I recently attended a sponsored event at Rowan downtown for a "free" piercing. The staff here are so warm and welcoming and truly made this Nervous Nelly feel very comfortable. I elected to get a nose piercing and Chelsea helped guide me through the whole process. It was soooo much easier and less painful than I had expected it to be. My only reasoning for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the $20 cleaning spray should be included with the price of the piercing/jewelry. I went for a free piercing and ended up spending over $100 on what I thought was a $65 piece of jewelry when you added the cleaning solution, tax, and tip. read more

Unfortunately, due to the aftermath of the piercing here, I need to rate this 1 star. I was here on vacation with my 5 year old who has been begging to get her ears pierced, so we chose Rowan and came on our vacation for a "core memory". We kept up with the all ofthe aftercare instructions (cleaning / turning of the earrings), and only 4 weeks later started to tell me her ear was hurting. We happened to be at the doctor for something else, so they took a look & had to remove her earring to look at the back. The earring was SO right / against her skin it was starting to rub her skin away & concave into her ear lobe, so we had to remove it & treat it with a medicated ointment to avoid much worse complications if we kept it in. Now my daughters right piercing has closed up, and she is traumatized with the whole experience due to the pain she experienced having it on & at the doctors office. Now, she only has one ear pierced and I spent way too much here to go through this aftermath. read more

Rowan on King Street is such a great place to get pierced in Charleston. The studio is super clean and has a really nice, calm vibe. The staff is kind, patient, and walks you through every step so you feel comfortable the whole time. Their jewelry is gorgeous!! They have lots of simple, dainty pieces that look really elevated. My experience from start to finish was smooth and easy. I'd definitely recommend Rowan if you're thinking about getting a piercing downtown. read more

Stopped in with the girlfriend after a great experience with the Rowan in Chicago... she just wanted a new earring to place a cheap one that was turning her ear green. We were having such a pleasant experience, we ended up replacing all of the cheap junk in her ear with better quality stuff. Is it a little more expensive? Absolutely. But Rowan is less expensive than most of the professional piercing places I have been too (though they really only do ears as far as I can tell), and you can just walk in with no appointment, and they have a great selection of quality jewelry. I got a piercing here today and not to sure that I would recommend. There were 2 women working when I came in and they were not helpful or welcoming at all. I explained what I wanted done and there were no explanations about what the difference between using the device and needle method were and I didn't receive aftercare information. One women kept acting extremely condescending to everyone who came in, I will definitely not be returning or recommending to anyone. Edit to add: Be careful when prompted about tipping, the total will include both earrings (have to buy one for each ear, if you want a matching pair) and the service, which is $35, but I forgot and tipped on the total purchase which included the earrings. read more

Without question, a 5 star place! The employees at Rowan were phenomenal.... Patient, kind, smart, attentive, and very informative. Sarah was exceptional! Our 8 year old was highly nervous to get her ears pierced and this studio made it a delightful memory for her. They have a higher price point than other places but I felt we got what we paid for. The ladies were so sweet! There are some piercings they don't do so definitely make sure research if they do your piercings before you head there. They open at 10am which is great because not too many shops open at that time. read more

Very disappointed. I came here for my own piercing and was satisfied. I then took my daughter and the staff pierced her cartilage and punched some of her hair into it. at checkout we politely asked for help and the nurse broke the hairs off/out of the front of the earing . Once we were outside in the sun we noticed that from the backside there was still clearly hair going through the pierced hole so went back again. The woman made us feel like we were troublesome and making it up. She had to undo and re-do the piercing but was unpleasant and unapologetic. This is just carelessness for this level of hygienic service and cost. read more

I took my daughter for her birthday to get your second ear piercing. When I booked online we decided to go with the device piercing since she found a pair of earrings she liked but when we arrived she changed her mind, she wanted the needle because it had a backless flat post. I wasn't aware that for needle piercings the price was per stud and was shocked at checkout. I wish someone would've informed me at the store of the price difference from device to needle piercing. I contacted Rowan's customer service team for a few minor issues and they were so helpful and understanding! Overall we had an amazing experience and would recommend to friends. read more

Amazing! The workers were VERY nice and took care in each thing they did. The worker that pierced my ears, (Hannah) took time to make sure the markings were even and lined up. I have no problem with the people who work at this location, because they were nice, but the business model is a scam. I live in Charleston, so I'm used to "King street prices", but this was crazy. Before I had my daughter's ears pierced I researched a few places, and also checked out Rowan online. They seemed to have reasonable prices, online, but when you get into the actual shop they're "out of" the more reasonably priced earrings, so we had to purchase earrings that were 95.00 per earring, not pair! (That does not even include the piercing cost.)That was the cheapest they had. Had this not been a gift for my daughter's birthday, I would have just walked out. I'm a nurse myself, and there's nothing special going on here outside of alcohol and iodine. Go to a Claire's and save 200 dollars or more. read more

Rude! We came in to get piercings and two ladies were behind the counter. We had questions and they were both very condescending and not at all helpful. When we tried to use their website to book appointments while we were in the store, their site kept refreshing and forcing us to start the request over. I heard others in the store complaining about the same issue. Their website issues were annoying but I would have tolerated it if the employees were more pleasant and helpful. read more
