There wasn't even a single guest waiting at check-in, yet it still took over an hour to get our room. We upgraded our room, but from the very first day, the hair conditioner was already empty. I assumed the room cleaner would refill it during housekeeping, but not only was the conditioner not replaced, they didn't even leave fresh towels, and the trash was left untouched. I contacted the front desk to ask for fresh towels, and they simply brought the towels and nothing else. No conditioner, no proper housekeeping, nothing. And what's the point of including breakfast when there is barely anything worth eating? On top of that, I was shocked to see birds building nests and living inside the dining area where guests are eating. It was extremely unhygienic and honestly disgusting.

The process was not easy since my Japanese reading and writing is at an elementary level. I called the consulate first to ask what documents were needed and I found out that I needed to bring my original "Koseki Tohon" or family registry, my husband and I's passport, marriage certificate and my son's birth certificate. I flew from Big Island to bring all of these documents to find out that I needed to fill out a lengthy application all in Japanese so it took me two visits to complete this. I brought my Japanese friend who assisted me in filling out the application in Japanese which is allowed but they will have them sign a document acknowledging that they assisted. I highly recommend bringing a Japanese native to help you get through this process faster! After submiting the paperwork, the lady at the counter took 30 minutes or so to go over everything and she ended up marking all of my mistakes in red ink for me to correct. Although this process was a pain, they were kind enough to tell me exactly what I needed to write and allowed me to take my time in making my corrections in the waiting room. This process would have been so much easier and faster if they had this application online but I can't fault the consulate on this. Japan is still very old school and prefer everything to be submited in writing. Things to keep in mind is that they close for lunch between 11:30am - 1:00pm and their parking lot is small but I never had an issue with finding a stall since they are not that busy.

It was not only unnecessary, but the way the questions were asked made the interaction feel intrusive and very uncomfortable. I was not asking for any special treatment. I simply wanted clear information about the procedure and what I needed to do next. Unfortunately, I did not feel that the staff member was genuinely interested in helping me. Instead, I left feeling as though I had done something wrong just by asking for assistance. I understand that there are rules and procedures that must be followed, but there is no reason why they cannot be explained in a professional and respectful manner. I sincerely hope the Consulate will consider improving the way staff communicate with people who come to them for assistance. People seeking help with an official procedure should be given clear information and treated with basic courtesy and respect. There was a leaking bathroom faucet, a chipped sink, rust and water damage around the bathroom door, dark buildup around the shower fixture, heavily stained blackout curtains, visible dust and debris under the bed and dark spotting inside the bathroom vanity where clean towels were stored. The room also had numerous scuffs, patched walls and signs of deferred maintenance throughout. The location and staff saved the stay, but the condition of the room fell well below the standard I'd expect from this brand, especially at this price point.

The location? It's great because it is literally beach front; however, it is on the southern most edge part of that beach area. This means that the beach right outside is jam packed with tourists coming and going and you would have to walk a decent ways up the beach to find a spot. Regardless, a beach front is a beach front so it's nice to get down there quick and enjoy the beach. The hotel is in a great spot in Waikiki because there are tons and tons of shopping stores and food areas within a 15 minute walk so you never really have to drive out. Monkey Pod restaurant down below has great reviews and is delicious, but I personally think their menu is quite small. They also have a pool side bar/cafe that serves drinks, snacks, and meals and is a secondary pool-side restaurant. They play music down there every night. It's very calm, quaint, and peaceful to enjoy a night in the hotel. Unfortunately, the prices of their drinks are ridiculously overpriced. $17 for a Mai Thai not including tip. Insane. The room? I would say pretty average for any decent hotel. It was clean, the bed was good, the pillows were nice and big. The balcony is small, but can sit two people to enjoy the outside. The down side is the rooms of the two towers of the hotel face each other. So you don't get a beach front view unless you pay the big extra for those rooms. My biggest gripe about the room was the shower. The whole 7 days the water would change from warm, hot, very hot, rinse and repeat every few seconds. The price? Very expensive, but that's the price you pay for a beach front hotel PLUS it being on Waikiki beach. There's probably not big deals/sales unless you buy it through Costco Travel which is what I did which saves you probably a couple hundred at the very least. Valet is automatically included which is another 60 per night (not including whatever few bucks you tip them whenever you go out) so this would easily rack up your bill. I'd say the closest free parking is at least a 20 minute walk one way. Despite my rating the hotel a 4/5, would I recommend this spot? It depends. If you are a newcomer to Oahu and want to experience the casual, tourist experience of Oahu, want that beach front hotel, and have the cash, I would recommend this. If you are not a newcomer, there are many other hotels that will suit many other tastes. And honestly, staying at any other hotel outside of Waikiki is probably best if you want to really save on money and see better beaches.

We get to our "ocean view" at the Rainbow Tower which we paid extra for only to find a gigantic tree blocking the view we believed we paid for. We called to the front desk and Annie very rudely dismissed us before telling us to come downstairs to prove that our view wasn't as the pictures showed when we booked it. She told us to head down to the Mail Drop line and when we got there we're told we were at the wrong place. We then argued with a manager (can't remember her name anymore) for I'd say a good hour. First, we were actually told the manager bounces between towers and wasn't at the Rainbow Tower which ended up being untrue as we saw her in the back when we came down and she ended up being the one to talk to us. We asked to be moved to a different room and we were told this very partial ocean view we got with the room we paid for titled "ocean view" was exactly what we paid for because if we wanted an ocean view we had to book "ocean front". Yet, if you book an ocean view room on their website or through Expedia, the view they advertise is a full ocean view. We definitely felt gaslit and like we were crazy for asking to be moved to a room we paid for. They finally agreed to move us to a "lagoon view" saying they didn't have any ocean front rooms because they're so busy that they're full 365 days of the year. (Meaning they don't really need our business, I'm guessing.) We were not happy with the lagoon view because we paid for an ocean view, but we ultimately had no choice but to concede and they said they would reimburse our resort fees. What's sad is that the employee knew how to work the system more than the manager. Also, another man came down with the same complaints as us, but no employees acknowledged him so he waved his hand, and stormed off. It's been over a month since this happened, and my friend who booked separately from us (who had the same issue) has yet to receive her reimbursement. They said they mailed the check and she never received it. She's been calling them and has received no reply. The elevator situation at the Rainbow Tower is also horrible. Supposedly, they're working out the kinks, but be prepared for long waits and very crowded elevators when you want to go anywhere. Another tip if you choose to stay here. Do NOT bother paying for the cabana at the Tapa pool. We did and no one walks you to the cabana. They tell you to open it up and set it up yourself after they hand you a few waters at the towel stand. There's no food or drink service, and you have to go to the bar next to it to get your food or drinks. It's also very isolated from anything fun. We booked 2 Casabellas at the Super Pool the next day. They were cheaper and MUCH better. They had food and drink service and the server was awesome and the towel desk takes you to them and opens them up for you. Cabanas are a bust and a total waste of money. Overall, the customer service at this hotel is awful and I can only assume it's because they don't need our business since they're full 365 days a year... as they informed us. The nice thing about the hotel is that it has shops and restaurants attached, but it's extremely crowded. Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere.

The walls had newer paint, everything was clean, and the towels were fresh. The biggest surprise, though? THE BED. I was not expecting it to be that soft and comfortable! I slept so well. Is it the fanciest hotel in Waikiki? No. But if you want somewhere clean, comfortable, safe, affordable, and easy to stay at without paying luxury-resort prices, this absolutely did the job. Check In is 3 PM and Check Out is 11 AM & we checked in a tad later maybe around 5-5:30 PM. Overall, I shared 2 nights with a friend and we were able to split the payment between our 2 cards thanks to the Front Desk. I paid probably $221 for my share of the 2 nights which was pretty reasonable for Hawaii. They gave us a $5 credit for drinks/snacks at The Market (which we didn't have time to take advantage of) and a small Hilton bag with 2 bottles of water. The room was surprisingly pretty spacious for the Double Queen Beds, a TV, mini fridge, desk station, comfy couch, and closet. I'm usually one not to sleep well in hotels but I was exhausted from my first Oahu day and slept real good for the 2 nights! It wasn't extremely cold too, it felt like a nice 72-73 degrees. The Breakfast Bar (aka buffet) was included and opens at 6:30 AM and ends 9:30 AM Monday-Friday and at 10 AM on Saturday and Sunday. It was located on the 3rd floor where the pool is located and quite windy. There was a good selection of cereal, toast, bagels, oatmeal, yogurt, pineapple, granola, hot food station (which had Scrambled Eggs, Portuguese Sausage, Pork Link Sausage, House Potatoes, Waffles, etc.) and my absolute favorite, hot rice and Miso Soup! There was Apple and Orange Juice and a nice selection of Hot Tea and Coffee which you can take to go as well. Downside was parking was $62+/overnight. My friend found a parking structure nearby of walking distance which charged only $45/night so we saved a bit especially with renting a Tesla (the closest Tesla Supercharging Station would be the International Market Place-Target Parking Structure on the 4th floor on the left FYI). Overall the Hyatt was welcoming but because it was summer, prepare for lots of families and some wait time with elevators. The room was comfortable, had a great lanai, mini fridge, nice shower with super hot water! I booked a two Queen City view and was upgraded to a higher floor but it only had one bed. My husband and I had our two young kids so I asked the front desk if they could bring a cot for the kids. We really enjoyed the pool deck, the pool is great sized and shallow, it's 4 feet throughout. They have a small jacuzzi. There's a bar that serves food but closes at sunset. My kids loved the mini golf!! It is a legit course. There was also a large connect 4 game. And the fire pits were so nice at night. We watched the Magic show in the hotel which was excellent! We checked out the bar Casamigos on the 37th floor for a drink and it was cool, with live music. Hotel location is great, lots of shopping and restaurants and beach within 5 minutes from hotel. We would totally stay here again.

You can tell the place is a bit dated; but they have done a good job of refurbing it. We were upgraded a notch for being Lifetime Diamond, which was a nice start. As an aside, I was fine with paying the $93 a day for valet parking; noting it's pretty tightly packed in there, so to me it was worth it versus the $70-some regular parking fee. All hotel personnel were very polite, helpful, and fast at their jobs. Beach is maybe 150 yards away; pool(s) are in-between. The pool bar was happening and they served drinks strong. The Tapa Bar was nice as well. Be prepared for somewhat high prices; but this is Waikiki so I get it. Two downsides, neither of which was all that bad. The AC in the front room went out about half-way through our stay; noting the unit in the bedroom did a passable job of keeping the whole place somewhat cool. I will say we returned to the room at Tuesday around 3pm or so. The room had a pretty bad odor of sewer gas. We opened the windows; and filled all sinks and the bath-tub with water, with the drain closed, and then flushed the two toilets for good measure. The room cleared out within 20 minutes and while we left the sinks and bathtub full until the next AM (which might have done the trick).... Well, all I can say is we remedied the situation on our own. The next party to stay in that room might scream Bloody Murder.

Things that were okay: Cleaners only came once out of the 5 days we were there. They have a schedule they set for cleaners to come. The walk to Waikiki beach is like a 20 min walk. Filter water station available in the lobby for your water bottle. There's also luggage holding available which is nice for late flights. Parking was expensive. They were doing renovations so they said there may not be parking available for everyone in the garage. So if you paid for the day ($40) of you came back you were guaranteed a spot. There's cheaper parking in the area especially around the harbor area. I'd recommend another parking spot if renting a vehicle. We found a garage for $25 a day but it was a 10 min walk away. Breakfast is not included in your stay but like I said there's rona of food options available at a price. There's also tons of restaurants you could just walk to. Overall I loved my stay here and I'd come back if I'm ever in Waikiki.

The room itself was clean and comfortable. Upon check-out, there was an unknown charge of over $70 to our room, so we disputed it. They showed me the reciept and I confirmed it was not ours. So the front desk took it off and we left. Sure enough, next day, they charged our credit card for the unknown $70 restaurant bill seperately. My husband emailed them saying I saw the recipet and confirmed it was not ours. They came back saying....no your wife confirmed it was. What a bull. They could not find the people who wrongfully charged the bill to our room so they decided to charged us anyways. We asked to send the copy of the reciept with someone else's signiture, then they finally decided to refund us.
