Stumbled across crossfit and man!! Winner winner chicken dinner!! I'm seeing progress I never achieved on my own. The transformation from crossfit and these coaches is so encouraging and rewarding. Crossfit has finally made working out become a regular routine vs dreaded chore that phases out. New location! Same awesome coaches and workouts. The coaches Jeff & Bobby are great. They coach formal instructions and techniques in a relaxed, fun way. Each class is always a challenge but in an addicting way and not dreadful way. Although some can be dreadful but no pain, no gain ;) I enjoy the variety of workouts with the constant soreness and strengthening of muscles. Classes are an hour long but feels like 10min every time because of the variety of techniques and strength work packed into each class. I've never been the athletic type and the gym always intimidated me. But with crossfit I feel comfortable even with my physical level. Try something new and give it a shot!

They are patient and quick to critique your form when it needs it so you get optimal performance. Not to mention they are just very easy going, decent guys. They know their stuff and you can't help but trust them because their directions give great results. I highly recommend Friction Crossfit. I opted for this location to be my "home" gym since it's the closest to me, but after visiting a couple others, I'm not sure if I'm going to frequent this one as often. Given it's location of being downtown, the only option is to pay for street (metered) parking or use their parking ramp. The idea of paying for a gym membership and then paying for parking each time is a huge deterrent for me! It would make me not want to go nearly as much, however, that is only one part of the gym-going experience! It was very easy to find, and at 7am, it isn't as busy as other times of the day. I like that the app shows you the "crowd meter" but I'm realizing I don't fully understand how they gauge it. It showed that it was low but there was quite a few people around! And when I went to a different location, it showed "more people" but looked like it was completely empty. There are a lot of machines and an upstairs for cardio (and downstairs too), so there is always something you can do if you're waiting for anything in the strength training space. I liked the layout and everyone there was really respectful. Very clean too!

They are both super generous gentle souls. I am usually there but a weekend each year to attend Desirée Rumbaugh's fall workshop. Behnje and Desirée are very close in a student teacher relationship. Behnje said she applies Desirée's latest teachings starting with each annual workshop. I'd recommend the studio for anyone serious about deepening their yoga practice along the lines of Desirée Rumbaugh!

The instructors are extremely nice, and clearly know what they are talking about. They know how to push the kids to do their best, but never yell or get aggressive like you hear about on those gymnastics horror stories. I watch the kids each week from the observation area and I couldn't be happier with the instruction and support they are getting. One last note, this place offers 'day camp' in the summer (basically day care). The kids get to enjoy all the fun of this huge gymnastics center while being watched by the instructors. My kids only went twice this summer, but it was a life saver as far as babysitting goes. The only problem is my kids beg me to let them go every day even though their mom is home to watch them, lol. If your kids have any interest in gymnastics, give this place a try!

I was previously a member of a privately owned gym, and the management and staff there was so much friendlier and kind. Cancelling there was also a breeze. I will be heading back to that gym and will not be a member of the Grand Rapids YMCA again.
