3/20/18 I came in for a cut and color and really loved what they did for me. I had Rachel for my hair washing and color and she did a fantastic job. My color is bright and even, and she really listened to what I wanted. She also has a fantastic personality and is easy to chat with while she works. Jade cut my hair and before she began we talked about what I wanted and I showed her a couple of pictures of what I had in mind. She also did exactly what I wanted, and it looks great! I have had many experiences with stylists ignoring what I've asked for and just doing whatever they felt like and then I end up having to go and get it corrected. Not here! This was my first time coming here, It was recommended by a fellow vegan because they use cruelty free products. After calling I learned that the owner is vegan and although not all their products are vegan they do carry some vegan lines. I went in for a trim and highlight. They are doing a highlight/foil promotion right now so I had that done. The color came out much lighter then expected, my stylist Shelby was very nice and did a second gloss to darken it. The highlights are a bit chunky but I think it's do to the type I got and although the color is still a bit light for me I'm going to give it some time. I will definitely go back for a more natural coloring next time. The staff was all very accommodating and friendly, they even ran to my meter to add more money. read more

I visited Royale for the first time a few weeks ago and I must say I had a great experience from a customer service perspective. Everyone was very friendly and made sure I felt welcomed and comfortable. I booked the appointment with a novice stylist because online it said they would be accompanied by an experienced stylist, but unfortunately this wasn't the case. I had an angled bob (shorter in the back longer in the front) and just needed a trim. I left with choppy, uneven hair and had to schedule an appointment with a different salon the following day. Book your next appointment here now!! I wanted to take my light brown hair to a dark blue/black as well as trim my very dead hair a fair amount shorter. This was a pretty big change but the staff here made sure that I was comfortable and excited for it each step of the way from my consult to the days after my appointment! My consult was the most comfortable one I've ever experienced; all of my questions were answered completely honestly (telling me how the color might affect my skin tone, how important the upkeep would be, how much that upkeep might cost-things other salons don't always want to tell you) and made me feel no pressured or discomfort in any way. The super sweet guy who spoke to me through my appointment explained that the salon doesn't run on commission and assured me that I would be very well taken care of in the hands of a newer employee named Shayna, and that this option would be more in my price range as opposed to seeing him, a master stylist. However, all of the newer stylists are supported by more senior stylists to make sure everything goes smoothly. A few days later I went back in to ask if I would be able to take a picture of the color swatch I was planning to go with as I was getting nervous about my upcoming appointment. The owner of the salon who happened to be up front sat with me and talked me through everything and gave me even more suggestions to make me more comfortable. It was so so sweet and all of the help leading up to the appointment made me nothing but excited to make the change! During my appointment with Shayna I was the most comfortable I have ever been during a hair appointment. She talked me thorough everything again, listened very carefully to everything I wanted and all of my questions and, most importantly, she freaking nailed it. I am obsessed with my new hair. The color is perfect despite it being a more challenging color, the cut is THE BEST CUT I HAVE EVER RECEIVED. PERIOD. As if all of this wasn't enough, I woke up a few days later to a voicemail from Shayna checking in, asking how I was feeling and if I had any questions about everything we changed. I was so impressed and grateful. The service at this salon is unmatched. Final note that's very important: the salon and employees had by far the best Covid-19 procedures I've seen in any business yet. When you enter employees touch the door handles and everything else so multiple people aren't touching, a mask is required during every point in your appointment. There is hand sanitizer at the door, you have to use it, they take your temperature, the whole thing. Best salon in Bloomington. I send my friends and family here and someone from my office is spotted every time I am there because about half of my coworkers go to Royale and love it. Your experience will be personal and professional from the minute you book your appointment, when you walk in the door, your actual service, checkout and rebook. The business side of the house is very organized, they send you a text confirmation when you book and you receive a reminder as well. Easy to book, easy to pay, nice selection of products on hand. The studio is clean and open with local art work displayed and part of Gallery Walk series. The talent side of the house is phenomenal. I followed the owner of the salon, Bridgett, to several locations before she opened Royale and what she has put together for a team and atmosphere is top shelf. The staff is provided opportunities for continued education and workshops and you can follow that progress usually via their facebook page - I love knowing that they are staying up on the trends and the products, etc. We have booked Royale for my wedding party for multiple reasons, one includes that they have stylists that specialize in curly hair - Devacut. With many good recommendations from people who've lived here longer than I have, I booked an appointment. This is a safe space with lots of room between stations. I booked at Royale during my short trip back to Btown because I knew ya'll would be able to fix it. Gracie helped me out and I thought she was absolutely fantastic. Steve was fantastic! I was visiting Bloomington for a wedding and wanted to look great for the celebration. I came in with pictures of two similar hairstyles (front and back of both styles). After showing them to Steve, he leapt into action. The style was a braided front with a messy/ringlet look in the back. I voiced my concern that my hair usually doesn't stay put (no matter how much hair spray is used), and Steve was able to add the right products to make the hair style last throughout the night. I think I convince most to go due to the competitive pricing. For a men's cut, it's only $24. This sounds expensive for man used to $10 Great Clips 1-guard fade....but even for you, it is cheap! This place includes a free 3 week "clean up" in their price! Now, the stylists have the best reviews in town. I have heard so many good names here but I gotta stick with Molly. She understands my punk-edge days dont really mix well with my dapper-don days at work. She gives a good balance of style and practicality. Doing a fab style on the fly has never been easier. I brought my boyfriend here for the first time tonight. We have been together for 1.5 years and that allowed lots of Facebook stalking time......this is his best haircut ever. $25+tip.....you also get the shampoo and conditioner treatment. I had a fine experience here both times I tried to get a good DevaCut, but I was ultimately dissatisfied with the cut both times (with two different stylists). I really have been looking for someone to bring out the curls in my long hair, and I felt I had a good chance of finding what I wanted with the stylists here who use the Deva method. Unfortunately, neither of the stylists seemed to have a good grasp of my hair texture or how to cut curls with the Deva method. I actually went back to the salon the same week to have my cut touched up as the layers were choppy and awkward looking. I wound up buying the Deva book and cutting my hair myself with much better results. In the future, I'll be saving the ~$70 per cut and the headache and doing my hair myself since I know my hair best. I've been going to Royale Hair Parlor for a few years now, and I won't go anywhere else! I started going here when I was in college and had a pixie cut, because no other salon in btown knew how to properly cut a pixie. All of royale's stylists are very knowledgeable on all the latest styles, including funky and unique styles. They also do a wonderful job with color. No issue with the stylist, application, or anything like that, and when I shared my displeasure at my next appt, Bridgett was great. We discussed reasons why it may not have been ideal. My experience overall was awesome, the cut and balayage was great! I wanted pastel pink pops of color throughout my hair, and it looked great at first. I was told that the pink color would last 4-6 weeks. The color almost completely faded after only 4 days. "Up-do review" Erin made my hair just how I wanted it - big bombshell hair! - I loved it. The reason for 3 stars is that it started coming out a few hours later. She had used several bobby pins and tons of hairspray but it still fell out. The curls still looked great. I just wish it had stayed that way for the night. I want to blame my hair for sucking because it is hard to style but I've had several up-do's before and it's never fallen out the same night, no matter how long I've been up. I went into Royale with really long hair and I really really wanted it cut short. I called several times and I got an answering machine. Instead of leaving a message, and knowing I was going to be in the area later that night, I went in and was helped immediately. I was scheduled for an appointment the next day, as they were closing early for the evening. Kelly said she would come in earlier and cut my hair so I could donate it. Perfect. I arrive early at Royale and Kelly did an awesome job explaining what she was going to do with my color. I asked her if she was as good as a hair cutter and she was colorist (jokingly) and she laughed and said she was just as good. Prior to her cutting my hair, I showed her pictures of a short cut that I had a few years ago. I showed her what I wanted and she said she would do it. Unfortunately, it did not come out the way I wanted (so much angle) and I feel like this just isn't the hair cut for me. She did an amazing job on the color (I let her play around with tones), but I am currently not very enthusiastic about my hair cut. Just got my hair cut/colored by Lindley today! I was apprehensive at first because it was my first time getting my hair cut outside of where I usually do back at home. I am going to a wedding this weekend and really wanted to get my hair trimmed and to get my hair color "fixed". My once golden ombré had turned into a brassy mess after it had been bleached by the sun for months. I walked in and was able to get an appointment same day, which was perfect. Lindley suggested we use a toner (or maybe a gloss?) to soften some of the more brassy blonde areas of my hair. It worked magic! My hair was once again more golden and natural looking. I'm sure most people that go to this place are not Latinos, so no one reading this review will probably feel affected by my story. Add to this the fact that I'm male, and it becomes pretty obvious the people at Royale Hair Parlor aren't concerned with providing service to minorities. I have shoulder length hair and I've gotten my hair cut here a few times. They're usually very professional which is why I don't mind paying $80 - $100 for a hair cut. When I arrived for my appointment a few days ago, Brandon greeted me by cracking open the door while bracing it, as if I was going to barge in. His first words were, "Do you have a mask?" I said, "no." He responded with, "We have them for sale for a dollar." I said, "That's fine." If I'm willing to pay $100 for a hair cut, $1 isn't going persuade me to storm off. Jokingly I asked, "What if I had refuse." Brandon - "Then I would ask you to leave." I was just kidding, I said. He responded with, "I'm going to take your temperature." I asked, "Don't you know anything about customer service? You could ask to take my temperature instead of just pointing that thing at me." He was holding a infrared thermometer. He then asked to take my temp. I'm sure white women aren't treated like this but Brandon extended no courtesy to me; not even a "thank you" after I paid. He just said, "Good to go." I asked to speak to the owner and was told she would contact me, but it's been a week so I guess she thinks if she loses her male Latino clientele it won't make a dent in her revenue. read more

My hair color is a terrible orange color. I've been coming since March, showing the same photo what my goal is. Booking in advance to get in. Today I come in for what I'm thinking is a final lighting since I am nowhere near my hair goal and they let me know how I'm only down for a toner and haircut. I myself am a professional Cosmetologist and Barber I do not go to other salon and tell people how to do there job but as a professional and for my stylist knowing my hair goals and taking "notes" why wouldn't you call and tell me how I'm only down for a toner knowing what I want and how such terrible experiences I've been through. I went in to Royale Hair Parlor as a walk-in hair appt. just looking to get a couple inches taken off. I left with a gorgeous, modern, sexy (as my bf puts it) hairstyle that I am in love with! Chelsea did wonders with my pin-straight, lifeless hair and I wish I had hugged her before I left! I have tried other salons in town and while I have never had a terrible haircut or experience from them, I have never felt this confident upon leaving. The staff is very helpful and the stylists know what they are doing. Chelsea listened to what I had in mind and then took the reigns to give me the perfect cut for my hair's texture and face shape. She even kept it to how long I wanted it instead of cutting off extra inches like many stylists tend to do. She was very precise and I am thrilled with the result! I haven't been to Royale in a few years and I was going in today just for a clean up & side fringe cut. Rachael was my stylist and she was AMAZING. She gave me awesome advice based on how I usually like to wear my hair and even what tools might be best to achieve the cut I was going for. Regarding a men's haircut: I moved to Bloomington a few months ago as a new student. I've been to one other hair shop in town and was less than impressed. Based on a good yelp rating I decided to try Royale. I wish I had gone here first! The whole process was professional and enjoyable from start to finish: scheduling the appointment was easy over the phone, with a follow-up confirmation text. My stylist Molly clearly knew what she was doing and analyzed exactly what I wanted based on pictures I brought in and my hair type. She achieved the look exactly and told me how to maintain it on my own. Throughout the appointment, she was friendly and engaging but not overbearing. She worked quickly, too. It was a bit more expensive than what I'm used to paying, but all in all it was worth it. I feel like a good haircut is worth the investment, and I'll be coming back to Royale when it's time for my next appointment. read more

They did a free consult on my hair, which I've never have a salon do before, and then the stylist had time to color it right then and there, it turned out beautifully and it was cheaper than what I pay at home! This place might be great for haircuts (I wouldn't know, just going off of other reviews) but if you are looking for a blow out or makeup done, this isn't the place to go. The people were friendly enough but the actual services were sub par. The blowout took forever and looked nothing like I had asked it to look like (my hair being bone straight I didn't think this would be complicated). As far as the makeup, I truly do not believe that she had ever done makeup on a client before. After using a used sponge to apply the foundation, she continued to fumble around the drawers for makeup, (some which I could have bought at a CVS), supplies, etc. After asking me what I thought when I looked in the mirror, my eyes looked like I had been up for days. I have been going to Bridgett for years and she has never let me down. I can rely on her to change it up and get crazy or maintain a modest work-appropriate cut, either way it is always trendy, artistic and well worth the money. I haven't been to the other stylists here but I hear they are equally talented and I would not hesitate going to another stylist at Royale if Bridgett was booked.
