ordered this cake specifically because I was told multiple times that it was a "Pistachino" cake and that it contained pistachios. I made it very clear that having pistachios inside was important to me. However, when we cut the cake, there were absolutely no pistachios inside. The taste was also very disappointing. It did not have any special flavor. Honestly, it tasted like a very basic cocoa cake or plain cake -- but at a much higher price. I also strongly feel like this cake may have been purchased from Vons and displayed in their showcase as their own product for resale. Previously, their cakes had a unique and distinct flavor, but this time there was nothing special about it at all. Very disappointing experience. I have never felt so disrespected as a customer as I did today at Royal Sweets. I simply wanted to buy a pastry for my little girls. When I asked for one of the fresh-looking pastries in the display, the woman working there refused and tried to give me an old, stale one with obvious mold growing on it. I was shocked. I pointed out that I wanted a fresh one for my kids, and she just stared at me and said, "No, I can only give you this one." The blatant refusal to sell me a fresh, edible product was humiliating. For a moment, I was speechless and wondered why I was being treated this way. I ended up not buying the pastry but purchased other items. When I told my wife, she wasn't surprised and said she's heard they treat non-Arab customers poorly. My friends later confirmed that the staff is known for being rude and abrasive to people of other backgrounds. It's clear this wasn't just bad service; it was discriminatory. I will never go back and urge others to spend their money elsewhere. Selling moldy food is a health hazard. Treating customers with disrespect based on their ethnicity is disgusting. Do not support this business. There are plenty of other places in El Cajon that will treat you with dignity. We will never return. read more

I am very upset and outraged of the level of disrespect I received the service was absolutely terrible and disrespectful! I walked in, and there was only one person in front of me and the lady behind the counter rang him up, and after a few moments, I was ready to order after she he walked out. Other people walked in, and they had grabbed things in their hands and walked up straight to the register at first I didn't mind because it was a quick item or so I thought, but then they started having a conversation and the next person she rings them up again finally, I get a chance to go up to her and I ask her one question and I tell her I'm ready to order, and I had a few things that I wanted from this side of the counter as I walked to the to the other side of the store, she stays at the register and completely ignores me and continues to ring up other people two more transactions happen, and even that customer said something to her and told her to help me and she shook her head no that it's not a big deal. It proceeded to ring him up at that point. I walked out of there that she refuses to help me or sit and continue to ignore me and now had a rule full of people and would rather help everyone else except me. I'm sad because I always recommend people to this place. I talk very highly of this place and now I will never come back again and I will never recommend anyone to this place to terrible terrible customer service. Do not come here. I drove all the way from the beach 30 minutes out of my way to come here to be treated like trash and ignored. read more

As you walk into this haven of delicious pastries you're overwhelmed because of how these baked goods are presented. They had the Dubai Chocolate Pistachio Bar which is so good. Very Rich! Three people could share a bar. We tried a baklava with cream cheese while it was still warm. I liked that it was not too sweet. Not huge fan of baklava but wanted to take something for mini get together. Found the price expensive, paid $25 for 1 lb of baklava. I read prior review and I read they paid $10 for theirs. They even provided us with complementary ice cream after our purchase. The staff was very kind and willing to recommend a variety of options for us that suited our event perfectly. Presentation and artistry of the pastries on the shelves should be 5 stars. Everything looks so nice, super clean and organized. Very impressive. Miriam also was very friendly and helpful with all our questions for the multitude of creations available. My hub and myself were on our way to a family gathering with a Fam Feast from Ali Baba in our car. We were ready to eat. But, as we were about to pass Royal Sweets we put on the brakes and decided to turn in and finally check this place out! The sight is a bit overwhelming upon walking in. There are so many selections! And we just wanted some simple baklava. Haha. Needless to say, our pit stop took longer. Miriam gave us a couple samples to go with our tray full of baklava varieties and sesame cookies. I would give 5 stars, but honestly I felt like the baklava was a bit bland. Not sure what it was. Maybe needed more butter or salt? But the pistachio nuts were good. Also I think the sesame on the sesame cookie needed to be more toasted? I expected it to be nuttier. I do like that they weren't over sweet. They would go well with tea or coffee.
