Absolutely phenomenal, everything was perfect from start to finish. The personal experience of checking in and out with the owners was the icing on the cake. We happened to drive by the Miami Motel driving home to Buffalo from Penn Yan a couple weeks prior to staying. When driving by, the retro feel was immediately evident and you could just tell this wasn't your average motel. After staying, it definitely is not. I immediately googled it and decided we had to stay there based on the look and the overwhelmingly positive reviews. A week later we were trying to decide what to do for our upcoming anniversary and shortly after our stay was booked! We booked a king jacuzzi room mid-week, the reservation was made over the phone, our credit card was taken, but nothing was charged until checkout. The personal touch of actually making a reservation over the phone is one of many we received. We checked in and were told we were in one of their bungalows which included a car port. The owners were incredibly nice both at check in and during our more extended conversation at check out. They have owned the motel for quite a while and we loved hearing the history and what they had done with it. You can tell they are the type that are constantly working on things so I'm sure there will always be more coming. Make sure to take some time in the office to look around, they decor is perfect. From the couch to the beachy knick-knacks to the photos of the motel in the past, there is a lot to look at! Pre-COVID times they offered a continental breakfast, they do still have coffee in the lobby. We absolutely loved our bungalow. We parked our car in the carport, opened our door with the key (yes an actual key) and went inside. They bungalow rooms are quite large with full bathrooms as well as another area with the jacuzzi, mini fridge, bar seating and a wet bar and Keurig. Everything about the room was comfortable and inviting. So much so that we really didn't even want to go out for dinner! You could easily bring a good book and some food and lock yourself in for a couple days without leaving. We are looking forward to a winter trip and doing just that! Because it was a gorgeous day we did enjoy a cup of coffee at the table and chairs in our carport. We also had a nice grassy area behind us where I spent some time reading in the sun. This place may not be on the lake or have a pool, but we found it to be a wonderful place to relax. The location is convenient to everything, just a few short miles to the main part of town as well as shopping areas with Wegmans and Starbucks if needed. We found the price to be incredibly reasonable for what we room and service we received. This is definitely going to be a getaway favorite for us, especially with the close proximity to Buffalo. Trust me and the pictures, you'll love your stay here. The hospitality of the owners and the retro look to the motel would be enough, but everything else is perfect as well! read more

There are many good reasons a roadside motel is ranked as Canandaigua's top place to stay. I had driven by many times over the years and paid the place no attention. When my wife booked us a Jacuzzi room at the Miami for our anniversary, I was in shock. "What? That place?" After my first visit, we couldn't wait to come back. I'm rather conflicted about telling others how good the place is versus keeping the secret for myself. You'll have to see it to believe it. The owners live on site and take incredible pride in the condition of the rooms as well as ensuring their guests are happy. I've never found a cleaner hotel room anywhere. Fire up the brightest flashlight you have and see if you can find any dust. You won't. Not under the bed, not behind the nightstand. It's not there. Take a look under the bed. (I wouldn't advise this at any other motel.) Each room is individually decorated and many have Jacuzzi tubs at very reasonable rates. (Real Jacuzzi brand hot tubs, not ones that attract trademark letters from the Jacuzzi people.) Park outside your door, enjoy steam heat, microwave, refrigerator, and a great breakfast along with retro decor. They even have real keys, not key-cards. The Miami Motel is relatively close to CMAC and lots of shopping as well as the Lake. The rooms may be "retro" but I can assure you that no 1960s motel was this nice. I live out of town but have now stayed at this motel on two occasions. I love it! The room was always very clean. The decor is different and funky, but really adds to the place's character. Our room had a jacuzzi tub which was also a plus! The second time we reserved a room, it was with last minute notice and we ended up arriving pretty late in the evening. The owner was very nice about the situation and appreciated that I was a repeat customer. There is also a complimentary breakfast which has a surprising number of options. Whenever I need to stay in the Canandaigua area in the future, it will definitely be here. read more

Situated just outside of Canandaigua lies a tiny little motel that is on the verge of greatness. Back in the 50's and 60's, these small motels were "thee" place to stay in the finger lakes region. Travelers and vacationers stopped at these little gems and they were it. Fast forward 50 years and many of these places are run down, abandoned, and not a welcoming place to stay. Enter Miami Motel. The anti-thesis of the shady motel and and the corporate hotel. The proprietor bought this place a few years ago and is slowly renovating it and restoring it to it's 20th century glory. It is a work in progress, so they still have some things to do. I think there is a little potential for the finish work (nail holes in moulding, caulking, more decor, landscaping out front) but this may be on the to-do list. The remote to the television did not work that well and if your in the shower...DO NOT flush the toilet...3rd degree burns will get'cha. Overall though, the motel was very clean, modestly decorated to the 50's style, and the owner was very nice and welcoming. Coffee, fruit, donuts and biscotti in the morning was nice too. I would stay here again if I was in the area, and recommend this motel to other travelers that are looking for a place to stay that is different, unique, and something to talk about on the ride home. 5 stars for the owner's dream to keep this place going! read more

A great fun find on a Finger Lakes road trip with exceptional prices. Our king room was newly remodeled with fun kitschy decor. The bathroom has great tile work and dual shower heads and a little glass block wall to allow more light in. The room includes a refrigerator, a Keurig coffee maker, along with a wet bar. The stars of the morning continental breakfast are the 8 o'Clock Columbian Coffee and the Wegman's treats. Perfect while sitting outside our room enjoying the flamingo accented decor and the scenery. I originally found the Miami Motel when we were searching for a motel in Canandaigua for a wedding. Mixed among the lower rated chains was the Miami Motel, with great ratings. I scratched my head a bit, as I'd been by it literally hundreds of times. It looked like an unprepossessing pre-interstate motel, but the reviews were top notch. We couldn't stay then, because it was fully booked months in advance. We stayed last night on a whim, and all the good things were true. The phone reservation process was very pleasant, and signing in when we arrived was simple. The Jacuzzi room we reserved had a covered carport, which was very nice the next morning when we had a sleet/rain mix. The room was perfectly clean, the bed was beautifully prepared with tight sheets and covers, with lots of pillows. There was a Keurig with bottled water and coffee, a microwave, and a good size room refrigerator. Past that on a raised dais was a spotless Jacuzzi tub. The room had plenty of towels, with a decoratively folded towel next to the tub. In the opposite corner was a passageway to a full bathroom with a shower in classic 50s tile. Along the passageway was hanging closet with more towels, shampoo, and an iron. The room was beautifully designed in Miami Beach colors, and the bed was very comfortable. The TV was on an arm that allowed watching from either the bed or the Jacuzzi. In the morning, a continental breakfast was available with muffins, toast with butter and jelly, English muffins, cream cheese, coffee, tea, apples, oranges, bananas, oatmeal, and I'm sure I missed something else. The owner/managers were very friendly and personable. The history of the place was very interesting. I've been driving by for close to 40 years, and it has really evolved. Originally it looked like a low-rent extended stay place, kind of unkempt and not worth noticing. About 20 years ago, it started changing. The grounds were improved, the exterior was revamped, painted, and decorated. Part of the motel wing was torn down and rebuilt. I don't know what the interiors looked like when they took over, but our room and the office were magnificent. The design is older Miami style, comfortable without being tacky. The owners have done the design and execution of the improvements by themselves. Highly recommended if you are in the area. I'm still smiling as I write this review, highly recommended. read more

This place is a remnant of a time when little motels and inns lined most American highways during the 50s. It was the destination tired parents were happy to reach when the kids in the backseat of the station wagon whined, "are we there yet." I am so glad that the owners had the vision and foresight to restore this little gem of a motel located on Hwy. 5/20. The rooms are all 50s themed with colorful walls, bedding, and art. The rooms are impeccably clean and the linens crisp and white. Ours was the "deluxe" room that had a corner jacuizzi in the bedroom and a separate bath with a tub and shower. Each room has a mini-fridge and a microwave. Cute and cozy, this motel is more than a place to rest your head; it is an experience and a most definite blast from the past. The owners are extremely friendly and welcoming as if you are bunking in with family. They provide a nice continental breakfast in the morning and you can even sit outside at the small cafe tables in the front of each room. Even though it is right on the highway, the traffic noise was minimal. Remember to bring an alarm clock, shampoo, and a hair dryer. This place is fun, funky, and fabu! Update: Will be staying at MM again this week (10/11). Forgot to mention that they are a pet friendly hotel...and by that, I mean that they do not charge non-refundable fees for bringing Fido along! I went into a panic when I tried to find a decent hotel in the area for an affordable price. We stumbled across this place off of google maps somehow and read the reviews. Thought I'd give it a try. We made the reservations well in advance, not that that mattered much, but I wanted to mention it because the owner was extremely cordial on the phone. This wonderful attitude set the scene for our stay, and she was a delight while we were there too. In the morning, there is an ample continental breakfast bar with mini muffins, coffee and bagles. Very nice indeed. The rooms were exceptional. Clean, comfy, and 1960's chic. The bed was very comfy and clean, and I had no issue sleeping there for either comfort or fear of sleeping on a motel room bed! Clenliness is a major thing here. This room was spotless and fresh. An extrodinary find, and highly efficient and affordable. Nicely redone, and a very friendly owner. A rare find in these days of 'just give me your freiking money, okay!'. If we return to the area, we will definitely stay at the Miami again. read more

Probably the oddest hotel I have ever stayed in. When you walk into the lobby, there is a picture on the wall of how it looked when it opened, circa 1950-ish. The only thing that has changed since then is for some inexplicable reason is they filled in the pool. The paint jobs, the tile work in the bathrooms, maybe even the beds have been the same for over half a century in my estimation. But you know what? It was clean. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. And the rates (especially coming from where I am) are extremely reasonable. An added bonus is it is walking distance to Naked Dove brewery, and just a 2 mile drive from the towns Main St & waterfront areas. So, in other words, it could be much, much worse. And by the look of the other motels on the street, that is exactly what you would get if you stayed elsewhere in this town. read more

I agree 100% with all the other favorable Yelps. I needed a decent room so I looked to Yelp. As most reviews state, this is a quaint but quirky motel just down the road from Canandaigua. The price was right for the Queen Jacuzzi Suite, so my wife and I ended up having a romantic night. It was a clean room, the beds were extremely comfy and my wife loved the pillows. And I must say that the bathrooms were spotless! Cleanest I'd ever seen. Not even a waterspot! Stay here and you likely won't regret it unless you are too "high society." We were traveling to the Finger Lakes region to attend a wedding, the big corporate hotels are far and few between. Found this motel which had a pretty decent rating on TA, and we figured we'd give it a shot. We have no reason to complain. We were greeted by a very pleasant lady when we arrived and she gave us the tour of our room. We asked about sleeping accommodations for our 2yo daughter and she quickly brought us a cot, which our daughter loved. As the other poster said, it's a work in progress but the room interiors have been renovated and that seems like the most important part to me. The bathroom was in fine functioning order, the entire room is clean, clean towels, clean sheets, bed was comfy, I really don't know what else you need. Oh, plus there was free Internet!! She mentioned something about Coffee and donuts in the morning but we never got a chance to check that out. I really hope the owners are able to complete the renovation and restore this place back to it's glory of the 50's, 60's and 70's. When I spoke to some "locals" at the wedding and I told them we were staying here, they seemed surprised. I think this place has to shed whatever stigma it has from it's semi-recent past. There would be no reason we wouldn't stay again if we ever find ourselves in the Finger Lakes Region. read more

The motel, was clean and fresh, you could tell the owners cared about the rooms and the quality of your experience. We stayed in a jacuzzi room, it was very cute - decked out in pastels with small touches of decor that made it feel more like home than any mass produced hotel room ever could. Everything worked fine, we had a mini fridge, a microwave and an air purifier in our room, the A/C was remote controlled, which was nice. The jacuzzi worked well, we had plenty of towels. But do bring your own hair dryer and shampoo products because they don't provide them. However, if you forget those, there is a Wal-Mart a minute's drive away. The area is very suburban and feels safe. We would stay again. read more

Canandaigua is my favorite small town in the Finger Lakes. The Miami Motel is the best deal in town. You can't miss the sign off the side of the road. It's a convenient location. This is definitely one of the cutest most charming kitschy motels I ever stayed at. Being from South Florida is was especially tongue in cheek to arrive at this little neon Oasis. There is a star projector casting disco lights on the building as you pull up and inside the lobby it is a dream of kitschy and cozy bright Miami colors. It's a road motel for sure. The kind where you park your car right outside your door but each room is decorated with love and colors! I stayed in the newly renovated melon/orange room. The owners did their very best to try and hold unto some of the elements that were in design when this motel was erected in the 1950s pinks dj white tiles in the bathroom, a white horizontal panel room divider but they also managed to give it some surprising and fun updates. Like a faux flat screen light up fireplace and a jacuzzi. Yes. This room has a jacuzzi in it. Not in the bathroom which has a newly renovated tuba and shower but in the bedroom where you can watch tv as the bubbles and jets massage you to sleep. I mean I'm just saying. There we plenty of towels, soap and face wipes around and the whole place was cozy and adorable. I would 10/10 stay there again. In the morning you can make yourself some toast, bagels and coffee and they have cute little trays you can carry to your room. My only regret was I stayed here alone. That jacuzzi had room for one or two more lol! So fun and if you stay in town I highly recommend you treat yo self. read more

I am a female...traveling alone....yet I felt very safe at the Miami Motel. The owners are awesome....very friendly....yet they give you your space. The room was very clean....small T.V.....but an abundance of cable channels. They also have Wi-Fi. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend the Miami Motel. This place is HELL IN DISGUISE!!! My boyfriend our 5 and 9 year olds and I came here and stayed one night. Which other then to shower and sleep we were not there! They unknowingly charged us for a extra night saying the room was a complete mess. IT WAS NOT AT ALL. I cleaned hotel rooms and am sympathetic to how hard that job can be. I left all wet towels in one pile in the bathroom,all bedding piled on the bed and assured all garbage was picked up. Can't wait to stay again! LOVED our experience there. We stayed in a Queen Jacuzzi suite, and it was gorgeous. I loved that the jacuzzi was right in the main room - we could decadently soak and watch TV. The decor was so fun, warm, and aesthetically pleasing. I have never had such a good hotel experience for this price. The owner, Valerie, was great - very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed, down to wine glasses to enjoy anything we might pick up on our winery tours. When we originally booked a room, a jacuzzi suite was not available, so we put ourselves on a wait list, and Valerie called us a few days prior to our stay to let us know it was now available. It was really an exceptional experience, and I hope to have an overnight there again soon. Oh, and the wi-fi worked great too. read more

We haven't stayed in a motel in years, but we were in the area and there weren't many options. After reading reviews on Trip Advisor we gave it a shot. I am so glad we did. While the outside and the sign were definitely a bit concerning to us when we arrived (the owners explained they are renovating the whole place), the owners were the most friendly and the room we stayed in was absolutely perfect! The renovation is a huge success! We had a one bedroom suite, both beds were very comfortable, and there was also a couch/day bed which was very convenient. They provide plenty of pillows and towels to make life very easy. The price was very reasonable and the room was meticulously cleaned. The bathroom was spotless as well as very modern and roomy. We also had a refrigerator, microwave, and kitchen sink next to the microwave. We planned on returning because we were so happy and we did about 4 weeks later! I will write a separate review for that stay. One note: Please don't expect a chain hotel environment (i.e. Hilton, Marriott, etc.) as it is a local owner and NOT a chain. These owners are fantastic and they clearly do things their way which is one of the greatest things about this place. I am sure if you have a concern they will be more than willing to work with you to fix it if possible, which is something you rarely find in hotel chains that have policy and specific ways of operating. Update: Apparently only one review is allowed on Yelp so I couldn't create a separate review for our second stay. Our second stay was as fantastic as the first. We stayed in a King Bed Jacuzzi Bungalow and once again we were extremely pleased. The room was spotless, there were plenty of towels and pillows, and the room is well laid out! As other Yelpers have stated, the outside of the Miami Hotel is a definite work in progress but the rooms are clean and comfortable on the inside. Air conditioning is provided by an in-wall mounted window unit. My room had a refrigerator, stove, and a microwave - but no pots, pans, dishes, utensils, etc. which probably explains why it looks like the stove gets very little use. If you come, remember to bring a travel alarm clock, your own shampoo, and hair dryer - you won't find any in your room. If you are looking for an in-room coffee pot, you won't find one. The Miami Motel does have the little tiny wrapped bar soaps that were omnipresent in motels from 40 years ago -- it adds to the ambiance. Cell phone coverage on Sprint and Verizon is spotty here (with Verizon being slightly better) which could be a problem since the rooms do not have phones either. The free wired internet worked just fine - I used the cable that I had brought with me. The complimentary continental breakfast isn't much to write home about unless you are really into Wegman's mini-muffins and prepackage mini-bagels but at least the price is right. All in all - not a bad value for the money. read more

An absolutely delightful motel with amazingly nice owners! This motel is newly renovated and continuing to upgrade but still keeps it mid-century aesthetic. It is a blast from the past that is absolutly refreshing. You still get all the modern amenities that you expect from your lodging (cable TV, refrigerator, microwave, free continental breakfast, clean room, etc.) but with a charm that is sorely lacking at most chain establishments. I picked this place because it was number 1 of 10 hotels in Canandaigua on Trip Advisor... AND it was the cheapest. While many rooms are being renovated still, giving the motel an at times "shabby" appearance, it appears it is only getting nicer. And compared to some of the other seedy motels in the area, I give Miami an A+. Also Leslie, the owner/concierge, was super pleasant and helpful. She even gave me wine glasses and a bottle opener when I asked. Only complaints: No shampoo provided in the shower, only soap. And my iPad couldn't locate the wireless router... Though my wife's laptop worked just fine. Overall good experience though. read more
