An avid runner until I was 50, two hip surgeries necessitated that I change my routine to walking and pool running. For close to 29 years, this worked for me. Approaching 80 has brought about new challenges. Recently I had to go to the foot doctor who took X-rays and told me that I have severe arthritis in my left foot. This explained much about some of the difficulties I have been having with my walking regimen. He explained that more than ever I need to be very careful with my walking shoes and explained the type of support my aging feet would need to get me another 10 years of walking the river. When I went into Marathon Sports, I felt truly welcomed and was lucky to have Nina as my sales person. She is just one of the kindest most patient sales people was ever my good fortune to meet. Not anymore! The store is organized by color and the article of clothing. Makes shopping easy if you have a specific thing youa re looking for (ex. jean skirt) or by color but I find it better to organize by size. They'll yell at you if you do not place donations exactly the way they want and do exactly what they want you to do. I have to lug an air conditioner for a friend and was about to drop it off in the store. I had to slightly tilt it because I found the friend left an identifying sticker on the AC and wanted to take it off. One staffer yelled at me because I did not have the AC in a position they wanted. I just said that I was taking off that sticker but still got grief. Instead of continuing to argue, I just walked away. I'm not encouraging you to stop shopping or donating at Goodwill. Just don't do it at this particular location. If you have to donate around the Davis Square area, I'm sure there are more deserving spots. Or just go to another Goodwill location.
