There was a staff member standing right in front of the cash but it turns out that he was not orders so he let me know that someone else would be with me shortly. Many times at other establishments the staff member would ignore me and walk away so I appreciate that he acknowledged I was waiting. I ordered the small jerk chicken for $9. While this isn't exactly cheap the amount of food that comes in that container is immense. You're given the option of coleslaw or veggies and I went with the veggies. There was a wait for the food since this is a popular option in the food court. The line doesn't end, customers just keep lining up. The chicken was tender and very flavourful (too spicy for me haha). It was so good that I kept at it with rice and veggies in between bites of chicken to finish it all. Ok so I have come back several times since my review and I have tried the curry first, BBQ chicken and more jerk chicken. I have to say that they are all good. I am torn on whether I like their BBQ chicken more or the jerk chicken but I think I have to give a slight edge to the jerk chicken. The goat was good as well though I hated sifting through the large amount of bones. I prefer the platter over the sandwich as the rice with the jerk sauce is just delicious. The bread that came with the sandwich was more like a pita. The texture was a bit weird as it was not soft but also not too hard. The portion also was not very big if you are hungry so keep that in mind. Overall it did not work for me so I will be sticking with the platter. I wanted to give these guys a solid 4/5 but the jerk chicken is so salty and the service so slow and flat that I removed a star. The flavour of the jerk chicken is there. After rejecting the various eats at the Auto Show, we decided to make our way to the Union Station food court to grab lunch there. I'm so glad we did. We remembered that Roywoods' Jerk Chicken Sandwich was on Toronto Life's list of the best sandwiches in the city, so it was a total no-brainer to stop by their storefront. I indeed did get the Jerk Chicken Sandwich, and I asked for everything on it (spicy mayo, tomato, pickled onion, and slaw). It was ready about 10 minutes later and it is indeed a tasty 'wich. The chicken is clearly the highlight, as the jerk seasoning is super flavor and exactly spicy enough. The cold, sweet coco bun was weird, admittedly, but everything worked well together. We also tried a couple of sides, the Callaloo and the Plantain. The latter was clearly reheated but it was tasty nevertheless, while the former was definitely a big winner for me. For those of you unfamiliar with the chain it's basically a higher class Carribean restaurant that sells the usual jerk/friend chicken, goat curry, rotis, etc. Since this location was new I decided to give it a try during one of my lunch breaks. First thing to note: it gets busy around lunch time, like really busy. I arrived at 12:10PM and there was already a line-up of approximately 30 people. When it finally came for me to order I settled on the large jerk chicken which was priced at $14. I had to raise my eyebrows at first too since that's pretty expensive for a food court location, but after diving in I can understand why it's like that. The jerk chicken was one of, if not the best, I've had in Toronto. The quality of the cuts was top notch being tender, smokey, just a tad spicy, and packed full of flavour with good seasoning. The rice and peas are serviceable and the coleslaw being a good blend of sweet and creamy. The portion was quite generous in my opinion and I struggled to finish the dish so I'd say it was about right. If you're a fan of jerk chicken I'd advise you to try out Roywoods at least once. Personally I'm going to have to return at least once more to try out their fried chicken and oxtail dishes! read more

I was pretty impressed by Roywoods as far as takeout Jamaican food goes. They offer a variety of dishes such as oxtail, curry chicken, BBQ chicken and of course jerk chicken. Small size is $8 and large $10 which is pretty good value in my eyes. The small is more than enough for a lunch and there was definitely WAY more food in the jerk chicken meal than I expected. Speaking of which, the boneless jerk chicken itself was delicious and made eating my lunch from a takeout container much easier. Personally I would have gone a little spicier but I guess they cater for the masses. I didn't notice any hot sauce on the counter to spice things up, for what it's worth. I chose coleslaw instead of veggies with mine and it was delicious - creamy and with just the right consistency. The rice and peas were delicious too and seasoned with the perfect amount of spices. If you're looking for something more portable they also have chicken sandwiches (jerk or BBQ) with a pop for $10 which is pretty good value. My only complaint is that they use styrofoam containers and cups which is a real shame in 2019. Definitely a solid lunch place considering it's in a food court! read more

But the Union location staff talk to customers like they're dead inside. I've been here 5 times, and each time I've had such varied portions. Today there being 3 pieces of "jerk chicken" (was given BBQ chicken instead of jerk), so little rice, sauce drenching the rice and a tiny bit of coleslaw.. for $14. it honestly looks like the staff does not care. Totally get it if you're working minimum wage but I think the business suffers in a customer service standpoint. It's really sad because I talk highly of Roywoods being the best jerk chicken in Toronto to a lot of friends, but the staff makes the business suffer in terms of customer service and the portion varies depending on who's working today.
