicer. (sorry, didn't get the name). Its nice that they offer free touch ups after they heal. The front desk guy was pretty nice but once again I felt like I was like not important to them because I got something small and easy - aka they didn't make much money off of me. I didn't tip Ralph but I tipped the second guy. I'm not in the planning stages for another tattoo at the moment so I'm not sure if I will return here. I may shell out more money and go somewhere else. My brother got a tattoo by Ralph that cost about $300. It looks awesome. He has some weird scarring on it but I don't think that has anything to do with Ralph's work. I can get a picture another time and edit my review to show his. read more

Still don't understand how the piercer hasn't been fired yet. Probably the most rude person I have ever met. I've been here a couple times, once for a tattoo, which was okay, and a second time to replace a piece of jewlery. The piercer was SO rude and for the first time in my life, the piercing got infected after he changed it. I always keep my piercings clean and have neve had an issue until I went to him. Seems a little sketchy. ANYWAY ... I recently went there for a third time with my friend to get her nose pierced and he was still working there. I don't understand how. Everyone who has gone to rt 9 always complains about how rude he is. I asked if I could get a shorter post for my monroe, he was snippy and condescending and said that I already had the shortest (which is not true). Then I was like okaaay well can I get a bigger stud for my monroe, and he asked what size I had. I had no idea what size the gem was! So I said I didn't know and he said "well then I can't help you". LIKE SERIOUSLY?? This is your job is it not? You can't tell by looking at it? He was basically ignoring me and being extremely rude. I had a blue rose wrist tattoo done somewhere else about a year ago and was never really happy with the work. It looked like and old faded tattoo with really dark colors. Mike Randazzo re-did all of the lines and re-colored it and now I finally love my tat! Mike is super talented and not only did he do a great job but also made me feel very comfortable during the process. I had gotten piercings done here 10 years ago with a good experience, so I was hoping to to have the same. While I was waiting, a puppy they had in the shop was not being watched and peed all over the floor! So gross. The actual piercing was fine, but Rob went over the guidelines so fast I could barely understand and got annoyed when I asked questions. I was not told the price of the jewelry so I was shocked when he told me the total amount. I was not given any cleansing products, weren't offered any as well, just a photocopied sheet that could not be read. My 10 year later experience was by far not acceptable. read more

Just finished getting a tattoo and was incredibly pleased! My first tattoo that actually came out exactly how I wanted. Have had bad experiences elsewhere. Natalia did it. Great person to talk to and amazing tattoo artist! So detailed and realistic. Worked fabulously with my budget. Also months ago bought an expensive dermal flower that fell out within a week and I lost it. Went back and the piercing guy, bob, I believe, put in a new one at no cost and it's stayed solid-y in there now for 6 months. Great customer service and great work. Couldn't be happier with my first experience at Route 9 Tattoo & Piercing. My brother and I went in this past Saturday as walk-ins hoping to get an appointment with Natalia. As soon as we entered I got a good vibe. John, the owner, was very friendly and professional, as were the other artists coming in and out of the waiting room. It was very busy but Natalia was able to fit us in toward the end of the day. I got two small tattoos and my brother got a larger more detailed piece. Natalia was SO lovely, super sweet and friendly, and did an amazing job. Her designs are stunning! Pricing was very reasonable also.
