I didn't see any of his old crew also making the move as I used to be a regular at his old shop. He told me most went to other shops or have retired. It was nice to see Simon at least. It took an hour to do the oil change. He called me mid job that my engine and cabin air filters needed replacing. $90 (2 filters $55 and labor $35.) I said yes as I was too lazy to do it myself. It would have have taken too much effort to buy the filters myself and install it. ($22 for the engine and $10 for the cabin filter Amazon prices.) There was a slight mishap as they charged me for a synthetic oil change whereas I only got a regular oil change. The billing mechanic (not Simon) messed up. I caught it on the receipt and they had to refund me $26. Otherwise good job everyone at Sunset 76 Auto Repair. Be sure to check your receipt.

The mechanic is nice, although don't expect to get your car back quickly; it's just him. He will give you an accurate time and price estimate, though. I love the sign that says something like CASH KEEPS GAS PRICES LOW. I love it because I refuse to be guilt-tripped into paying with cash, so I always pay with a credit card. If the place is really that concerned about the credit-card fees, it should charge less per gallon for people paying with cash. Me, I'll keep using my card and wondering how much money they spent on having the vinyl sign printed.

I just got mine done today (Jan 17, 2024) and I think pricing went up a few dollars but not by a lot. Total was $54.95 today. The guys here are usually really quick (no longer than 30 minutes) but I usually come in the mornings so I can't speak for later in the day. Today I actually had 3 other cars in front of me but it still didn't take more than 30 mins. I really appreciate the guy running the smog checks today. He was hustling, running back and fourth when he really don't need to but it's awesome to see him taking his job seriously and wanting to get customers in and out to go about their days. As soon as a customer pulls up, he grabbed a clipboard and ran over to them. When customers were on their phones while sitting in the waiting area, the employee came over to let them know it's ready instead of yelling out their names. Just little things to made it a pleasant experience. Taraval also has a few coffee shops in the area so you could also go hang out somewhere and check back in later!

About a week ago, I filled up and purchased a USB cable from them. The USB cable didn't work as a USB in my car and was off and on w charging, I literally opened the package, it didn't work so I drove around the block to bring it back (I had purchased it 5 mins before). When I told the attendant who I purchased it from that it didn't work as a USB, he told me my car was the problem and refused to refund me. I asked for his managers name and contact and he refused to tell and just kept repeating that he was the only person I could contact about it. I said "wow!" And began walking out and he just kept repeating "wow" louder and louder in a mocking way and then yelled "BITCH" at me! Like woah! This is how customers are treated here...I'll never go there again! Sadly not all the attendants are rude but that one attendant ruined it for the bunch. There's a gas station on Lawton and they are ALWAYS nice and respectful! Go there instead!
