I had a great experience! I made an appointment online to renew my Thai passport, and although I unexpectedly needed to get a new Thai ID as well, I was able to complete everything in just one visit. My appointment was at 10:00 a.m., but I arrived shortly after they opened at 9:00 because of unpredictable LA traffic. The staff were friendly, professional, and very helpful. The entire process was smooth and efficient. I was in and out in less than 45 minutes. They even took a great passport photo, which was a nice bonus! Highly recommend! read more

Holy crap, security was extremely rude. First time having to do business with the LA consulate office. I was told by a district office in Thailand to get one portion of my business done here but my concern didn't appear on the website, decided to stop by and request an appointment in-person as I was unsure and thought it'd be easiest to talk to a person. WRONG, didn't even get that far: security told me I didn't know how to use the website and to email them instead and spoke aggressively to my elderly father. Listen, I get how stressful dealing with any government agency is and that the office is probably tired of people coming in for one thing and then requesting another or whatever the scenario is but being spoken to and treated this way is wildly unacceptable. This was worse than the DMV. If I had a choice, I would never step foot back here solely based on this interaction. Really disappointing. read more

I have never encountered a more unnecessarily rude person in my life! Never even made it inside so this SCATHING review is not about anyone actually working for the consulate (my only communication with them has been via email and Line), solely the security guard out front. As an American citizen living in LA, I was sent to this specific location by my new employer in Thailand. I was so excited to begin the Visa process and thought the location being next to Cafe Gratitude was a sign from the universe! I did not have an appt, nor did I know they only process Visas online... totally acceptable, but I had no idea! He absolutely could have told me that in a professional and kind manner when all I asked was if I could speak to someone in person because the issue was time sensitive and the website confusing. I left deflated and in tears. This man cursed at me, ignored my questions, and physically blocked the entrance with his body. 1 star for the nice receptionist on the phone. Zero for the visa department. Very rude behavior. At first, I sent a screenshot. When told screenshots were not accepted, I sent in pdfs. This officer, who never leaves a name, just keeps responding "screenshots not accepted" no explanation, nothing. When I asked how the bank statement should look like, the response was how a screenshot looks like. He/she disregarded my questions and kept asking for documents after I sent multiple PDFs of bank statements already. After my visa was approved in the morning, I received another email at noon saying to "resend documents... consular reserves the right to request additional documents and can reject without providing a reason." in huge font. Zero star in reality but to post this star must be given!!! Had appt at 9 am was instructed to be there 15 min before appt time. Arrived at 0830 am and tried to get into visitor parking was told to park on the side by the guard that stood there. At 845 am the door not even unlocked nor any people standing by to open the door. Door opened at 0859!!! They open at 9 am so why make first appt available at 9 am? Also, you should know someone who work there because the whole process will take only 30-40 minutes!!! Such a bullshit!! They will tell you they wait for the connection from Thailand but when they have connection those who know insider got called first and they will tell those with the appt who had appt before or right around the same time to understand them that they are waiting for the connection they are working diligently to serve you!!! It's very unfortunate that Hawai'i doesn't have a Royal Thai Consulate. We had to fly to LA to renew Mink's passport because she forgot to do it when she stayed 1.5 months in Thailand. All good because she's never been to LA and I could show her around. The website had issues when we initially tried to book an appointment here so we called. They referred us back to the site. When it finally worked, we were set. We arrived early, about 10:30am for a 11:00am appointment, and found street parking right in front of the building. There was over an hour left on the meter so score! You have to check in at the lobby. They take your ID, have you sign a form and they hand you a visitor card to access the elevator. You cannot go up without this card. The security guard advised us to go to the second floor so we obliged. We talked to the person in the first window and he referred us to the window on his right. We stood in line at the next window. That person told us we needed a $35 money order. We called before coming to ask what we needed and they didn't tell us that. Copy of Thai ID, Thai passport and completed passport renewal document was all that they said we needed. They had me go across the street to SSR Services to get one which cost me $40 total. What a rip off but we needed it. I came back and the guy I previously spoke to said "see that guy?" He pointed to the guy in the Information window. Then he referred us to the window to their right (Information window). Thinking we're all good, that clerk said we needed a prepaid $25.50 stamped flat rate envelope from USPS. At this point, I'm super annoyed because they didn't tell us this. I could have got this all taken care of before hand. Now I had to drive to USPS to take care of this. The stupid machine at the closest USPS didn't work because some idiot shoved a coin in the credit card slot. When I finally got to a working one, I didn't remember my PIN on my credit card! Luckily I found my debit card. Now that I'm back again for the 3rd time, there was no parking so I had to circle around till a stall opened up. We had to stand in line to make sure everything was good and thankfully this time it was. They said we had to wait to be called. During the long wait, I saw many people coming and going all pissed off as well because they weren't told of all the things they needed prior to coming here. People were on the phone complaining about missing documents or items, upset people storming off and I'm annoyed as heck. Finally they called Mink to take her passport photo. It didn't take crazy long but about 5-10 minutes. With an appointment, we were there over 1.5 hours. That's crazy! I had to sacrifice a bookmark of mine to get this done and stay on schedule for the rest of our day. They need to be more organized at this consulate. Even the security guard mentioned that I wasn't the only one and many others daily are in the same situation. Not the best experience and I can't believe we had to fly here to take care of this. read more

Security here is very tight. Also, they only speak in Thai to you, so be prepared. It was not busy today I went, but it went pretty smooth.

I mean, I don't know what to say to start this review. Normally you hear all kinds of stuff when visiting other countries consulates but this was surprised me to see them pretty split. Well, I will be visiting the Kingdom of Thailand and had to come in to get a visa. I first called and they were helpful ( not necessarily nice) over the phone which helped me be ready when I arrived. I showed up with all documents needed, get ready to pay and to my surprise NO CHARGE!!!! I happen to be filing during a time that 90 day visas ( single entry ) are free which was great! So that saved me $40 which I am told I can do TONS of stuff with in Thailand. They have good hours and they also give you the visa back same day pending you have all your documents in order. I will definitely be back to this consulate and hope I get same type service as this first time. read more

Gotta say I was very impressed by the services in 2023 ! Compared to other times I visited this place with my grandma when she was still alive. The service then was not as good at all , thai governments employees were not Helpful and the Attitude was Super Ugly. Look, it's a government office--a different government, but still--I don't exactly have high hopes for customer service in any government office. (Side note: have y'all been to the DMV lately? For real.) The people working here are relatively quick, not very chatty, and efficient. ATTENTION: If you're going to get a visa, it really helps to visit the consulate's website to read their FAQ's and to make sure you have all the papers, copies, and correct form of payment you need. As other reviewers have noted, there's a place that does copying across the street that also offers money orders for a (hefty) fee--avoid all that by just going through the list of requirements before you get here, make the appropriate copies, and get a cashier's check from your bank. Go in, hand in your paperwork, photos, and passport, come back at around 3:15pm, and you'll be set. Some tips that work for me: -go early -park on the side streets for free for up to 2 hrs (but pls watch for those street cleaning/no parking signs) -most importantly: double check that it isn't a Thai holiday. The consulate closes during American holidays *and* Thai holidays as well (lucky mofos). If you don't know if it's a Thai holiday or not, no worries. The info should be readily available on the consulate's website. read more

Amazing changes have been made at the Royal Thai Consulate in the last 2 years since Consulate General Tanee Sangrat has taken his post here. Wait times are nothing like the DMV and the staff are extremely helpful. For this getting service for new Thai IDs or renewals, IDs are issued same day right after your photo is taken. There is no fee for this. For passports, it's $35 and you cal book and appointment online if desired. Just remember that only cashiers check or money orders are the only payment types expected. read more

You want to vacation in Thailand for 2 months? Just come here before noon Monday-Friday and they'll take care of it for you! Just remember to check what documents you need before you can do it. You also have to leave your passport with them overnight and pick it up the day after. There's also a processing fee, but this place is really fast and the staff is very friendly. They also have cool statues that line the building near the entrances. read more

I started September 15,2021 to present my travel documents to travel to Bangkok, here it is November 11,2021 and I still do not have any of the following COE, VISA or THAI PASS. I have a college accredited MBA so I'm not exactly stupid. So I'm rethinking weather I should go to Thailand to purchase a $500K condominium which I intended to do. I went to get my passport done today. Just FYI, because of COVID, it's appointment only. No walk in is accepted. And you cannot come pick up documents in person either, you will have to prepare the USPS Express Mail prepaid envelope. They make you wait outside the building and someone will escort you inside to do the paperwork. The process only took 5-10 minutes, which is really awesome. The staffs are nice and friendly. I hope they could put clear information on the website of what should be the expectations during this coronavirus time especially if everyone has to bring the returned envelope because they no longer allow you to pick up documents in person. I went there to get non immigrants retirement visa. Got there around 10:00am. Have. I problem finding a parking spot on the street. Checked in on ground floor to get visitor badge. There were one person in front of me. The gentleman who helped me was courteous and efficient. The whole process took less than 10 minutes. I was told to come back the next morning to pick up the paperwork. My suggestion is to look at their website and make sure you have ALL the required documents ready and in the order that's listed in their website. That helps make sure you don't miss anything. Also helps the process go smoothly. *** for the retirement visa, it says to notarize items 5-7 which are the bank statement, the medical certificate and the criminal background check. It's impossible to notarize those documents. Instead, print out the notarization form in their website and notarize that. *** read more

Had to visit the Royal Thai consulate today with my wife for her to pick up a new passport. This place is very clean inside and out, the bathrooms are very clean and lovely. What I do have to say is unfortunately the security guards at the front lobby were very friendly, more so than the Thai guy who worked at the information counter. My wife had to walk across the street and pay for a copy for her to pick up the passport even though a copy machine was inches away. I needed to obtain a business visa to work in Thailand, thus I found myself going to the Royal Thai Consulate of Los Angeles. Before showing up I scoped out reviews from Yelp, Facebook, and Google, all of which were either extremely positive or extremely negative; there's was in-between. Hoping for a painless experience, I gathered all the necessary forms and documents listed on their website and went in as early as possible (a little after 9 AM). After signing in with the kind gentleman downstairs at the front desk, I took the elevator upstairs to the second floor where the consulate is located. First, I went to the "start" desk, where a man made sure I had all the necessary information required to get my visa and put it into an organized stack. After being approved, he sent me to the "visa" window. I handed the man at the new window my papers; in return, I was given a receipt and told to come back sometime between 3-4 PM. I was in the building for no more than 10 minutes. Upon coming back in the afternoon, I returned to the "visa" window with my receipt. My passport with its newly inserted visa were given to me promptly. During my second trip inside, I spent more time downstairs waiting to be checked in than upstairs! Their website has all the information you could ever need; if you follow the steps and pay attention to times and documents, you will have an easy, quick experience. Best experience at a Consulate...EVER...and I've been to many! Wife needed a new passport and I needed a visa. Check in downstairs, go to the 2nd floor, and head straight to the booth. We check in, wife has a seat, and I head to window 3. Hand the gentleman my documents: visa application, passport, bank statements, and copy of passport. He types something into the computer, the receipt comes out, and I go pick it up after 3pm...SAME DAY! Until 28 Feb 2017, the tourist visa is FREE! Make sure you have all your documents ready and if you're paying for a different visa, have a money order OR cashier's check. No cash or credit card accepted! Did I mention this was the best experience at a Consulate...EVER? read more

I wanted to wait until my documents were fully processed before writing a review. Upon arrival to the consulate you will be asked to sign in and leave your identification. On the day I processed my visa there were only two to three people on the seating area. I did not have to wait to be processed so I walked staight to the window to be helped. The person taking my documents basically collected my paperwork, money order, gave me a receipt and requested I'd pick up same day after 3pm. While this is quite fast, did not work for me as I had work. Office hours are only Monday through Friday from 9am until 5pm. Therefore, if these hours do not work well, you will have to make further arrangements. I had my husband pick up my visa on another occasion that worked with his schedule. I was in and out of the consulate in less than 5 minutes. Only advise is to insure all documents requested online be turned in a complete package. Going to this place is pretty simple if it weren't for the LA traffic. Ugh. But once your off the freeway and on Melrose you'll pass Paramount Studios which I thought had a very pretty front gate, reminded me of old movies/cartoons. Anyways, there is no parking. :( I saw an open gate and parked in a spot but was told later that the parking is meant for employees only... and that someone left the gate open. So that means... street parking. Lame. I walked into a well decorated Thai-inspired room next to the lobby and a gentleman told me to go to the lobby. The security was rather rude and I think angry that I had parked in the wrong spot. As I hurried to do my errand I was afraid he would have my car towed. :( But he didn't tell me to move it and it was hot out so I let it be. When I finally got to the 2nd floor there was a large waiting area with chairs/magazines and 2-3 workers. They were friendly enough, but I had a purpose other than getting a Visa. So I needed a visa for my mom. And we're traveling the same night. We were able to get the permit the same day after 3pm. We got there as soon as they opened. Which I believe was at 9am. ( I could be wrong) they are quick and efficient. Just have all your docs ready and you will be out there in no time. You will need the following. 2 passport photos Copy of your bank statement Passport (of course) Fill out the application Bring a money order of $40 but double check ( I don't recall if they accept cash but they definitely don't accept credit cards) If you need the visa the same day bring your itinerary as well If you missing any docs there is a place right across that will help you with getting copies if anything you need. And also a money order for 5 dollars and if you need something to be notarized they can help you with that too for 10 dollars. read more

The Covid Application has many pitfalls which is reported by a "red bell-1" at the top of their webpage but their app refused to explain "what further document is needed" and after 5 days of leaving my email request and phone messages and the Thai Visa Man's absolute refussal to help me, I cancelled my ASL hotel, covid insurance fees because only 17 days remained til my departure and the Thai website commands: "10 to 20 business days are required to return your visa". I requested this Thai Visa Man be returned to Thailand for his failure in performing his duties, BA! read more

I would like to commend Bernard from the visa section for his excellent service, empathy and patience. I had issues with a 3rd party agent who was handling my visa (long delays, made errors). It turned out that the agent sent my application to another consulate office. Despite that, when I called in to Bernard, he was willing to listen to my problems and even offered some suggestions and help over a few calls. I've been through many visa applications at different embassies around the world, and never quite expected such service over the phone.
