i saw Annie with my grandmother and mother. The show was great and super cute it made me want to go back and watch the movie to relive it right after. the sound was good it was never too loud or too soft and no feedback. With it being such a little stage i did not feel like i missed anything and was surprised how i could still get the feel of each scene. We had popcorn and water from the concessions which was kind of expensive when you think about it. I am not by any means a theatre aficionado, but I'm a fan of fun, and this new little "360 degree theatre" is a blast. A friend got jazzed to see Rocky Horror, so I agreed to accompany. That's how I floated into this magical spot on their second weekend. I was unsure about the location in an old nightclub in a forgotten strip off Fredericksburg, but game for some Sweet Transvestite action. It's a small space; I believe "intimate" would be the proper euphemism. From the start of the show, I knew it would be entertaining, but I was pleasantly surprised HOW entertained I was. The production was spirited and clever and campy in all the right ways. The show was well cast, with the actors all pouring their hearts out, clearly having fun in the process. Being an 'intimate' theatre, the actors were available after, posing for pictures and chatting. That's when I learned a bit of background: the Roxie comes to us via a veteran of San Antonio theatre. San Antonio actors are lucky to have The Roxie, and so are we: get thee to the theatre to support this little upstart! What Mixtli is to the San Antonio food scene, the Roxie is to the Performing Arts: it's founded on the passion of a musical theatre geek, with a commitment to quality (if deliciously less "high minded"). Lucky for us, there are more seats than a "showing" at Mixtli. I can't wait to see what they'll dream up if they can pack the place with enthusiastic audiences. (I keep hearing Frank-n-furter sing "Don't dreeeaammm it / BeeEEE iiiit" in my head as I write this...) I'm going back for more! Heather the Musical -- I'm not sure what I missed. It was sexual abuse, murder, fathers degrading their sons. If it was suppose to be disgusting they did a great job. But it certainly was not entertaining. We left at intermission. read more

First visit here and was very impressed. The cast of My Fair Lady did a phenomenal job (Eliza/Kelly, you have a wonderful voice). The renovated theater itself was very intimate and made you feel welcome. We'll be regulars from here on. Highly recommend supporting this venue! read more

CHICAGO the Musical was disappointing. Not worth the ticket price. I've enjoyed previous shows multiple times- totally over this spot.

This is my second time here at the Roxie Theater, the first show being Rocky Horror Show, and I loved it and had to come back for another show to really get a grasp of the experience The Roxie Theater had to offer before writing this review. This show was All Shook Up and I was not disappointed! The music is amazing and it gets you into the show and it is also hilarious, which is a plus. The place itself it somewhat small, but they know how to stage the whole place accordingly and make it spacious and amazing. Being a 360 theater All of the seats are good seats! So no matter where you sit you get a good view of the show! The staff is extremely friendly and kind since the first time I've walked in. They also have a bar with some alcoholic beverages ( beer, wine, sangria) nonalcoholic beverages (coke and water) some candies bars. At the end of the show you are able to go up and meet the cast and take pictures which is different than other places. I will be back for a few more shows I am excited that are coming up! They also have Disney productions for your children, in excited to bring my daughter here to experience and appreciate the arts when the next children's play is available! read more

I booked a show at the Roxie and they cancelled it without any prior notice. I live an hour and half from the theater making the drive only to find a note on the door that the show was canceled. The issue is that they refuse to refund my money. I do not recommend anyone attend or buy something where they take your money and do not deliver the product. My only recourse is to dispute it with my credit card company and file a grievance with the Better Business Bureau. read more

Roxie Theatre is a true treasure right here in San Antonio. Jonathan Pennington has brought Broadway to our city. He has received several prestigious awards that translate to First Rate, Top Notch shows. In viewing several shows such as Chicago, Shout, The Heathers and Winter Wonderlettes, we have experienced Broadway in an innovative, magnificent way. Roxie Theatre has thrust stage seating that places you right smack in the action. My wife and I have become huge fans of the casts, especially Angelique Gabrielle Paccione who is a very talented performer with a great voice and extremely talented in dance and choreography! There is also refreshments such as beer, wine, soft drinks, water, popcorn and other snacks. Oh! and the performers after each performance are very gracious and come out to meet and greet the crowd and take photos with everyone. A true fun family environment. We became life long fans of Jonathan, Angelique, the rest of the cast members and of Roxy Theatre. You will always leave entertained, and with getting to meet a new friend from the cast or crowd. The Roxie Theater is a wonderful engaging atmosphere for theater enthusiasts. The stage and actor is incorporate the audience so that there is a connection during the show. The multi-leveled stage and seating allows every guest to see the show intimately and connectively. I have seen three shows already here at the Roxie and I plan on seeing many more. Everyone from the moment you walk in makes you feel like family. Each set-up in this "360 degree" theatre had a slightly different feel to it. I don't believe there is a bad seat in the place. Every play has had, in my opinion, been perfectly cast.
