The veterinarian care from their on-staff shelter medical personnel is top-notch. Two of my adoptees had low grade heart murmurs as kittens and that information was disclosed and explained completely and in simple terminology. I felt fully informed and comfortable. Also, I was surprised by how many additional things the shelter provided for the cost of the adoption. For example, the cats were neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. All in all, my experiences have been pleasant, professional, and resulted in incredible life-long friendships. If you're stopping in for a visit, make sure to ask for a guided tour, some of the volunteers are incredibly knowledgeable with literally decades of experience as cat fosters, shelter volunteers, and even some retired veterinarians!

A Heartbreaking Goodbye to a Place I Once Loved After many…read moreyears of giving my time, energy, heart, and dedication to a nonprofit cat rescue, I never imagined I would leave feeling this disappointed, disrespected, and heartbroken. I stayed because I believed in the mission. I believed in saving cats. I believed in finding them safe, loving, forever homes. And I worked hard at it. Over the years, I helped find forever homes for thousands of cats and helped generate thousands of dollars in donations for the organization. I was extremely good at what I did, and more importantly, I cared. These weren't just numbers or another job to me. Every adoption represented a life that mattered. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, the focus seemed to shift. What should have been an organization centered around saving cats and serving the community became, in my experience, increasingly consumed by politics, control, power struggles, and a toxic workplace culture. And that is an incredibly sad thing to say about a cat rescue. As I got older and began experiencing physical limitations, I made the decision to move to part-time, semi-retired status. I wasn't walking away. I wasn't abandoning the cats. I was trying to find a way to continue doing something I loved while acknowledging that I could no longer physically do everything I once could. Then the job descriptions changed to include physical cat-care responsibilities that I was no longer capable of performing. What I needed was some understanding and support. What I received instead was pressure, harassment, and criticism about my availability -- even though I had deliberately chosen to work the busier days when I could be most useful. After giving years of my life to this organization, it was incredibly painful to be treated as though my years of experience, dedication, accomplishments, and contributions suddenly meant nothing because I couldn't meet newly imposed physical expectations. Apparently, loyalty only goes so far when you're no longer able to fit the mold someone else has decided you should fit into. That was the part that hurt the most. Not having to retire from a job I loved. Not having to accept that I was getting older. But realizing that an organization I had poured so much of myself into could make me feel unwanted rather than valued. A truly compassionate organization should understand that people, just like animals, go through changes. People age. Circumstances change. Physical abilities change. And after years of service, those people deserve dignity, respect, and compassion -- not harassment and pressure. I did not leave because I stopped loving cats. I left because I could no longer tolerate the environment surrounding them. And that distinction matters. I will always be incredibly proud of the work I did. I will always remember the cats I helped place, the families I helped bring together, and the lives that were changed because I cared enough to do the job well. No amount of workplace politics, control, or toxicity can erase that. The saddest irony is that I spent years helping cats find their forever homes, only to eventually realize that I needed to find my own way out of a place that no longer felt like home. I wish the organization had remained focused on what brought so many of us there in the first place: the cats. Because the cats deserve better. And so do the people who dedicate years of their lives to saving them.

Katys Cat Cafe is a cute little Cafe tucked into the side of a couple of buildings. I really loved the theming inside the Cafe, pink is one of my favorite colors and I felt like they used the cafe space pretty well. They offer a variety of baked goods including different flavors of baklava and spinach pie. The menu also includes some fun drinks including coffee, tea and cocktails along with sorbet and gelato! We ended up trying their hot Mocha and the siamese mocktail which was ginger ale, mango, almond, vanilla and agave. We also treated ourselves to a piece of the chocolate baklava which was phenomenal, definitely give that treat a try it was a good balance of depth from the cocoa and sweetness (not pictured because we practically inhaled it). The coffee was really yummy, I did find the mocktail delicious but very sweet with my initial sips even after stirring (prior to letting the ice melt) being very syrupy (I wonder if there is a way to make it less sweet or to ask for maybe half pumps of syrups or to swap ginger ale for sparkling water), other than that the flavor combo was good just very sugary. We did purchase a day pass to play with cats which are held in a separate area visible from the cafe. I found the price of $20 for unlimited time during your stay to be pretty fair. The cats were all pretty sleepy during our visit and we anticipated a bit more cats to be present and about, (however this may be a good thing), despite this we were able to make a good time petting the cats in their perch and playing with them with the vast amount of toys available. The inside of the cat area was a bit sparse in terms of places to sit with the cats and comfy areas to lounge with them for play so that made staying an extended time a little uncomfy, we broke up our time by playing with the cats, enjoying the cafe and then playing with the cats again. Luckily re-entry was allowed in this case. We went on a Monday afternoon, so this may be due to the timing in the day but if you are expecting a place with many playful cats this may not be the place. Especially if multiple people are present you may be having to vie for attention from a few cats. However, if you are willing to move around and make your own fun and are okay with seeing cats acting in a way that is more consistent with how they would be in a normal home environment than you would have a great time, this environment is truly perfect for those looking to adopt for that reason! In my opinion, The Florida Department of Agriculture should look into this business for ethical concerns. I am unsure that this business is completely legitimate, legal and humane. I…read moreshould have listened to the rumors and reputations about pet stores, but the staff was so kind and helpful, I just couldn't imagine I would have a bad experience AFTER going home. I definitely feel like I was taken for a fool. My sweet little Maltese wasn't responding during my training, so I began to question her hearing. After speaking to our vet, she determined that she could be deaf. So I contacted the Petland Warranty number and they insisted that I send them proof from an official (and expensive) BAER hearing test. Sure enough, she is deaf. For the last two months I have been battling back and forth to try to get some sort of compensation for her, knowing she will need special training. What I ALSO have encountered (after owning many dogs in my lifetime) is that both of my sweet babies (a Brussels Griffon also), peed and pooped in their cages where they sleep! AND eat their poop!! When I told my vet, the first thing she asked is if they came from a pet store. Apparently she sees that all the time, so I was embarrassed to say yes. They all looked at me like "whelp, you should have known not to buy from a pet store!" I also have to UNDO the bad potty training habits that the puppies learned living in a box with other dogs. Petland offered me 25% refund, 50% store credit, or another dog. Really? I'm not going to just give her back. She's not a pair of shoes! Of course I'm going to keep her and give her the home she needs. I asked for 50% refund or 75% store credit but was rejected both times. They threw in a vibrating collar (that I already had to buy). As of today, we are still back and forth in this debate. Such a shame. Petland and pet stores in general have gained another enemy and extremely unhappy customer. From now on I will advocate for rescues or working directly with a breeder. Petland just doesn't seem to care about doing things right and I am SO disappointed in myself for trusting them. PLEASE I BEG YOU don't buy from this store. At the very least, make sure you read the fine print clearly and don't glaze over the warranty. Do you research and learn how they care for them. It seems as though everyone is right. They are a glorified puppy mill and KNOW people will sacrifice their budget for the cute puppies in the window. And if there is a problem, they don't do right by you OR the puppies. They still protect their bottom line. I 100% DO NOT AND WILL NOT EVER RECOMMEND this store. The employees may be nice, but in reality, you (and those sweet babies) are just a profit.

Fabian at the Dog Wizard was able to turn everything around for us thankfully. We boarded Bear at the facility in US 64 and Fabian worked with him daily. What he graduated from the program he was sitting and lying down in his place every time we asked. Before training he refused to go on walks because of his intense fear. Now, we take him on walks around the neighborhood every day. Not only was Fabian effective but he has repeatedly offered to meet up with us to work with Bear for no extra charge. Every two weeks we also can attend alumni classes on a Saturday at local parks which helps Bear keep up his training. I can't say enough about how great of a job Fabian did. He saved Bear's life. We are eternally grateful to him for that.

Grooming area was clean and the part that got me was the self washing station it was clean and sanitary. I have a Mini Aussie who is afraid of his own shadow at times. They were supposed to sedate her and bring her into the exam room so I could love on her, whisper sweet things in her ears and say my goodbyes holding her with love. They took forever brining her into the room and then, they must of thought I was an idiot. They handed her to me and I knew immediately she was already dead. They robbed me of my last loving moments with my 16 yr old friend. They were supposed to give me a clay paw print and didn't even do that.

Our dog was scheduled for 1-3 molar extraction surgery. During surgery, it was determined that his…read moremolars were fine, so THEY decided to extract 8 incisors instead, without notifying us, consulting with us or even calling. These teeth were never determined to be needing treatment, much less extraction, after 3 consecutive exams. The audacity is breath taking. Of course, we were charged $545 for unnecessary surgery. Poor dog suffered this trauma and will never have normal mouth function. We are waiting for the Clinic administration to respond to our complaint-6 days no call.
