Aloha, Mike and his…read morecrew did a complete renovation of our 2 bedroom and 2 bath Kona condo over the past 2 years. We decided to break the work up in to 2 phases as the project had a natural stopping point and the unit is an active vacation rental in Kona Shores that we wanted to be available for several of our "regular" renters. Like other reviews have stated, we are extremely happy with the work Mike and his crew did for us. We give our full recommendation and will use him for our next project. To summarize some of the key points from our 2 experiences working with Mike, he is: - Highly organized and meticulous (provides very detailed timelines and itemized invoices. He also shares lots of pictures as work progresses) - A great communicator, who is responsive and timely (We've never had a contractor as responsive as Mike) - On time and budget - Does very high quality work - Brings good ideas when you hit unexpected challenges - Willing and happy to go the extra mile for you to see the job done right Please see the attached before and after photos of our project. They speak well for the quality of Mike and his crew's work! Mahalo Mike!

On budget and on time. How often do you hear that? We had heard that about Mike and his company…read morebefore we started with him, but when we heard that our project was ambitious, we were not sure it would be the case with us. It was. Mike and his crew were terrific. Mike was wonderful with communication, keeping us in the loop, sending photos of the project, and helping us select items for our job. He was also excellent in follow up on a few minor items. We did not have to track him down; he stayed up with us to make sure they were completed. We also found him to be a straight shooter. Mike and his crew renovated our kitchen, our living area floors and added a closet. He stayed consistent with the design of our house, and even found the person who installed some of the doors originally. The quality of the work was excellent. He was creative, made good choices and helped us navigate the process. It is often hard to differentiate one contractor from another. Hence, this review. Mike stood out in every way that mattered. We are very pleased with the result and the process. We highly recommend him.

Instead, we applied for our permit in mid-August, received it in mid-October, yet construction did not begin until mid-January. By mid-April, after paying over $114K on a $168K contract, we had a failed County inspection, a partially gunited pool shell, and had already incurred additional architectural costs attempting to address the deficiencies, so we terminated the project. Hawaii Pools failed to construct the pool in accordance with the architect's approved plans and proceeded with gunite before obtaining the required reinforcing inspection approval. The gunite shell was not completed in a single continuous pour, resulting in cold joints throughout the structure. When Hawaii County inspected the project, the inspection failed. The County found that the reinforcement did not conform to the approved plans, required revisions before the project could proceed, and documented that a design professional would need to assume responsibility for the cold joints in the pool shell. As a result, the existing shell cannot simply be repaired or completed. We have had to hire a new architect to redesign the pool and engineer an entirely new reinforced shell inside the defective structure before a new contractor can rebuild the pool. After our project failed, we connected with several other former Hawaii Pools customers (through online reviews and word of mouth) who described experiences similar to ours. We also spoke with former business associates, subcontractors, and employees whose experiences raised additional concerns. Based on our experience, we strongly encourage prospective customers to thoroughly research Hawaii Pools, Scott Kohea (formerly known as Scott Huist or Huish), Kadi Kohea (formerly Kadi Huist or Huish and Kadi Correia), and Joe Correia before entering into a contract. NOTE: Waves Aquatics appears to be a new company this crew is starting while folding Hawaii Pools. We have filed a complaint with the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA). As of this review, Hawaii Pools' contractor license is listed by the State of Hawaii as **"Not Valid - Unable to Practice."** I also could not locate a Hawaii contractor license for Waves Aquatics in the Hawaii DCCA contractor license database. Additionally, as of the date of this review, I found **five pending DCCA complaints** involving Hawaii Pools.

Timeline was sent with milestone dates that had already past before even receiving document. Do not show HOA approval yet state going in for county permit and no designs reviewed/approved with us the customer. Shows project being done in around six months. How is that reality when HOA takes roughly 2 months and then County takes 3-5 months just for permits. Do NOT engage with Hawaii Pools or Wave Aquatics. They are dishonest and have left many people with partially done pools.
