The cookie portion is so rich it's almost like chewy raw cookie dough but frozen, and the gelato is among the best I've ever had. Everything is actually made in France and imported. 5 star service: Both counter folks were very sweet and funny. They even explained which color was which flavor, because I had forgotten my glasses. I was waiting to pick up someone and saw this place to get gelato, so why not try it. All the reviews said try the black vanilla and I got that and cappuccino, which was better than the black vanilla. The hubs and I shared the black vanilla gelato with a red velvet cone. Black vanilla (made with charcoal) was definitely a fav in our group, but all the flavors were really good. The cone was also surprisingly tasty. It was thin and had some slight flavors. It's not at all like the thick waffle cones at some ice cream/gelato places. Aside from the 12 gelato flavors and 6 cone choices, the other treats looked amazing. One friend bought lots of treats. She let us sampled the chocolate bag (grapes covered with chocolate and sauterne wine) which was really good. There were also macaroon ice cream that looked super yummy. Overall: Le Roy Rene is def unique and worth a visit again. For around $7, you get one small scoop of gelato ($5.35) and a handmade cone ($1.60). It was worth it though.
