Horchata was typical convenience store fare. Bugles were typical bugles with slightly different flavoring, sandwich was fine except they didn't have the spicy part to add to the tuna. There seemed to be flies near the cappuccino machine but I got a drink anyway lol. Probably could use a better cleaning in the hot beverages drinks area. Workers here work very hard. I walk in im blasted with cigarettes and mildue. There are lottery machines inside and people kept using them and losing all their money to which they screamed and threw thing. Everything in there was expensive and someone was smokeing in the restroom making for a less than optimal experience. This place is near me, but usually I don't go here, and I usually remember why I don't go once my memory is refreshed. This was going to be 1 star, but the food was good and I got in and out of here fast. The ticket machine which prints receipts was down. I put order in and heard the broken noise. No one said anything. I asked chicken counter person how I get a receipt with the machine down, and he said to say ticket number at counter. I guess the manager to too busy to fix the machine, and no one really cared? They must have known the receipts machine was down. Maybe no one knew how to fix it? I get to the counter, where woman was on her cell phone. But she pivoted and rang me out. The counter was filthy. Usually, I don't notice stuff like that. I asked for a bag. You have to get your own bag. I imagine this is probably a decent morning coffee stop and convenient gas location off the highway, but it is not a place I like visiting much. The food is fine. I want to like this chain because I hate Wawa, but they are just as much of a disappointment food wise as Wawa in my humble opinion. In comparison Royal Farm employees seem way more disgruntled and less personable. The store always seems to be missing a lot of items, low stocked and dirty. On my recent visit I had an atomic chicken sandwich. I wanted to try their advertised Royal Chicken Sandwich, but sadly I couldn't find it at all on their touchscreen. Why is it not the first item you see when you start an order? Back to my atomic chicken, It's a grilled chicken sandwich with banana peppers, jalapenos and sriracha hot sauce on a bun. The chicken itself lacked flavor and I wouldn't call it atomic, although my wife always tells me hot to me is deathly to a normal person. It was just a weak sandwich to me. This Royal Farms is my go to gas station when I'm in the area. There are a ton of pumps and I never have to wait in line. Too often, I head into the store after pumping my gas to get a snack. Their slurpee machine is sometimes not operational or they do not have proper lids/straws which is why I knocked them down one star. The chicken is to die for. At first I was a bit wary about eating gas station chicken, but one taste and I realized that I need to get over it and just eat this chicken. I always order the 10 piece dark meat so I can't speak for other meals. The workers here are sometimes slow to make your order but it's something you have to deal with to get some really good chicken. read more

OMG, filthy, disgusting. Trash (and worse) all over the floors, stalls, sinks. No paper towels or way to dry hands. A gallon container of hand soap sitting on sink/counter, I guess that was for everyone to use. Imagine the germs on the handle. I've been purchasing from this location for over a year. I get 4 large western fries with cheese every time I visit which is at least 2 times a week. I've always asked the associate on duty to put old bay seasoning on the fries and have never had a problem. Recently they have a new manager/associate (Victoria) who has one of the nastiest attitudes I've ever encountered. She insists I must pay for the old bay seasoning and when told that no one ever told me to pay, she rolls her eyes and then goes back and forth with you totally disrespectful. For over a year no one has ever suggested that I pay for the old bay seasoning,they just sprinkle a little on the fries and tell you to have a nice day. Since Royal Farms is trying to get some of Wawa's business, let's get right to the direct comparison. Wawa does some things better. The selection of dairy items at Wawa is better. Wawa iced tea is far better than the Cloverland tea offered here. The deli counter appears to be more efficiently run at Wawa. The general selection of groceries at Wawa appears to be better. They have soup on the menu where I did not see that at Royal Farms. There are things they do equally well. Royal Farms coffee is equally as good and plentiful as Wawa. The selection of drinks and the food counter both have significant variety. Royal Farms has a significant baked goods selection like Wawa. The gas pumps are wide and well lit like Wawa. Both offer free ATM and generally clean restrooms. Both have effective kiosk ordering. This Royal Farms has a few advantages. The fried chicken is quite simply excellent. It is worth the trip alone. They seem to offer a few more fresh hot breakfast items. They serve cheeseburgers. They have seating in the store to eat in. Parking is more plentiful. Royal Farms gets the 4 stars on coffee and chicken quality alone. That's all they need to win me over. read more

Oh boy Wawa, I think you met your competition ! A competitor to give you a run for your money, with better options than Wawa. I am saying Wawa because 7-11 is just flat out horrible, so Wawa never had any competition. Well here it is Wawa , your competitor Royal Farms, and they are slightly winning. Bigger, more options than a sandwich, better coffee, and you can sit down and eat. Oh and yea, they have fried chicken, that I tried. I'll start with the most important thing you need to know about this place...they have Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee! If you look on the coffee jugs you can see the Rainforest Alliance seal on the coffee that is certified. Beyond that, they've got a ton of stuff. They have a donut container, and plenty of fruit, yogurt, salads, and sandwiches to-go. I suppose they're most popular for their fried chicken, but I have to say that I was not at all impressed with it. To me, the skin wasn't crunchy, it all peeled right off the chicken, and the meat was borderline slimey. After having to wait for 20 minutes to get the damn chicken, I was let down. I won't hate on the staff yet, though - it's still really early since they opened and it takes time to work out the kinks. I can't blame them for the wait. Hopefully they'll improve their process with time. Anyway, they have a very large selection of ice cream (Dove, Ben & Jerry's, Haagen Dazs), chips, sodas, juices, candy, etc. They've really got it all. There is outdoor seating and a large parking lot, along with tons of gas pumps. I'm quite happy to have this addition. I like that they have chicken sandwiches. Those were pretty good for something that was sitting in a heated shelf. I am not sure if they have a chicken breakfast sandwich like Chick-fil-a does, but I'd be interested in trying that. I didn't particularly like the coffee, Wawa's coffee is definitely better. I usually stop for gas and not for food but this time I saw Royal Farms had a $1.99 milkshake, similar to the Wawa special last month. I figured I'd give it a try. The Royal Farms vanilla milkshake was, possibly, the worst shake I have ever had in my 55+ years. Unfortunately I didn't watch the process in which they made it, but I believe, for some reason, it included crushed ice. The shake had almost no flavor what so ever. There was no sweetness, no vanilla flavor. It was more like a milk slushie. It was thick but the texture was that of an icee. There were ice crystals in the drink. If you want a milkshake, please do yourself a favor and go across the street to Wendy's, or drive the additional block to the Wawa and order theirs. You will be much happier. read more

So I barely ever go to Royal farms because its a little far but tonight I was craving the fries so I drive 15 mins to get there and no fries. I asked when would.thee be fresh ones and he opened the fryer and says well they messed these up bad I can drop some. Nobody has time to wait for a small order of fries that are already supposed to be done. I worked at Royal farms long ago but the have timers on their machines. HOW DO YOU STILL BURN THEM? Then I settle for spicey only for them to be so chewy I couldn't eat them. The chicken now days is a a toss up (another thing that is made a specific way and timed) it just dont make sense for this store to always be so crappy with the food. It shouldn't be 3/10 percent change the food is good. Especially when like I said they have timbers and specific directions on the things they make and then when you show concern they don't try to make it better. They just don't care...I recommend driving further to the next one because it's a 30 70 change you won't be happy with the order IF you even get to place it due to food not being done. Any chance I get to stop at Royal Farms I do. I live in Wawa land so there aren't many of them around. Today I stopped in for a quick bite while in the area. I've never had a complaint with this location until today. I ordered the buffalo chicken slider and a 2pc meal. First the slider. While the roll was very good the chicken itself was drowning in sauce. I watched the lady dip the tenders into a bucket of sauce. Way too much! The meal was equally as bad. First time visiting Royal Farms. I'm used to Wawa and Sheetz, so I was curious what Royal Farms had to offer. The store itself was very clean and the staff was friendly. The only issue I had was that the workers was understaffed, so my made-to-order sandwich took over 20 minutes with only two orders in front of mine. If they were staffed appropriately for a busy Saturday afternoon, it would have been a great experience. Since everyone raves about the fried chicken, I got a sandwich on a sub. So, round 3 of the Royal Farms Vs Wawa battle is Breakfast. First, let me say that I was if the opinion that Wawa has the best and least hassle breakfast sandwich around. It's a good sandwich with a great variety (sausage croissant is tops) for a good price and I don't have to order it. It's just there. I've already said that RF's coffee is better than Wawa, so it wins on that front. I was worried Id have to wait for a sandwich here, or worse...have to talk to someone but my fears were immediately dispelled when I walked in. They have a nice heated rack, chock full of breakfast options to grab and go. I felt like I should get the sausage croissant, to compare, but I was seriously swayed by the alternate options of chicken sliders and a chicken biscuit. Actually, a chicken biscuit sounds fantastic at any time of day, so I'll be going back for that ASAP . I also grabbed a Hashbrown, just to see how it stacked up. I don't like Wawa's. I think it's hard to do a premade Hashbrown, so I'm not mad at Wawa. Even my favorite at McD's has a shelf life of about 2 minutes. I have to say that RFs was decent. Somehow managed to stay crisp at who knows how old. It's not a game changer though. The sandwich however, is. Yep, sorry Wawa but RF wins breakfast. Most of the elements are the same. Croissant, sausage, cheese, but it's the egg that pushes this above anywhere else. Anyone who eats fast food breakfast sandwiches knows what I mean when I say "sponge eggs". The only thing Wawa has going for it is when they have their 2 for $3 deal but my arteries really can't take much more of that plus I don't know RF enough to know if they do a similar deal. Every single time I've been to this location my order has been COLD, there's always a line whether they're busy or not, and the attitude of half the employees is garbage. There's a few good employees don't get me wrong, but far and few. If this wasn't the only place nearby and open when I get done work I would never eat here. So, am I to believe that nobody in the Ridley Park area has ever had good fried chicken before? We finally tried Royal Farms because of all of the hype about this chicken, and it was okay. It's really not any different than the chicken at Acme or Pathmark; slightly more convenient than going into the grocery store, but that's really the main difference. The potato wedges were the best part of the meal, and even they weren't the best ones I've ever had. None of the hot food was very hot or fresh, everything was room temperature at best. I only ordered chicken, wedges, and a small mac and cheese so I can only vouch for how those items tasted. The mac and cheese wasn't anything to write home about, and to keep the RF/Wawa debate going, I chose Wawa. The bf ordered a small potato salad and took one bite and made a face that said it was not good at all. The store setup is a little confusing and could definitely use some more signage. When waiting for our order, we were rudely directed to pick our own cold sides from below the counter where the chicken was packed. If that's the case, why did we have to order it on the screen? Maybe that's just part of being used to how Wawa does things? The most positive thing noted about Royal Farms was that the receipt printed from the order screen has a price on it, Wawa's does not. If I have to choose between RF and Wawa, I choose Wawa. Maybe it's just from being from the area and having the luxury of a Wawa being so close no matter where I go, but the selection and experience is just better.
