I was in Banff for a quick vacation and booked the Royal Canadian Lodge. I did get a pretty good price on the room, so I didn't have any issues with price (although, I heard that the price can be pretty pricey in this area). Check in was a breeze and as an added bonus, I was able to check in a little early so I can get freshened up for dinner on the first day. The staff was courteous and nice. To start, a couple of cons for this place. The property is pretty outdated. The AC is quite loud and the cleanliness was just OK. I found a couple of hairs in the shower, the carpet was quite old. I definitely wore slippers in the room. The restaurant downstair also looked quite outdated, so I skipped in favor of another restaurant in downtown. Also, the parking was super scary. There is only 1 way to get in and out, so I saw cars trying to get in/out at the same time. It was not as bad when I was there because it was not as busy, but I can see it being quite hectic when it. But, that was the only cons I had and could overlook that because there was quite a few positives for this. The location was great. It was close enough to the main area (about 3-4 blocks). The rooms were pretty big. I also really enjoyed the indoor pool and sauna, which closed pretty late at 11 PM. Great way to unwind for the day. Also, as tip, they don't give water here (I think I saw water in the front, but they took it out at night). So, I just went down and filled my water bottle at the gym. I would definitely come back here for my next stay at Banff. Great location and decent rooms. read more

I booked Royal Canadian Lodge expecting to actually stay at Royal Canadian Lodge. I had a confirmed reservation, but when I showed up at the property, I was told I was being moved to another hotel instead - while there were still rooms available at this lodge. At no point before arrival was I clearly notified of this change, and nobody asked for my real permission. After a long day of travelling, I was tired and just needed a bed for the night, so arguing at the front desk or trying to find a new place simply wasn't realistic. It felt less like a choice and more like being told, "This is what we've decided for you." I'm giving them a score that reflects the communication and adjustment that they made to our bill after of their employees accidentally left our door open for the second/final day. Beds were comfortable. Hotel was on the main strip, towards the eve but very walkable. They allowed us into the parking early. I don't usually say much about hotels. It's a clean room and bed. Yes. But not nearly as nice as expected. Or as advertised. I don't recommend staying at this place. Many other hotels on the Banff main road have windows or balconies or nice place to sit. This does not. This place seems to cater to bus tours who get meals included in bulk pricing. Your cost is far too high for the room type, size, no view, pay for everything with no discount etc. ...... room. Didn't get cleaned two of our 5 days. Nothing is included. We had to ask for the coffee pods for hot water pot (your coffee maker pot was missing and never replaced; but we improvised). Charged for parking at the fee we paid!? $700 per night. Outrageous. nuts. No view at all from room. View of a street. Didn't match up to photos. We make the reservation many months ago. No place out side to enjoy a sit / drink (your small, metal chairs on the car park front entrance really don't count as a positive). Not worth it for $350 as the other hotels charge. For this hotel the day rate of $700 and no breakfast or discount. Nothing. Nuts. Front desk could barely convey the info. Upon arrival - no mention of spa and salt water hot tub, etc. We found it ourselves on day 3. Upon arrival. We were early by a few hours. So they took our phone number for a ring when room was ready. No call. We arrived at 1600 with NO CALL from you and the room was ready a while before. Thanks for - nothing much. read more

we stayed in a suit with a jetted tub that didn't work. nor did the room's air conditioning. we asked to make breakfast reservations per the menu in the room but were told that there was only a buffet on til 9 am due to tour busses coming in. when asked if i could get menu items via room service before 9 am i was told no; against blaming incoming tour busses. as i was checking out the next morning at 8:25 there was no one in the restaurant so i tried to get a table for non buffet service but was again told that they could not accommodate me until after nine due to the apparently non existent tour buses. regardless, it really shows you how they feel about their paying customers. needless to say we will never be back!!!! made to feel like i was inconveniencing them while i paid an extreme price for a room where nothing worked. read more

I had to get an emergency hotel when the darn car rental place was closed. This place had openings and I didn't have many options. For $500 a night, this would not be my first choice. The place is alright. You're close to Downtown and walking distance to the bustling and booming of the town. The pool closes early and feels musty as there is the hot tub and sauna. There was ALOT of chlorine in the hot tub because I only lasted 20 minutes in there before my eyes were burning from the steam rising. Staff are nice, but there really isn't anything special here. I got shots at the bar at $10 a shot, which wasn't too bad. Elevators are extremely slow. read more

This place will always have a lovely warm spot in my heart because it's the first hotel that my boyfriend and I stayed at and we enjoyed skiing nearby at sunshine. Lovely staff, very friendly and accommodating but not too in your face. Very efficient underground parking and great location within a short walk to downtown... It's lovely and decorated for Christmas right now with a lot of brightly lit Christmas trees in the front yard. Quite reasonable prices. read more

There was lots to like about the RCL. The location was very good - on the main drag but away from the most crowded area. Our room was excellent - spacious, with a sitting area, fire place, and jacuzzi tub. It was also very clean. Some of the staff - namely Neil the concierge and Olivia the bartender - were very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. They gave us great guidance s on things to do in the area. However, the common areas need major work. The restaurant and bar are dark and dated. Perhaps most significantly, there is no outside space except for a few uncomfortable metal tables in front of the hotel. Other places have patios and restaurants with outside seating. Without that, we were constantly leaving the hotel to find a nice place to hang outside. So I hope they do some renovations because I think this could be one of the nicest hotels in the area. read more

A ton of money for what we got. Would definitely not come back for the price. Look out our window (see photos below) and see the Mountain View's as advertised on their website- not. The service desk had some great receptionist and some definitely not so great. Bar doesn't open til 4:00 and promise me you won't order a gin Martini tho the bar tender was kind and professional and fun to talk to. There are no microwaves in the rooms and our refrigerator was broken the whole time; however, those who clean the rooms did a great job and I must say, I loved the hot tub and sauna. This hotel is in a great location in downtown Banff. Be prepared to pay for parking, $15 with or without valet. Another option is to park on the street, which is free, but which can be a bit of a hunt sometimes. The entry is pleasing with reception and concierge on the right; seating and restaurant on the left. The hallways are a bit dated and finding the elevator is not intuitive as it is located at the far end from the entry and around a wall. We came in and out a few times over two days and continued to find the location challenging. The layout is not exactly like a maze, but improved signage would go a long way to dispelling confusion. This perception extended from room location to spa and pool as well, which can be found in the basement. The gym was small but included some cardio with a bike and treadmill, as well as resistance. I appreciate they have limited space, but included a refresh area across the hall. I didn't get a look at the spa, but identified this little nook by the curtain to a hallway with seating outside a door. I'm not sure what is behind the door. The pool area was quite lovely and had men's and ladies washrooms, steam (love) and fresh towels. The pool itself looked clean and had what looked like a hot tub area elevated towards the back. Although we didn't have the time to enjoy it beyond an exploratory wander, I would definitely choose to give it a try in the future. The rooms themselves were a good size and the high ceilings made them feel spacious. I used plural because although a friend and I stayed in a room with two queen beds, I also peeked in some rooms when housekeeping was near and admired a king corner suite & a room like ours with one bed. All rooms were consistent and had a more upgraded feel than the hallways would suggest with their maroon and forest green decor. The washroom was a good size with a pocket door separating two areas: one had a tub-shower, sink and toilet, with room to move and dress; the entry area had a sink with a good amount of counter space, a closet, single cup coffee maker and kettle. The windows face another property, but still feel private as they are offset and there is a lot of greenery. There is also a gas fireplace that would feel cozy in the winter. There was a desktop usb charging hub with extra plugs and a flat screen TV. The remote needed new batteries and still was finicky and should be replaced soon. We went to the restaurant for breakfast. I had the omelet, which I found to be salty and my friend had the scrambled eggs. The buffet underwhelming, being pretty basic fare and seeming to be overpriced in my opinion: scrambled eggs, potatoes that looked too dark, small assortment of hot and cold options, but nothing that stood out from the menu. Note that my friend chose menu scrambled eggs over the buffet scrambled eggs. The staff was very welcoming and friendly! Every single person we encountered was pleasant, helpful, respectful and responsive. We met someone from the back area who guided us to the pool, the fellow who Cam with batteries was great, reception welcomed us back every time we returned from an outing, the waitress was accommodating and the valet brought up a pair of shoes from the car. It was exceptional customer service! The star downgrade was for the dated decor, maze like layout and the restaurant experience (not the people). read more

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon and have raved about this hotel since. It's cozy, has a wonderful lodge feel, and the rooms are warm and inviting. On our way back from Jasper, we were upgraded to the executive suite. Michael was the best valet you could ever ask for, and he gave us some great tips on where to go and things to do. We had a lovely mini getaway to Banff and chose to stay at the Delta Banff. We stayed in a 2 queen room with terrace access. The room was a bit dated as mentioned but is kind of par for the course in the area. The beds were comfy delta beds, which is actually part of why we ended up choosing the delta, you can pretty much trust the bed will be good. :) The room also didn't offer a convenient place to store coats or shoes, there was no real closet in the entry way, we ended up just piling our shoes by the doors and throwing coats over the chairs in the room. Which I will say, I do love when a hotel room has a chair or two. :) The terrace access does not offer any views, its in the middle of the roof (ish) and is mostly setup for smokers to access. There are some benches and it might actually be a nice place to have a glass of wine or beer in the summer, it is handy to have it off the room. The choice was between a fireplace or terrace access. We had breakfast twice at the Evergreen restaurant, once for brunch and once regular breakfast. I agree the brunch is simple and nicely laid out, and we loved that they had eggs Benedict - so delicious. They also had a nice oatmeal station with lovely fix-ins, oh and blueberry pancakes. Brunch was reasonably priced compared to other places, and I actually think we probably preferred the brunch over just ordering breakfast items from the menu. The pool was down for maintenance while we were there and the hotel offered access to a pool at a neighboring hotel, which we didn't end up taking advantage of, but it was considerate to have an alternative option. We did go down and check out the pool and workout room area, i think we would have liked the pool if we had used it. The hotel is about a 10 min walk to Downtown and it was nice to be walking and enjoying the panoramic views. They offer heated underground parking for a $15/day while you stay, and even give a complimentary windshield wash, which is super handy with mountain weather. Oh yes, the lobby is lovely and we stopped and had complimentary hot apple cider one afternoon, which was pretty sweet. read more

Stayed third week of September 2020 during COVID-19. Reception staff was friendly and responsive. Mask wearing compliance was high indoors and outdoors because of city bylaw at the time. Hotel lobby/areas and room was clean. Room was contemporary and king bed was good. No housekeeping during the length of stay due to the pandemic which I prefer for the safety of myself and others. Phoning front desk for extra towels and toiletries was brought up very quickly. I was happy with the location on the main strip. Secured (gated) at daily rate parking. Expectations shattered! We stayed for one night recently. The venue itself is beautiful and will make you feel right at home in the mountains as soon as you walk into the the reception area. Rooms are generously sized (albeit we did get upgraded to a suite) and the bathrooms are large as well. Bed was superb, shower pressure was amazing and the hot water supply was good as well. Parking is extra but readily available in the private garage. Would absolutely stay here again upon a return trip to Banff. read more

So its my one year anniversary with my husband. We thought we would go away for the weekend to celebrate. So I booked a room with Hotwire for a 4 star hotel, the before price listed at $229, available for $158. So I booked the room, purchased travel insurance, as that seemed like a decent deal. After I purchased this, it was revealed that it was the Delta Royal Canadian Lodge. So I went online and looked at the rooms available at the Delta to try and see what kind of room I was getting. The standard room was listed at the delta for the same days at $181, and the premier room was at $229. So naturally I thought that I would be in the premier room. So I call Hotwire to confirm the room they have booked me in. I am told it is the standard room. This is what they have told me in an email what their policy is. " Hot Rates are booked based on the star rating, neighborhood and other details and so the crossed out rate we show before booking is an example based on published rates for similar hotels. The slashed out rate is not indicative of the specific hotel's published rates. The savings are based on median published rate we've found on leading retail travel sites in the last 24-48 hours for the same neighborhood, star rating, and stay dates. Rates change regularly in the travel industry and we regularly check rates on other travel sites to ensure you are getting a great deal, backed by our Low Price Guarantee." When I researched around a bit more, I compared prices on 4 star hotels in Banff on other websites, along with regular prices at 4 star hotels. The most expensive room I could find was listed at 180 a night for that time frame that I was booking. So after I have called Hotwire, they have told me they cannot upgrade me to a better room that its up to The Delta to do that. I called The Delta, they are telling me that it is up to Hotwire to upgrade the room. So then I thought oh to heck with it, I purchased cancellation insurance. So I call the insurance company, they will not refund it for that given reason. It needs to be medical, provided by a examination, a terrorist attack, a death in the family, or the company going bankrupt. So all of this means I could have gone to a different hotel paid the same price and gotten a way better room. I think this defeats the purpose of buying with out knowing the hotel. I will now never ever book with Delta or Hotwire EVER again. I was really disappointed that Delta refused to accept any responsibility in this or attempt to rectify the situation. This is poor advertising on their part. I feel it is a direct reflection of their own policies and customer service. read more

I picked this hotel based partly on their website and partly because of yelp reviews. Per usual the yelp reviews were pretty spot on. The service was great, our room was comfortable with a nice view. We swam in the pool and hot tub which was a nice break from the cold. We also got massages from Kelly that were great. I took a star away because I didn't try the food there and I thought the pictures on the website were a little deceiving and made everything look a lot bigger then it actually was. The Delta Banff Royal Canadian Lodge is generally our go to hotel when we stay in Banff. We stayed in a premier room with a fireplace and two queen beds. The rooms are a good size but have some awkward aspects to them (I'm not sure why the closet is in the bathroom?). The decor in the room is a bit dated but I find that is generally the case in Banff (although a bit surprising since it is one of the newer hotels in Banff I believe). The service is very good. Everyone is very friendly - lots of hellos or welcome backs when you walk in the door. Or maybe I'm just in a good mood as there are delicious chocolate chip cookies for everyone in the lobby. It's a quick and easy 10 minute walk to the main part of the town with restaurants, shopping, etc. Wifi is free. But expect to pay $15 for the underground parking. I don't mind paying but if you're price shopping make sure you consider that. The only downside is that there isn't much in terms of views of the mountains from the hotel. Not the hotels fault but it is a draw back. Lots of views once you walk outside of course! Overall well recommended. read more

I'm a little conflicted between 3 stars and 4, overall I'd probably give it a 3.5. The service was very good and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is also very convenient, just a few minutes to walk to down town. The pool area is very nice, and has a sauna too. The room was clean, and the beds were pretty comfortable. They also allowed us early check in and late check out, which was very nice. However, the fitness room is very small, probably about the size of the hotel room. The decor is very dated in both the rooms and the halls. There was a (very small) fridge in our room, but no microwave. We called the front desk to see if there was another microwave we could use to warm up our leftovers, but were told there were no microwaves in the whole hotel. We also had some trouble connecting to the wifi, but once we were connected it worked well. They also charged us $25 for "extra" people (three of us, one minor, in a room with two queen sized beds). Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but way overpriced for what you are getting. I think there are nicer hotels for a similar price. read more

It was a business trip (conference at the hotel), and overall a pleasant stay. The personnel was very friendly and helpful. The front desk personnel (except for one) were very accommodating and helpful (especially Vanessa from Australia, who managed to arrange a different room with the view that I enjoyed). The rooms (despite somewhat strange layouts: the closet is inside the bathroom) are comfortable, spacious, and have large screen LCD TVs (I enjoyed French Open). My room (and assume all they) had an electric tea kettle (in addition to a standard coffee maker). To my surprise, it didn't have the automatic cut-off switch, but only a whistle notifying you when it's boiling. I did not think such are still produced. There is a small fridge hidden inside the cabinets, under TV. The hotel is about 10-15-minute easy walk (along the main street) from the center of the town/shopping area. Parking is $15 per night. This price might make sense during the high skiing season. However, there was plenty of street parking on the back street, within 1 block, in early June. The shortcomings are: 1) Unreliable and low-bandwidth Wi-Fi connection (albeit free). 2) We had a special conference rate. The online reservation system was accepting it but was not able to complete the reservation at the very last step (confirmation). The website was just suggesting to try again later and not informing about the fact that is wouldn't be possible to do it online. After trying to do it several time over about a week period, I made via the phone. When I mentioned this to the front desk during the stay, the person told me that it's a known problem that special rate reservations cannot be made online, and that they are working on the website. To me, that sounded like a bogus explanation. 3) I confirmed that as a member of Delta Privilege, I could check out at 3pm instead of 11am. However, my electronic key did not work at 12:30pm, and I had to run back to the front desk to reactivate it at the moment when I had very limited time. That same front desk person reactivated the key, but said that "the electronic system doesn't know about extended checkout", as if it is a standard situation and doesn't constitute a problem at all. That was even more annoying than the fact that I had to run back and forth. 4) In the end, the bill had $9x3days=$27 additional charge: "service fee" that was not quoted during the original reservation (or even check-in). When I asked about that at the front desk during the check-out, they told me that that service fee is added to all special event (like conferences) visitors, "for the concierge, front desk and functions [breakfast and coffee breaks] services". I don't appreciate when expensive hotels nickle-and-dime you. But even more so, I hate when I don't know about all those sneaky charges upfront. The same person told me that it was the responsibility of the conference organizers to convey this information as opposed to the reservation system showing it during the reservation. This same front desk person who insisted on these three weird answers [(2), (3) and (4)] is the main reason (in combination with (5) below) why I reduced the rating for the service to 4/5. 5) During the meals/coffee breaks, there were some idiosyncrasies. E.g. during one of the lunches, I saw a staff person adding soup to the big serving bowl. I pointed out that there were no more bowls left for people to get that soup. He told me that yes, they are short on bowls, and it stopped there. A few times we had to ask the staff for silverware that was not put out in sufficient quantities during breakfasts, or for completely missing cheese knives for serving brie cheese during the reception. 6) The projection screen in the meeting room goes all the way to the floor, and the bottom of it is obscured for people who are not in the front raw. The projector that I believe was provided by the resort was rather old, dim and with low resolution. 7) The elevators can be slow, so that I was tempted to use stairs, but the location of the stairs is not obvious, and I didn't notice any pointers to the staircase. Maybe it's just me. 8) There are very few power outlets available, and none of them are by the night-desks. So, you cannot charge your phone and have it next to your bed or use your laptop in the bed while its charging. The only accessible power outlet in the room was in the corner of the room, at some distance from the desk. Two more outlets were in the bathroom. The reason for reducing the value to 3/5 is that I think that this hotel is overpriced. So, that is "value for the money". The overall hotel value is "good". Thanks to the conference negotiated fees, it was an acceptable (but far from inexpensive) rate, while the regular online rates are 50-100% higher. Unless you have a romantic trip, on a corporate account, or just prioritize the luxury, I wouldn't pay that much. The rooms are spacious, which is a plus if you are with a family. read more

The restaurant, which we attended for a few breakfasts, had good food but the servers were vlearly under trained and lacked supervision. I love the Delta. This is our go-to hotel when in Banff. It is a decently priced, comfortable and clean hotel. We always get a suite to enjoy the extra space and the jetted tub. Everything is very clean and orderly and the staff are wonderful! We were there for four nights during our last stay and the concierge we saw most often, Aaron, obviously enjoyed his job and chatting with guests. Even when busy, he was still very congenial to everyone. He had a great way of keeping everyone informed as to when they would be up next for a taxi, car park, etc. The pool and hot tub area is very clean with great atmosphere. It really is a nice place to unwind after a day of hiking, shopping, skiing, etc. The Evergreen is conveniently located in the hotel and will do room service from 6:30AM to 10:00 PM...perfect if you need a little snack before your later dinner reservation or breakfast in bed for the morning after when you just want a bit more privacy before starting your day. Hotel was very nice .... $15 for parking seemed a little outrageous ..... On check in we found the staff very friendly and helpful offering suggestions on where to eat .....Breakfast could have been better .... Pancakes from the buffet were so tough I could not cut them with a fork, waiting staff unsanitary as she was handling food in the buffet line....waitress put her hand in the toast bin looking for whole wheat toast found that kind of nasty. Mentioned it to the waiter his excuse was the were busy earlier. Spoke to the hotel general manager and she was unconcerned.
