You can request the size of the dish and the menu is extensive. I was quietly pleased at the oppotunity to try this venue unexpectedly. Drinks are at pub prices and service is pretty good. The downsides are that the prices are not based on quality or demand, just that Saturday nights are more expensive than Tuesday lunchtimes. That sucks a little. As does that if you stick to one meat, say chicken, you begin to feel that each chunk was marinated the same way and just served in a different manner. That isn't too hot.

This is about a 12 min walk from the Park and is in the ground floor of The Wellington Hotel. It showed up on an electronic, diligent search of the area but I noted that it was not yet in Yelp. Decided to take one for the team and try it for dinner so here is the review. There is a full and nicely appointed bar, front and center when you enter. They take online reservations and we're ready for my party on time. The staff are very gracious and we felt welcomed. The entrance is such that it fronts the main road and you would really not know it is a hotel-associated restaurant. It had good window views and a casual eatery vibe with prompt and helpful table service. The menu was nicely laid out with a good assortment of adult and N.A. beverages, starters, and mainstay Indian dishes that most will recognize. I really liked that price points were not stratospheric and that the servers knew the menu well and took the time to explain it without seeming to be in a rush. They were also not pushy with any upsell items and talked us through what some of their favorites were. A word to the wise is that there is a special Tiffin Box option on the menu which I glossed over but did not really consider ordering until it was explained to me. A Tiffen Box is a tiered, metallic Indian lunch box and ordering this allows you to order 3 separate items to try different things. It arrives in a Tiffen and comes with Basmati Rice, some Naan, and a Pappadam as well as 2 of their mains. The portions are smaller than ordering a la carte dishes but it really was a great way to experience their menu and I would not hesitate to order that again. The food was fantastic especially for the price point. My party had no regrets about any of what we ordered. Spice levels were appropriate but kicked up a bit from what I can get at home and the meal was quite tasty. I think that the difference is in the use of higher-quality spices. This was a real make-up the palate treat compared to what I am used to. The accompanying chutneys were profound and everyone at the table was quite happy with the shared meal. This nice addition to the neighborhood opened only recently. it was plenty busy but not line out the door crazy which made the dining experience there even more pleasant. And yes, it was casual enough that I did not feel it to be stuffy and no one scolded me about my elbows on the table! It is minutes away from the St. James's Park area and I can easily give this a very high recommendation all around. And now that I know it is there, I have a new spot to add to my area favorites when I am back in town.

Dorking is a nice little traditional market town in Surrey. So, when I saw the sign for Dorking Brasserie, I was thinking perhaps it would be a little French bistro or perhaps an English restaurant. Nope - it's an Indian! The staff do make a great effort to make you feel welcome throughout your visit though perhaps there was a slight overuse of the phrase 'my friend' whenever talking to me. I had the pbligatory popaddom while perusing the menu. The only slight disappointment of my evening came with my rather watery mango lassi, which didn't really have enough mango flavour for me. Being a litle greedy or perhaps indecisive, I had the chef's mixed starters - the plate arrived with an onion bhaji, a little kebab, a butterflied prawn and a samosa. These were lovely if a little filling. Fortunately, I had restrained myself in ordering a small curry. I settled on a mathi gosht, described as a meat curry cooked with herbs. The menu states that they're very proud that their curries are cooked from scratch with fresh herbs and you could spot these in the finished product and also taste the different layers of flavour. The meat came with lots of onion and fresh herbs in a thick, rich sauce. I left for dancing, happily fed but wondering if a curry is the most sociable thing to eat before getting close to dance partners on the dance floor!

The staff are all friendly and make an effort to be polite and informative about the food. The food is not just Indian but also Nepalese so you do not have to just have the usual curry. They have offering from a clay oven also if you would rather have something not to saucey, as in the traditional tikka masalas (which they do have on offer). It location is just the wrong side of the Crystal Palace triangle but it has been there for many years now so this has not affected it to badly. It is a nice restaurant as you can always have a conversation and actually hear the other person without shouting which I always find useful. If you want to line your stomach before hitting the bars in the Crystal Palace triangle you could do a lot worse than here. The food is reasonably priced and the portions are of a good size so you should not leave there hungry. As like most restaurants of this type puddings are not their strong point but the starters and main meals make up for this in my opinion. All in all a good restaurant which I will continue to use.

The waiter scrunched up his nose and pointed to a completeley different meal and said that was better, the Goan Curry is not soo good. - You have to laugh. Despite there not being the best service in the world, the food was great. Sometimes, you can order three different things off the menu, and they all sort of taste the same, but not here. We ended up ordering the Goan Curry (plenty of fish, but a little too anaseed for my taste- not unplesant) Sagg Allo (creamy spinach and well seasoned) and a veggie curry. The veggies were not overcooked and each sauce was lovely. Especially lovely onion bajis and nann. Not oliy and sloppy but crisp and full of flavour. They even threw in a few poppadoms while we were musing over the menu (you would be surprised how many places now charge for poppadoms - it's so frustrating). Fingers crossed the take-away is as good as the sit down otherwise *shakes fists*.
