These five stars are primarily for the store manager, John Wallace. We love the chicken at Royal Farms! We've tried the chicken at several different locations and the Oxen Hill location by far has the best consistency and flavor. Unfortunately the past two visits they were out of drummies and were not in the process of cooking more - which they are supposed to have all the kinds available in the middle of the day, when we stopped by. One time is forgivable - things happen and we don't know if they had a rush before we came in. Two times is a pattern. We wrote a note to the manager, John Wallace, and he called the next day and said he would address the issue and made it right with us. I usually stop there on my way to work. They went from having over cooked dry tenders to no chicken/tenders or wedges. I would go around 3/30a. Even when it's crowed from the Casino/MGM let-let, there is still no chicken and the guy/cook is quick to let you know that there's no chicken. After a few stops on this trip we needed to make a pit stop, and since we had time to spare we ended up coming here. We were in dire need of facilities and looking for a gas station that offered such without it being a bit too sketchy. We pulled in here and made our way inside. But not before being badgered by a panhandler outside. Once inside you get hit by that grease wall. I know Royal Farms is known for their chicken, but to come in here for a simple task and leave smelling like grease is not ideal. Especially when you have meetings to get to. Then the lines in here for the register is just way too long. There are self checkout registers to use, but a lot of the customers were in need of items you cannot purchase on the self checkout. With one register open, it did not make for a speedy transaction. The lot is a bit confusing to navigate. Entering is easier than leaving. I suggest going to the furthest end of the lot and exiting there, gives you more room to get to the intersection. read more

Sadly, I can no longer recommend this Royal Farms. Since they opened the quality of the chicken has gone downhill. On my last visit and I mean last visit, the chicken and the fries tasted and smelled like old cooking oil. I should have known better, when I smelled the oil, but I was home and hungry, so I ate one thigh, big mistake, lets say I was quickly reminded just how bad food poisoning is. There has to be some secret ingredient in the seasoning of the breading because I swear I was full but the chicken kept calling me to eat more, eat more, eat all of me!!!! Then those wedges!!!!!! This is my first time ordering online for pickup. I was shocked to see that the food is left on a rack that is open to the general public to come in pick the food up off the rack and walk away. The food is not in a secure area where the customer can provide a code or ID to prove its their order. OMG this practice is very dangerous, unsafe and unsanitary. The food can be sprinkled with drugs and lord knows what else. I will never order online for pickup again from this store, also based on the temperature of the chicken I can tell it was sitting there awhile even though the store gives a time on the receipt for when the chicken will be ready. Lets talk about how this gas place is kind of ghetto-ish: 1) the gas pump at #12 stopped pumping by itself when the person adjacent from me is pumping same gas to his car. Customer Associate said that the gas tank reservoir usually means it is running out. 2) someone does not check if the keypads are working and properly maintained at the pump...it is an issue. 3) if the pump is running out of gas, who checks it? I am disappointed because I do not see anybody tracking these things down. It's been 5 years since i live in MD, and something needs to improve with this place. Or, be bought out :) Also, their restaurant area needs to have the ventilation fix because you will smell like fried chicken when you come out. About a 2-2.5: Royal Farms is a chain of gas stations and a quick-stop for sandwiches/deli that has been around since '59. They're known for their famous fried chicken, as it's always prepared with fresh chicken and it's pressure-cooked. This particular location close to the National Harbor/Tanger Outlets, recently opened, and they had a grand opening special of a free cup of coffee. Once you enter, there are mini electronic kiosks in front of the open kitchen; we opted for 1 thigh, 1 drumstick, a side of mashed potatoes and gravy, and an order of their Western fries (potato wedges). The receipt gets printed out, and you need to get in the check-out line to pay the cashier before you pick up the food. The fries could have been more hot and crispy, but the chicken, fortunately, were right out of the pressure cooker! Great with the hot sauce packets available. There were just way too many people in there - the kitchen staff seemed to get extremely overwhelmed, and I was a little concerned that some only had 1 disposable glove on while handling the food. There was definitely some cross-contamination going on with the wiping of the sweat and the handling of the food items. Because of the free coffee offer, the coffee dispensers and the area where you can get milk/cream/sugar was such a mess - spills and caps not put back on the bottles, you're better off just bypassing the freebie! I feel as if they can expand their beverage selections, as I didn't see most of my favorites in there (such as the Arizona drinks). Hopefully, they'll continue to add more. This location is terribly understaffed and under-managed. There was trash everywhere on the floor inside. The trash cans were full outside so that caused trash to be blown all over the parking lot. The bathroom was terrible. One urinal was FILLED with urine while the other was covered in plastic. The toilets were both stopped up. The coolers were empty. This seems to be intentionally kept this way. Please do something about this. I will be reporting to the health department and BBB. read more

I couldn't wait to try the chicken at this location because I have visited several Royal Farm stores in the Baltimore area...service and food are always superb. I ordered a 8 piece and wedges family meal at this new National Harbor store in Oxon Hill, MD on 1/14/2019. When I got home, all of my chicken (not one or two pieces) but all were undercooked and the thighs and breast were well undercooked. I had to reheat ALL of the chicken in the oven for an hour to cook it thoroughly. I didn't even bother to contact the store because the staff didn't even seem like they could comprehend what I would convey to them. The sandwich maker was disrespectful to a Spanish speaking customer because she couldn't comprehend what she was saying and said it wasn't her issue. It's a new store and I understand this, but the basic service was subpar. I contacted corporate this morning and received a call within 5 minutes from Lucy (540-300-0576) and I expressed my dissatisfaction about the food and the customer service. Lucy has made it right by offering me a replacement meal. This store will more than likely do well because of the location but unless they change their customer service and take the proper time cooking the food, it will never rate as well as the other stores. Royally pissed! Its the worse when you get your food home and it isnt good or its wrong; especially when you are starving! I have tried repeatedly to give this location a chance, the staff clearly doesn't care. I will admit I do go in in an attempt to order wedges, but cross contamination in any situation is not acceptable. I am pescatarian and have informed the staff of this but they continue giving me wedges in a box covered in chicken grease and chicken skin residue and often times with a piece of chicken broken off in my container. When I brought it to the staff member's attention that was boxing the food the gentleman told me the 1st time that me being pescatarian "had nothing to do with him". The 2nd time I reminded him and he said "ma'am I never said that I didn't care that's not like me", but this evening as I went for an order of wedges the same situation occurred only this time the employee had an audience and was laughing uncontrollably as I was handed a box with yet again covered in chicken grease; so I just left. Redemptive experience We ventured back to RF, as it was better than alternatives. While we were not greeted by anyone, the food took less than 5 minutes to come out. So my brother stop me from going to one place to get chicken to bring me to this place. The Royal Farms. First impression was I did not want to stop at the store because it was so busy. I haven't been to a gas station that did not have any open parking spaces in a very long time. Anyway I felt very comfortable inside although I was very alert. The chicken looked really good From a distance but that wasn't the case. Cooks dropped the ball and just totally disregarded one of my orders so I had to wait an additional 10 minutes at least. It was very crowded inside so I already wasn't liking that. I did like the store self- check out and the cashier was nice even thou she accidentally threw away my tickets to pick my chicken up. Anyway the chicken was nice and crispy how I like it and the batter was good too......the chicken was not thou. I did not like it. That was probably the first time that I remember thirsting away chicken.......Most times it's either average or really good. The fries to me were horrible. I just can't figure out how you mess up potato skin fries..... I would all so question how often they change their grease for the chicken and fries . Well, I guess I'm just a little too bougie these days, so sorry I can't eat the Royal Farms chicken. Looked inside and saw tiny legs and thighs-all of them OVER COOKED, crunchy fried. When I asked about it, the employee gave me 2 extra pieces. They were tiny, crunchy and over cooked too. I am not sure how people can say this chicken is good. It's only plus is its pressure cooked. There is no flavor or seasoning profile. I guess that's why it is salty. Gas is good. Location good and 24 7 time great. Some of the staff keep starting at the customer and dont do any work while some are busting tail but still forget gravy and cheese. Always watch them if you buy food . They skimp on gravy tubs filling them half way then charge full price. I dont know why every time i go there they forget?
