Temperatures were up to 100 degrees these days and extremely uncomfortable for us including for our two year Granddaughter, especially at nap time. I want to alert the public to the unscrupulous actions of this Lakewood-based company…read more A year ago a serviceman from Walrath Heating and Air Conditioning alerted me that my 20 year-old furnace was on its last leg. He suggested that I plan to save $6000 to $7000 for a new one this fall. In November I met with a Walrath salesperson who evaluated where the furnace was located in my crawl space and advised that the price would be $8000. Two days later his written proposal came in at $10,000. When I asked him about the difference, he said that he had forgotten to add in how labor intensive my particular installation would be. He was certain it would go into a second day. I took him at his word. It took the workmen less than 6 hours to complete the job. The salesman and head of the company - now called Walrath Mechanical - refuse to talk to me about the $2000 extra I was charged for labor that was not required. This is a scam. I have since noted on Yelp that I am not the only reviewer of Walrath who trusted a grossly inflated bid. These guys are crooks. Homeowners like me and managers of commercial properties may have once appreciated this small company. Don't be fooled - they no longer care about you.

I had a lengthy conversation with the owner Jared who actually had the nerve to say that well sometimes they will miss some spots. (See my photos and decide if that was "some spots.") Jared actually had the nerve to attempt to discredit our new Hvac company who is very reputable in the industry and around town when our AC went out completely after only being in our new home for 1 month by saying that we didn't need to replace the condenser like our new HVAC company had strongly suggested and another HVAC co that came out also said was necessary. The funny part about it was Jared had actually never been out to our house to even assess the broken down condenser and broken furnace part that our HVAC company said needed more than just repairs. Jared simply wanted to do a mickey mouse patch work job and then have us call him back in a year when the condenser and furnace would fail again because it was not replaced in the first place which would have been the proper way to handle it. Additionally, Jared became very defensive on the phone and when I asked him how can you say that the other HVAC company is wrong when you have never actually looked at our broken units? He stuttered and became silent. Very unethical company. Stay far far away. You will be sinking money trying to do little repairs that in the long run will cost you greatly.

Matt got only gave a competitive price, but was the only one familiar with the Ecobee smart thermostat that I wanted to use to control the humidifier. When I hired Matt, he was extremely prompt, super reliable, and took great care with my installation. My Ecobee thermostat required an extra wire to trigger the humidifier and Matt spent an extra two hours just fishing a wire through my house without having to cut through any walls (which I was very much trying to avoid). It turned out to be a perfect installation and I was extremely impressed with his pride of handiwork. He even refused to bill me for the extra time to fish my new wire because he wanted to stick to his original quote so I wouldn't have an unexpected cost. Plus, on top of all that, he serviced both of my furnaces for free. I don't think it's common to tip service professionals, but needless to say he earned every bit of the tip I gave to compensate for the extra time and attention to detail. Even after the installation Matt was concerned about his customer and followed up with me on how the humidifier was performing. As it turned out, my water pressure was very high and every time the humidifier cycled it would make a big knock through the house. True to character, Matt showed up and installed a device on the water line that quiets the pressure changes as well as some pipe insulation to deaden any residual noise. And then he tried not to charge me! About eight months later we ended up moving for my job and the new home buyer wanted the HVAC certified to be in good order. I reached back out to Matt and asked if he could come by and take a look to certify there were no concerns. He did a full HVAC maintenance of both units and wrote up a letter for me to share with the buyer. And again, tried to say it was no charge. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a contractor who appeared to be professional…read more Here's what happened: They performed maintenance on my 4 year old Navien Combi-boiler. Everything checked out and the system was stated to be functioning normally. BUT Dave thought the system could be better if I added a different circulation pump. He also thought the system should be re-piped. As the bid for everything was close to $5,000, I opted to replace pump for $864. Soon after the pump was replaced and that maintenance work was done, I noticed the pipes were clanging when the heat went off. They said air was in the system and wanted to replace the air vent. Before they could replace the air vent my system broke down. It took them a week to get back to fix the problem (that's right! No heat or hot water for a week!). After it got running again the clanking continued and when I called to ask why, I was dismissed and asked to "pay up". I decided to enlist another company certified be the manufacturer to give the system a closer look. You won't believe what they found! The pump they installed was the wrong size(was suited for a large commercial application) and they installed it UPSIDE DOWN! The technician also found the heat exchanger had failed and there was carbon monoxide and gas spewing from it! It had to be shut down immediately was going to cost me $4,250 to get the system repaired! I hold Cedar Creek Mechanical and Dave Sutton responsible for this but to this date there has been no effort by him to make things right. Whats more, the suggestion for the repiping was all wrong. The factory certified technician said it was wrong to move the pipes on this system the way he suggested. So here it is: This company does bad work, suggests things that don't need to be done and then claims no responsibility! I believe they are also overpriced when I compare to others. They might try to deny this, but my system was running fine. I have it in writing. I have all of the receipts. We will see what the judge thinks!

I woke to no heat and spent time on Facetime with my HVAC brother from out of state and we…read moredetermined the problem with my Carrier furnace was most likely the High Limit unit. I called Brian of Grand Home Services and told him what the problem was and he came out. He charged me $341.72 for the less than 90 seconds it took him to switch out the High Limit unit. Seriously, unscrew 2 screws, disconnect 2 cables, screw in 2 screws and plug in the 2 cables and the furnace works perfectly, less than 90 seconds to correct. $341.72 to do that. Yep. I argued that I shouldn't be charged so much money for that and he said he doesn't set the prices, the company and owner does. BS. Check the Secretary of State business listings, Brian is the owner of the company so he lied as well. And when I searched for the part online, it is a $16 part. Yep, $341.72 for 90 seconds work and a $16 part. So no, would not recommend this company and would give them 0 stars if that was possible.
