In general, all the associates I've encountered at this store are incredibly helpful. I always find what I need (more than what I actually need if I'm being honest). Any time I've ever needed assistance, I've been helped with a smile and true interest in helping me find what I'm looking for. Now to the salon, I've been seeing Hailee Demoss for years now. She is always extremely on point with my cut and hair color. I have curly, sometimes unruly hair... she tames that beast and leaves me looking fantastic when I leave. She ALWAYS takes her time to make sure the job is done right. Have I ever had to wait past my appointment time? Sure, sometimes, but not that long. And, that's because she's taking the same time and care with her client before me. So, for the folks complaining that they've had to wait for their salon appointment, good things are worth waiting for. I went into Ulta in Bloomington hoping to get a foundation sample or two. The guy who waited on me was so disinterested. I wanted a Lancôme sample and a NARS sample but he whisked me over to the Mac area. I was receptive to trying it but the two colors he tried on me were way off--one very dark and the other super light. Then he revealed he works for Mac. Told me he couldn't give out other samples. The one Mac sample I left with--way too dark--isn't even labeled if I did want to buy it. I miss the department store beauty counters. This is the second bad experience I've had with customer service at Bloomington, IN Ulta. I'm done with it. read more

This store has staff that don't know the return policy, and fought with me all the way about just wanting to exchange an eyeliner that was brand new in packaging, never used, and bought two weeks ago. They told me I couldn't switch it for a different color - who the heck manages this place? Product exchange happens hundreds of times at Ultas all around the country, why was this location so hard to work with? I took myself to another Ulta which did the exchange, happily, per policy, no questions asked. The manager here needs a serious, hard evaluation - both in her own work ethics and knowledge, but also that of her employees. This is a sad Ulta. read more

All the makeup is what I was ready for today, so ready. Bloomington has been a desert for beauty supplies with no ULTA, Sephora, and a Macy's that doesn't have a MAC counter. Whole the store items and pricing is great, my experience with the company has been frustrating. This is their grand opening weekend (soft opening was a week ago). They gave been promoting giveaways for the first 100 in line for the three day grand opening event... the company Facebook page listed the wrong time zone and when people commented on it they reply from the business was to check with the store. Really??? That is so lame. You are the national brand and promoting this opening and you can't be b others to confirm the time zone? The website then lists the opening at 10am fri-sat and 11am Sunday. After knowing people that went at 10am for the first day and found the store open, you would think that the Sunday time was correct. NO. HERE I AM WAITING IN LINE WITH 80+ OTHER PEOPLE and the staff walking in at 10:30am informs us the website is wrong and they open at noon. Seriously? This is really disappointing from the company. The local staff and store are what got the a three. If I have any more bad experiences I will probably just go back to ordering Sephora online. Time will tell. read more

Ulta opened in Bloomington this weekend. I've been a long time Ulta customer and was waiting for the store to open. First impression: the store is not that big, and it has all the basics you need, all the major Ulta brands and is well stocked on drugstore brands. I was impressed by their selection of NYX, which is hard to find in Bloomington. I was hoping they'd have some of the hard to find Wet N Wild but alas, nowhere in the store. There was a huge MAC display right as you come in with not a lot of MAC products other than lipsticks and foundation. I was on the hunt for a new eyeshadow palette and they only had a couple of basics. This was my general impression of all their displays: you can find the basics or the super hot items, nothing else. There weren't a lot of indie brands or high end brands. The bath products I thought were pretty lacking and the nail selection was pretty stingy. Another disappointment was no sales; for an opening day weekend I was really hoping for some incentives. On the up side: there was a small section of Korean beauty that's nice to see in a college town. I was really impressed with the more extensive and harder to find drugstore makeup and skincare selection. And the location is very convenient. I can't speak to the hair care or high end skin care, but it looked pretty standard as well. I left with a couple of NYX items, Burts Bees lippie, some Yes to Carrots, a Body Shop wash, & Aveeno face wash. So, it's ok. I will probably come by occasionally if they have great sales and if they have better stock than they did today. read more

I come to Ulta for my scalp treatments, so good for your scalp. And they also bow dry your hair afterwards. So nice. They have everything a girl could possibly want or need here. I like the sales and clearance items,so fun to shop, all kinds of different great brands in one store. read more

I had my eyebrows done at Ulta and though less painful I left with fairly uneven eyebrows. One is now noticeably shorter than the other. This is especially upsetting given the $22 price tag. I was expecting a great service and left upset. read more

I don't ever come for services , so I can't comment on those. I mostly like Ulta for their wide selection (only real makeup shop in town), especially their selection of skincare products. They have a decent little Korean skincare section but they keep changing the products so whenever I find something I want I can only expect it to be there that once. Sometimes they have good sales and I like that they'll honor sales if they run out of product and have it delivered to your door for free. Very good policy! It's a fun shop and has a wide selection - I only wish they had some cheaper brush options. read more

I love walking into this store. It's like a gravitational pull & it's hard to get out once I've gone in. The staff has always been helpful & nice (despite what I've heard online) I can literally walk up to them & just say something like "Laura Mercier?" Or "ColourPop?" & with a smile they've pointed me in the right direction. Even when I've had to wait for product to be pulled from the back, they're constantly apologizing for any wait time I have. The ONLY thing bad I have to say about my local store is the product is always super low on the shelves every time I've come in. I've only been in the store a handful of times (I normally only go when I'm out of about $80 worth of makeup, not much I know, but I seriously somehow spend $80 every time I'm in the store. Totally not complaining about that side of things though **help me I'm poor **) but every time I've come in the shelves are always messy, testers are all over the place & a lot of things are not where they're suppose to be or just simply out of stock. It's hard for me, a pale ass white girl, to find my shades because they're not on the shelf so I can imagine how hard it is for people with darker skin tones than me to find their right colors. I do love the store overall though, & I do end up finding something that I need (hence the spending $80 every time I'm in the store ) I'm still hopeful that one day I'll walk in & the shelves will be all nice, neat & stocked like I just entered the heavens for the makeup gods themselves. read more

I went to Ulta Beauty today to pick a concealer and an eye cream. My son 7-year-old accompanied me to the mall where the store is located as it was the weekend. He had a remote-control car that he was playing with and suddenly an Ulta Rep rectified him not to play with the car in the store. I can understand if it is not permitted or bothering other customers. However, I don't understand that who gave permission to an Ulta Rep to speak to my child like that; if he had an issue then he should have politely asked me to talk to my son about not using his toy in the store. I am an Ulta platinum customer and was disgusted by the Ulta Rep's behavior today. I will stop going to Ulta and will drive to Sephora! read more

I had such a great experience getting my makeup done for my engagement pictures. My makeup turned out wonderful. As a woman of color I was worried about if the makeup artist would match my skin tone well and highlight my features. My MUA Anna did a great job! Not only did she provide wonderful service but also great conversation. I would definitely get Anna to do makeup again for any special occasions I have in the future. read more

I came in on a Monday afternoon several weeks ago and even though I hadn't made an appointment ahead of time, and Raven was the only stylist there, she happily worked me in. She really seemed to understand my hair and helped me narrow down what style I wanted. Chatting with her was nice, and even informative, as she told me some fun facts about the science of hair. When she was done, it looked great. Even though I can never style it like they do in the salon, I've had a good hair day every day since. I have long, curly hair and prefer a low-maintenance routine, and this cut really makes it feel healthy and look nice even with little to no styling. I really appreciate Raven taking the time and attention to give me such a perfectly suited cut, and I will definitely be back. read more

Being new to the are I found it really frustrating that there wasn't an Ulta, no Sephora, no mac, since I was used to having all three of these in my old city. I was so pumped to learn about Ulta opening, and honestly, this Ulta is a lot better than the ulta in my hometown. They carry almost the entire NYX line. I was finally able to get brushes and pigments without ordering online and they carry other brands my other store didn't have, like MAC! Only real downside would be the staff. I asked the Mac consultant a question and I felt very brushed off. I got color matched, which was fine, but in the past thye would do my whole face not just leave me with a blob on my face. I'm please overall because I'm only there for the products not the staff. read more

I had called and set up an eyebrow wax appointment for 11am the next day. I showed up to my appointment a few minutes early, and walked up to two employees standing at the brow bar. They told me the brow specialist should be coming in at 11, so I was free to walk around the store until she came in, and that they would come find me. A few minutes after 11 I looked over to the brow bar and the specialist hadn't yet come in, so I continued walking around. About 10 minutes later I looked over again and saw she was there and had two people getting their brows waxed and lashes done. I kept walking around until both were finished. The eyebrow specialist had a friend standing to the side of the brow bar, who when the two were done started to say,"I want you to do my brows before I go" and sat down while I was walking up. I told the eyebrow specialist that I had an appointment that was at 11, and by then it was 11:35. She told me,"well, since you're a little bit late I'm going to do hers first." I told her that I've been there waiting and was told to walk around the store when I came in. I left the store at noon after the wax. I've always had quick eyebrow appointments in the past and did not expect to be at Ulta for an hour. read more
