Happy Sunday everyone. Today I am in the mood for some Chinese food. What better way is a buffet. Welcome to the Royal House Buffet located in the Wyoming Valley Mall in Wilkes-Barre Pa. Now as you can see in the video you have a lot of choices. My go to's are General Tzo's chicken, stir fried veggies, rice and lo mien. I hope you enjoy the video, be blessed and stay safe, and I'll see you all in the next video. Really nice hibachi buffet located at Wyoming Valley Mall. We stopped by for lunch as we were in the area for the day. They had all the standard buffet selections and I really liked that they had steak, chicken, and shrimp on skewers at the hibachi section... they had nice fresh sushi selections and some delicious Kani salad. They also had a nice array or desserts including a chocolate fountain. Definitely something for everyone... I would definitely return.

Royal House Buffet is located at the Wyoming Valley Mall near Macy's, with both internal and external Mall entrances. Buffet is large and modern with plenty of seating, even at lunch they were nowhere close to being full. Setup could be better as it felt crowed at the buffet, and you almost had to step over people to access some of the serving tables. Standard Chinese buffet options were good with a large selection and many western options. I personally enjoyed the Mushrooms and Pork. The salad bar was large and well stocked. Desert options included hard ice cream, fruit, and baked items. Non-standard buffet options included a dim sum bar, fresh sushi, and hibachi selections. I found the sushi to be fair for the most part, with tasty spicy options. The lunch buffet was fine for what I paid, it was less than $12 for the meal, beverage, and tip. Overall, this is a good buffet for what it offers.

So many yummy options to choose from.

I love a Chinese buffet. If there is one in a town I've stopped at while traveling, you can bet I'll go check it out. Thus I was very excited to try Royal House Buffet in Wilkes-Barre. I went on a Saturday night around 7:30 and the place was busy but this restaurant is HUGE and easily accommodated everyone. This buffet had just about every typical Chinese buffet dish you could think of plus more. It also boasted the largest selection of sushi and other East Asian cuisine I've ever seen at a Chinese buffet. The staff was attentive, always refilling my drink and clearing empty plates. I was very impressed by Royal House Buffet and I definitely plan to stop by again the next time I'm in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Seriously, it was a big deal. The casino launched without a hotel, but over the years, it expanded, adding a hotel, more restaurants, and other amenities. For those first few years, this place was hopping--run like a well-oiled machine thanks to Bobby Soper, always clean, always busy, and a solid selection of restaurants and bars to enjoy between donating to the Mohegan tribe. Fast forward to now, and wow... what a fall from grace. I stopped by a few times on a recent trip, and Mohegan PA is barely a shell of what it used to be. First glaring issue? No valet parking. Why? I'm sure they'll blame COVID, but come on--at least bring it back on weekends when the place is actually busy. Speaking of busy, unless you're here on a Friday or Saturday night, the casino is a ghost town. During the week, I could have done cartwheels through the aisles without disturbing a soul. But come Saturday? It's so packed you can't even find an open machine to play. The extremes are wild. And those slot machines... yikes. I swear this must be where all the old, retired machines from their other casinos come to spend their final days. The games are outdated, some displays have screen burn-in, and several machines have broken buttons. There are even sections where machines have just been removed, leaving empty spaces with stanchions. It looks neglected. Food & Drink? Hit or miss. The buffet? Gone--another casualty of COVID, I assume. The Irish bar? Dead every time I walked by. The food court? It felt like stepping into a deserted 90s mall--bleak and lifeless. Unless you're planning to splurge at Ruth's Chris or Rustic Kitchen, your dining options are... well, depressing. Oh, and speaking of depressing - the plants in the planters outside Ruth's Chris... they're dead. Literally. And let's talk about the center bar experience. One evening, I stopped for a quick drink before a dinner reservation, and the bar was a cluttered mess. When the bartender finally emerged, I was greeted with an uninspired "What do you need?" Clearly, she wasn't thrilled to be working, and honestly, I can't blame her given the tumbleweed-level traffic in there. After visiting, I now understand why this place is dead mid-week. Mohegan PA is nothing like its former self. Living in South Florida, I frequent the Hard Rock casinos, and let me tell you, those absolutely blow this place away--newer machines, better game variety, cleaner spaces, solid food and drink options. If Bobby Soper walked in today, he'd cry.

This is my kid's favorite 'fancy' place, so if it's not hibachi, we're here often; but don't let that fool your tastebuds. Quite possibly the best calamari this area has to offer (more than just breaded and fried, it's a nice shareable dish with roasted plum tomatoes, spinach, shaved parmesan, balsamic reduction and optional garlic aioli) and dare-I-say the ICONIC Orange Cognac salad. We did the Italian four course chef's dinner in February and rented an igloo for a friend's daughter's birthday earlier in the month. Both meals were excellent and we were able to order a variety of things to try since the chef's dinner offered some of their staple cocktails to pair, and the kiddos are adventurous in their food journey as well. Oh, great and friendly service as well; you can really settle in and get comfy here!

We arrived early and the place was pretty empty, had a drink at the bar and then went to our table outside. The mixed drink options were mediocre and weak. However, ambiance is great, relaxed and casual with a nice view of a small creek waterfall they have installed and fire pit. The service was also great, our server was attentive and witty. We started with clams which were large and we all had surf and turf which comes with sides and salad/soup. The lobster was sweet and delicious, served with filet mignon, mashed potatoes, and green bean/carrot mixture. The filet on the other hand was a bit over cooked per request and also had a smoked taste. The bill was steep with surf and turf being $65.. for a total of $400. Overall, I enjoyed although I agree with other reviews with the prices being a bit out of range for what you get.
