I'm not sure if Harris Teeter looks at Yelp for reviews, but I think my experience deserves one. Living in this automated world, there are limited places at a grocery store where we need human service. The deli counter is definitely one of them. I went to Harris Teeter today looking for a different shopping experience than what I do every single week. Sadly,I didn't get it. Their produce department is absolutely beautiful. All of their shelves are well stalked and organized and staff in and around the deli area is beyond my expectation. The problem is with all that staff in the deli area , there's not a single person that wants to get behind that counter and cut your deli meats. Today I waited nine minutes with all manner of deli staff walking around me, and actually ignoring me from behind the deli counter. (I'll add that its not the first time) They may have figured out that I'm a Yelp reviewer, because the "manager" came over and offered herself to help me with my deli order - which by this time was too little too late. By comparison, I went to the meat and fish counter, where the minute I walked up, somebody was right there offering assistance, telling me to ask for them if I decided that I needed any help. Far cry from being ignored just a few feet away. Suggest cutting the dead weight in the deli. Staffing looks great on paper, but not in practice. There are 3 places at a grocery store where you actually need human help, deli, meat counter and cashier. If you want 66% then this is the store for you. read more

Large and well laid out. I can't seem to go to the supermarket without spending $200, but this is one of the first times I don't feel cheated. Almost all of the products i purchased were onsale and for $210 I was able to fill my pantry. The location was clean and well stocked. I received excellent customer service from Kamani. I came in recently for some reading glasses and some water. There were not enough registers open, only one or two, but there were about six self-checkouts open. I hate self-checkout. If you forget to scan something, or if the system does not scan it, you can be accused of theft even if you didn't mean to steal anything. Always get a printed receipt and compare it two your merchandise before walking out the door. These days businesses are likely to have you arrested for theft if there is a mistake, instead of just telling you to pay for the item or leave it behind, which would be the reasonable thing to do. Walmart is notorious for falsely accusing people of theft; I don't know about other stores. Get it together and get more registers open. read more

This isn't really about the store. It's about one of their products. We purchased their store-brand hard-boiled eggs (6 per package). We opened them well before the use-by date and immediately smelled vinegar. The eggs also tasted of vinegar. I thought it was a singular problem and returned the package for a refund. About a month later, I bought these eggs again, and AGAIN they smelled and tasted of vinegar. Bottom line: Don't by Harris-Teeter brand hard-boiled eggs. read more

I have been shopping at this location since they opened. Used to be a great place to shop, but quality and service has been declining heavily over the past few years especially the del, fish and meat departments.. I used buy a roasted chicken from there every other week until I bought a few underdone, a couple with feathers and got so grossed out I cant even look at chicken in general without gagging. Couple of weeks ago I purchased pork that was rotten and stinky.Their deli is even worse, I waited 30 mins and few days later another 15 without getting help. Management either doesn't care or isn't aware. I was told by some of the employees that they are seriously understaffed, but that is not an excuse for selling rotten products. This Harris Teeter is located at the Shops at Foxchase plaza, on the western side of the lot. As other HTs, they have a pharmacy, a wine bar, hot bars, and carries a variety of produce, frozen foods, cheeses, breads, dairy products, and other various grocery items. Prices are pretty steep, even if you sign up for their VIC savings card. I remember paying close to $8 for grapes, and I was pretty shocked! Staff are usually friendly and quick during check-out. I find it convenient that this place is open 24 hours, especially if you need any last-minute purchases. We are longtime Express Lane customers at this HT. For years, our weekly order has included 5 gallons of nonfat HT milk. We stopped buying milk from this HT after months of gallon after gallon going bad near or before its sell-by date. (Milk should remain fresh ~1 week past its sell-by date.) We made multiple calls to no avail. HT said no one else raised any complaints. They said they would try to identify the issue. They offered us store credit. But the milk kept going bad. Today, the Express Lane team put three separate packages of moldy ravioli in our order. (See photo. Maybe check the refrigeration over there?) I can see missing the middle one. But the other two? Or all three? HT's Express Lane service is super-convenient. But not if we have to make separate trips to another store for milk. This Harris Teeter has everything you'd expect with a good grocery store. A deli, fresh flowers, fruit, hot prepared food (buffet type style), meat and seafood counter, pharmacy, Redbox kiosks, Amazon lockers, and of course everything from wine/beer to frozen and pantry dry goods. They also have a small self-checkout and many regular lanes. My biggest complaint is the poor attitude of many of the workers. Never a smile or friendly interaction. I've been shopping here for 2 years now and have yet to interact with a friendly employee. But besides that I like shopping here because they carry quality brands at competitive prices. read more

I come here out of convenience. For starters, it's beyond gross inside. This year alone, I saw a massive cockroach squished on the floor (thank you to whatever brave soul ran over it with the cart), a live mouse/rat sprinting across the aisle in front of me, and a fly buzzing around inside the deli meat case. Because of this, I never, ever get fresh food from here. I can't imagine how "alive" this place comes at night or in the food prep areas. To make things worse, the prices are brutal. Far higher than Giant or Safeway. Last week I bought some bread flour at HT for $6.49. It expired in just 6 months but I was desperate. The next day I was at Whole Foods and the same flour was $4.41 and had a longer expiration date. Since when is HT more expensive than Whole Fricken Foods? Sheesh! For my household, it's worth a longer drive for groceries. The Safeway on King St near Bradlee is better for everyday staples (not to mention significantly cheaper, esp if you use the Safeway app). I submitted an online order and asked the bakery to write "Happy birthday Quinn! I love you so much" on the cake. This is what I got... "I love you Queen." Didn't notice until I took the cake out of the box to put candles on it. I could understand someone mishearing something if the order was placed over the phone, but this was clear as day in typed text ... The prepared foods section is always on point -- seriously try the pizza. And they have a hoagie station (yes I'm calling it a hoagie because I'm never going to start calling them "subs") I love getting the emails on Fridays with weekend deals. I like the SELF CHECK OUT! This is my review of the Express Lane (curbside) grocery pick-up service. I have used this service several times and have had a great experience. The team is really great about calling if things are out of stock or suggesting substitutions. The actual pick-up process is well executed with no contact. A special shoutout to April. She was the staff member that helped me with my first few orders. I wasn't familiar with their procedures, but she was very patient, friendly, and went above and beyond. Way beck in the pre Amazon days, you could find certain Whole Foods or a TJs with customer service this good, but that was long ago. I love the people here! Everytime I shop here someone does something that makes me feel valued and special as a customer. Great beer selection, seafood, produce, dairy. and meats. But the star of the show is the pharmacy! I started shopping HT when I got fed up with Gant not enforcing masks and the lousy service I got at the pharmacy. So I tied this store and it is now my favorite! You can't go wrong with the Harry Teet (tee hee) I used to avoid this place as my dad used to shop here and he's a brand snob sometimes, so I just assumed it was too pricey and rich for my blood, but I finally gave it a shot...now I'm a regular. This location is great because they're like a mini Wegman's. They have gourmet items, a hot bar, pizza bar, delicious desserts, and fresh sushi! It definitely isn't the spot for getting sweet deals, but if you live in the area and need to grocery shop, this is the place! This Harris Teeters has turned Rachet (GHETTO). I was checking out and trying to pay and there was an issue with the machine taking my payment. The Teller did not help me at all. I asked him what was going on and he said I don't know. I said this has happened before and they figured it out. He actually said NAW to me three times. I said okay, since you refuse to help me, I guess I will change the payment method. I finally check out and the guy behind me gets real close as I'm putting my receipt in my wallet. All of a sudden he gets real nasty with me and starts using foul language and tells me to meet him outside. The security walks up and tried to calm this moron down. He actually threatened me and said he would meet me outside. I go outside waiting for him and the security guard follows me out, and says, you were right. I asked him why he did not confront the low IQ Mongrel and he just shrugged his shoulders. Thats what this Harris Teeters is like now. Poor Service and you get Threatened with Violence by other patrons and nothing gets done about it. Having a low level Security Guard tells you everything you need to know. Nearest open grocery story on New Year's Day! They were fully stocked when I went in the evening and it was pretty crowded, likely cause they were one of the only places open that night. I don't usually shop at Harris Teeter but everything I needed was easy to find and I was impressed by the cleanliness and organization at first glance. They didn't have many check out lanes open (understandably on the holiday) but the cashier who rang me up was very polite and patient with me as I scrambled for my wallet. He wished me a happy New Years and though it was a small gesture it felt very sweet of him to spread holiday cheer on a shift most people i'm sure wouldn't have wanted to work during. This Harris Teeter had become my home for neighborhood grocery shopping, such that going to the nearby Giant or (especially) the Safeway on South Van Dorn feels like a terrible downgrade. The first thing I look for is a good fruit and veg selection, and this HT is great in this arena. They also have a healthy-sized organic section with produce and things like tofurkey and tofu. If they are out of something, Vernon in produce can usually tell you when it will be restocked. There is a nice selection of pre-cut fruit at prices that aren't extortionate, and they have a cooler of drinks like Naked Juice and Pom Juice that is very Whole Foodsesque. In addition to having a wide general food selection, there's also a good bakery (not quite Publix but the best in our region, probably), and they sometimes have wine and/or cheese samples. Speaking of which, they have a commendable selection of wines and cheeses, and the wine is sorted by type AND region, which is perfect. I have to say their hot bar is way lacking--the selection isn't great at all, and the food doesn't always look terribly fresh. But when I want a week of ready-to-go meals, I go to WF anyway. And over the past few months, the onions and garlic have gotten rough. That said, this is still far and away the best grocery option around. Once, I bought a box of blueberries and when I got home, I realized that they were half moldy. I took them right back to HT and the customer service lady immediately said, "Oh no, we can't have that. Please go and get some more." I got fresh blueberries with no hassle or need to fumble with receipts. That's how customer service is supposed to work. If you have a random sauce or marinade that you use, this HT has a ridiculously wide selection on aisle one. All kinds of stuff there. The checkout is the one area where I usually know I'm in for a wait. There are four self checkouts, which is helpful. The cashiers are really friendly and if you come in frequently, they will probably remember you. Kenneth, who works frozen in the back, is also really nice. I'm moving to D.C. soon, and I'm sad that this won't be my neighborhood store anymore. But not all is lost because in my new neighborhood, there's a huge HT a few blocks away! read more

This particular Harris Teeter is difficult to find items in, at least compared to the other grocery stores in the area and the other location I've been to. Still, there aren't many options for grocery shopping in this particular area, especially if you want nicer items, so you may find yourself stuck coming here. I personally would not come to this location again as a result of the negative customer service experience my father and I had in the seafood department. There was a price discrepancy as a result of a mislabeled and misplaced item tag within the seafood display on the lobsters, which resulted in a miscommunication about the prices of the lobster tails. While this isn't that important by itself, the way the workers responded to my father's questions about the pricing were very curt and unprofessional. When a manager came by, he was more polite, though quite clueless as to what the problem was, and it required me breaking out my calculator to figure out that the weighing and pricing were correct, it was their labeling which was at fault. This would have ended in the same way regardless, though it was the poor customer service that we took away from the experience. They do have a good selection of foods (especially luxury ones), and for that they deserve some kudos, though I plan on avoiding this place if possible. In a world of supply and not much demand, service is what sets a business apart. Sometimes this is for the better, other times not so much. Their weekly ad said they were selling shrimp for 13.99/lb, and I was charged 17.99 plus "tare weight" for a pound of shrimp for a total cost of 19.43. that is NOT 14/lb. Next, their ad for this week said SCALLOPS were available 13.99/b. When I went to the store, ALL they had was scallops for $18/lb and claimed to know NOTHING about the ad for $13/lb. I was redirected to the frozen section where frozen scallops were available for $60/2 lbs. This store is SCAMMING people with FAKE sales ads and "bait and switch" schemes. Go SOMEWHERE else please. I live within walking distance to this grocer which happens to be literally across the street from Aldi- so I come out of necessity most days. Their stock is alright, prices are high, but it's pretty standard and clean and consistent. I've never had issues with the staff, I will say that their seafood does seem lacking- just this morning I went in before work to grab something quick for work- sliced salmon and some veggies- however the breakfast bar was pretty much closed at 815, (thought it stayed open till 830), the smoked salmon they had pre sliced in containers was relabeled. Essentially they were selling smoked salmon placed out on 10/8 for reduced price for today 10/11. WHAT?! that does NOT seem healthy AT ALL. And I wish HT would do better, especially for the prices. What else I noticed that really disappointed me: someone left the soups in a basket next to the hot bar. You know, where they usually place their daily delectable choices of soup? Well, they were in BAGS- PLASTIC BAGS- like the kind shitty restaurants use to cut costs. I couldn't believe my eyes. I'm not sure what I expected, but I didn't expect THAT kind of abomination. That really turned me off from ever eating their soup again- and to be honest I'm not sure if I'll be eating their seafood OR meats again either considering other reviews.
