As expected with Homewood Suites, the rooms are spacious and thoughtfully equipped. I stayed in a corner suite, and it was impressively large, with tons of windows showcasing city views and western sunsets. The bathroom was a bit on the smaller side but perfectly functional. The bed was comfortable, climate control worked well, and having a ceiling fan in the bedroom was a nice bonus. The living area had plenty of seating, along with a dining table and a full kitchen with a full-size fridge. Soundproofing was solid overall--I'm a light sleeper and had minimal issues with city noise. We did hear some heavy footsteps and door slamming from guests above a few nights, but the hotel addressed it. The hotel also offers a complimentary shuttle within a mile radius--something I didn't use this time but would consider on a future visit. Breakfast was a highlight, with options like burrito and waffle stations. The chia pudding was especially great--and a nice vegan option. We had an extended stay at this reasonably affordable location 20 minutes outside downtown Rochester. There are 2 floors in this hotel, which features a small reception, a pool with hot tub, gym amenities and the daily continental breakfast. The pool water had a noticeable scum layer and was harsh. Reception staff were generally quite friendly, providing bottled water upon request; however our room's Do Not Disturb card was missing and wasn't replaced by the next morning. But where this Holiday Inn especially left more to be desired was our hotel room. Despite a relatively recent refresh, our room felt worn with a broken blind missing its bottom rail, a light not turning on above one bed, poor ventilation requiring constant AC, and a broken tile behind the toilet. Bed was comfortable but a notable annoyance was the fridge humming loudly when its compressor cycled in the middle of the night. Even the door frame was problematic, requiring a strong tug to open thus preventing anyone from leaving the room early without waking everyone else up due to the loud noise it would cause. Wifi was quite slow on some days when the hotel was packed & sold out with guests. We had never experienced this at a Holiday Inn before. Skip it or hit it? Affordable hotel near Rochester but a not-so-great room stay on this occasion.

But on the plus side, if you've ever wondered what it might be like to live in North Korea, then this has to be the closest replication in North America.
