He has been the best, and fastest at responding to our calls we have ever had, and is the only one we will call when we have problems. Last month our central heater started giving out burning smells and not working well. Bill was able to come over right away, and diagnose the problem, then replace the 20 year old heater in a few days. About 5 years ago he fixed our air conditioner the same day we called. We love this guy and HIGHLY recommend him!! Bill explains the problems, and offers different solutions, which is much appreciated indeed. Spent $11,000 with this company this year 2021 purchasing and installing a new furnace and air conditioning unit. I HAVE WORKED WITH THIS SERVICE FOR OVER 10 YEARS! This has been the absolute WORST experience!!! I don't know what is going on there with Bill and Diane but they were suppose to send in my $500 rebate form. I've called and emailed asking when it was sent in and they do not respond! So I called Xcel today and they NEVER SENT IT IN!!! So they have made me lose my $500 rebate!!! Also the installation was a diseaster! Because Bill is always in such a hurry he never turned the new furnace on so that night it snowed and was frigid and I had no heat! Then when he came to check the air conditioning unit so that he could fill out the rebate form he messed up my thermostat. At certain points he/they do NOT respond when I've texted, called or email just like now. It doesn't seem to register that I've been a loyal customer for more than 10 years...in fact before Bill owned this service I used them 21 years ago for the same purpose with the previous owner. I would not recommend this company at this time as something has gone very wrong with them! My response to his response it baloney! They could have stayed as long as it took! You notice, again, there is no date as to when the rebate form was supposedly mailed because it probably wasn't! I look forward to working with a more responsible, reputable company who cares about the loyalty of their clients. After a previous great experience with Tristian maintaining my ancient furnace, I decided that I needed to add AC to my home. At the same time update to a new furnace. Bill and the office staff were very honest that 1st call is not an authorized XCEL installer, and would not be able to process xcel rebates. Referred me to Summit (see my review. Untrustworthy sales practices). I ended up going with Coffman (see my review). I truly appreciate Bill's honest & forthright approach to running this company. If I had to do it over again, I think I would have had 1st call do the job, and not bother with the xcel rebate. Experience matters in this business. They were able to locate the trouble area and resolve it in expert manner instead of trying to sell us a new furnace simply because it is over 20 years old. Extremely happy customer. Had a different company come out to look at my heater last year which wasn't heating the place well and kept shutting off. They spent 2 days looking at it and replacing parts before eventually telling me I needed to replace the whole unit. Got a second opinion from from 1st Call this year. Bill came over and fixed it, I kid you not, in less than 10 minutes. He also showed me what to look for and how to fix it myself incase it acts up again. I won't go anywhere else. Great service except for the initial repairman. A young repairman Cody was sent out initially to look at my water heater for replacement. He was unfamiliar with the somewhat-unique system (no shame in that). However, he did not communicate well with his dispatch team and I didn't receive a quote for replacement until I called. He also didn't communicate with them about my unique set-up. Also, while looking at my heat exchange in the ceiling, he dropped the panel, deforming the corner of it, and gouging out a piece of my laminate floors. That's permanent damage to my house. I had to help him put it back together. He also messed with my thermostat and re-did all of my settings. Once the confusion was cleared up by the owner Bill, they were able to replace my water heater smoothly. However, my one bad experience with the first technician has to be considered in my review. read more

A couple of years ago our furnace quit heating late on a VERY cold day. We called and Bill came promptly even though it was late in the evening. He fixed the issue, showed me how to do it myself if it ever happened again and charged us NOTHING. Air AC started acting up recently so we called them again and Bill came out promptly and added freon. He also explained to me how and why it was only a 'band-aid'. A month later it started overheating/turning off on very hot days. So we had them install a new unit. He gave us a great deal and got it done very quickly after that first call to arrange it. It was the 4th of July holiday weekend so I opted to wait until the following Tuesday instead of having emergency service from another company. Started out well, with Bill calling back quickly and providing free advice and guidance over the phone. When that didn't work Bill and another person he was training came over to for a service call. They found an improperly installed condenser that was leaking into the furnace and was rusting it. They also found issues with the AC being overcharged. They put together a temporary fix and recommended a new furnace and AC. As he was tearing into things to find the water source that was leaking through the furnace, he did tell say that he didn't know what he was going to charge for this work. That's a VERY uncomfortable feeling. They were at my place for about 90 minutes and the charge was not quite double of what I expected. He did agree to put this service charge toward the installation of the new systems, if I chose to go with them. They also provided a quote for an AC and furnace on the spot, based on estimated square footage. I recently learned that the proper way to size a AC is by a (Manual "J") room by room load analysis. I will be looking for a HVAC contractor to spend a bit more time on pre-sales with me in equipment sizing based on load analysis using the Manual "J" calculations. I really appreciate the help and friendly service that Bill provided, and on short notice. But for new equipment installation, I will be doing a some more research on HVAC installers before selecting one. read more

1st Call installed a humidifier for us last week. THE GOOD- Bill, was super knowledgeable on the humidifier and installing. He quoted a price and even though the electrical work was a lot more than they thought, he stuck to it. System seems to be working well. Their staff was friendly when they were here for the install. Bill gave me lots of pointers and was very helpful and responsive to my questions even after he left. Great customer service! No complaints! My furnace broke down on a Sunday, the night before a big snow storm. I left a voicemail on Sunday and Diane (very nice and personable) returned my call first thing Monday. The soonest availability they had was Tuesday. Andrew came out to look at my hazardous furnace (as deemed by Xcel Energy). He was very nice and informative. When my HOA had a problem with the plans for a HE furnace, Andrew came back out to my house to find a solution with Bill, the owner. They were able to install my new furnace next day, no problem. I let them inside in the morning and trusted them enough to head off to work and let them do their job. I called 1st Call after my (now former) service company (rhymes with "mittleton") quoted me $500 for a $50 part and a one screw install, with a three day wait, after charging me $184 for a "trip" fee and a "diagnoses" fee. Although I replaced the Amazon-ordered part myself, the furnace was still giving an error code. I called Amana and they said they could not decipher the code for me for "liability reasons". They subsequently gave me a phone number of an authorized dealer to call - who was out of business! Thanks Amana! I then found 1st Call on the Amana website. After getting an appointment for the same day(!), the tech arrived, checked out the furnace and told me the code was not an error code, but an indication of fan speed and volume. Thanks Amana! 1st Call did not even charge me for the trip. They were courteous and explained how the system work. I am VERY happy and will call them the next time I need help. read more

I explained to Tristan when he showed up that the system seemed fine but that he could check it and we'd pay for the time, since he made the trip. Most recently, he first walked me through a procedure to attempt a simple fix to my furnace. When that didn't work, he had me take a photo of the likely offending part and text it to him. This avoided a second visit and he came out with the replacement part in hand. Before just blindly replacing the part, he looked at other potential issues, found the root cause, and quickly fixed it - no part replacement needed! I cannot express how incredible Bill and his team are. They went absolutely above and beyond to help me out of a tricky situation with my AC. We purchased our home 4 months ago, and it came with an incredibly fancy and sophisticated Lennox HVAC. When our thermostat got damaged, the AC stopped working. Bill spent 10 hours at my home trying to solve the problem. I think most people would have given up, but he was persistent in helping a neighbor. These Lennox systems are so complicated it usually takes a specialist, so Bill and I certainly learned a lot along the way.. haha. After trying three different thermostats, we finally learned through consultants that my AC will ONLY talk to a specific thermostat, made by Lennox. Bill spent the next day driving all around Denver for me, trying to track down the much needed equipment - and finally found some very helpful people who gave us a deal! I'm happy to say Bill and his team did not give up on us, and bent over backwards when they didn't have to. I would say don't trust the negative reviews you see on here. Called 1st Call this morning. A nice lady answered the phone and took down all my info. We set the window and received a call shortly before the tech showed up. Bill, the president showed and quickly troubleshot the problem. Explained what was going on. He fixed a vacuum switch thing and got us back running in no time. Nice scheduler/staff. We rang up 1st Call to check it based on the reviews here, and Bill explained that the compressor was shot. He told us that we'd save money with a complete replacement and gave us an estimate. But he did not charge us for the visit or for checking out the unit -- he won me over with that. After calling around and confirming his was a competitive rate, we asked him to complete the job.
