I am writing to inform this group about a horrible experience I had with Rubber Duck Plumbing.  Two years ago, the company installed a new hot water heater in our home. Earlier this summer, we noticed that the hot water heater was leaking, and eroding. This happened while my husband was away on business and I had Rubber Duck Plumbing install a new furnace for a lot of money.  When my husband returned home, he called the company to see if they could give us some Type of Credit since the heater was new and also expensive. Before my husband could even ask a few questions, the owner of the company preceded to scream at him. Among the many disrespectful things he said was, "maybe next time you should be there fa*got!" After reading all the previous reviews, not very surprising how our encounter went. Will go ahead and tackle the excuses he listed below. We had rubber duck come out (through our home warranty, so sadly no choice). Right away red flags when we had a lot of difficulty getting him to even answer the phone and then he canceled and had to reschedule repeatedly. He finally showed up (and it still didn't get better). He claimed our issue was due to the race of the previous home owners, but did also agree with what a previous plumber (sadly not through home warranty) had already said was wrong. But that he wouldn't do the fix through the home warranty - but he was happy to come back the following week if we paid him cash instead! He then filed a fraudulent report to our home warranty claiming there was no issue and our attempt at getting it fixed under coverage was ruined. Funny part, called back the first plumber who fixed exact thing that was said to be wrong (by both of them, just not by rubber duck in their official report), and the plumbing issue went away. Avoid this company/ man. Apparently has no ethics. Oh. And he's still referencing that car crash (now in 2024) and used it as an excuse to not go get the correct tools from his truck. Rubber Duck will try to respond to below with excuses. Here are the facts. Our home needed hot water tank replacement. Rubber Duck showed up 4 hours late to initially diagnose the need for a hot water tank replacement. Delays can happen that is understandable. Rubber Duck then told American Home Shield that they fixed the water tank and the job was complete. They never even came back to the home to fix the water tank. Then they agreed and said they will come fix it. They were supposed to come 4 different times to fix the water tank. Here are the excuses of why they could not come make it to my home. I am copying exactly how I received the message from Rubber Duck: 1) "Office closed todsy due to family emergency Reschedule to Fri," 2) I'm digging my way into my shop to get your heater. The twp plowed me back in...ill see you today 3) "HAve not left yet, I am stuck in the parking lot" 4) "Sorry for not calling I got banged up when pushing out my van ended up in the ER with a blown knee, Im brased up for now I will be there today" 5) "Not this week, I was in contact with a person with covid. My quarantine ends Saturday " It is almost comical. They stopped responding to me entirely at this point. I don't mind if these are legitimate excuses but at least let people know the updates and pick up the phone and call. I had to leave so many voicemails, emails, and text messages just to get an excuse listed above. Steve from Rubber Duck seems like a nice guy and I am sure he is, but he will need to improve drastically on communication and updating a customer. Could be he knows about plumbing very well, I can't speak on that but I do know that the above is not acceptable. Have used them for three different homes. Way overpriced In my opinion. I had recommended my brother to them. They repaired a broken flange. They had to get a new wax ring, three feet of PVC, a coupling and flange. Toilet was already removed and cleaned off by my brother. Job took approximately two hours. Grand total of $1,100! I called office. They took off $100. When he went to pay cash they said credit card only! I feel it should have been $700.00. I called around locally and was quoted $700.00. Will find another plumber. Will not recommend. Joe is cranky should not answer the phone. John snd Andrew are very nice. Just a warning. Everyone is entitled to vacations, emergencies & not feeling well. But, with CONSTANT lack of communication and cancellations I opt for NO star at all. I had a very good recent experience with Rubber Duck Plumbing. I have water stains at various locations throughout my home. I put in a claim with my home warranty company and Rubber Duck was assigned. Within 30 minutes of the assignment, I was contacted by Steve. He was able to schedule an appointment for the soonest day I was available. The appointment was a 4 hour window. Steve called me an hour beforehand, and told me would be there in about an hour (which he was). I think he did a through job of inspecting the water stains, and he was able to quickly determine the cause was a crack in the tank of the upstairs toilet. He explained that the previous owners who installed the toilet put it too close to the wall (there should be a 2 inch gap), and that the toilet needs to be replaced. I was glad to not only know what the problem was, but also what caused the problem. He took pictures and said he would file a report with the warranty company and it takes about 48 hours for them to make the determination. And I pretty much knew this to be case. Overall, I thought he did a great job. Very personable. He wore PPE so I'm glad he shows personal consideration for his customers read more

Immediately got email from him saying that he doesn't service my problem and that I should ask Ahs for a different contractor. I then clarified the problem , and then he preceded to argue with me by email saying that the radiator couldn't be serviced, but could only be replaced and that he was not available on Thursday. He then made an appointment with me for Friday which was confirmed. He then did not show up fir the appointment. I then emailed him and he said that he had a family emergency and he said that he would call me on Saturday to reschedule. He never did call. I theen emailed him asking if he had called...... he resounded by saying. "No". Never called ever Totally dishonest. Total non professional. Don't EVER use this company. Completely incompetent! First, my home warranty company schedules them to come out for our water heater. They come, I pay them $100, they tell us it's not a plumbing problem, its electrical, and leaves. Electrician comes, tests with multi meter,etc, and says it's not electrical, the elements are shot. We had a flood emergency and I couldn't get in touch with the person that usually makes repairs for us. Our main sewer line tended to back up over the years into our downstairs half-bath and the only way it was repaired was by having someone come in and 'roto' the mess away. This time we were lucky, and John from Rubber Duck came and took a look. He found the problem because he's equipped with a camera that can go through the pipes. Our main pipe was separated just outside the house; the fitting was broken, the pipe from the house was lower than the main, roots were growing into the pipe ... all sorts of problems. We thought we were facing a very major expense, but John fixed the whole thing and we were more than satisfied with both the results and the cost. I have already recommended him to three friends because I have no doubt that he can get the job done! read more

NEGATIVE REVIEW ALERT!!! The following factual statements I am about to make can be verified via text message screenshots, emails, and timestamped phone logs. I submitted a service request through First American Home Warranty on 3/19/2021. On 3/21 I received a text and email that a technician from Rubber Duck plumbing would arrive on 3/23 between 11-4. On 3/23 I received a reminder text and an email that the technician would arrive between 10:45-2:30 (note the time change). I then immediately received a non-automated text asking me to confirm the appointment and I texted back "YES" to confirm. Steve Moore arrived at 2:05 (during the confirmed window of time) spent some time diagnosing the issue, took pictures and informed me that I had a small area of mold due to a leak and that I would need to have a mold remediation company take care of the mold before he could complete the work. I did as he instructed and had the mold remediated the following day. It is at this point where the negative review begins. I called the number on the email so that I could get in touch with him since he did not provide me with a business card or any documentation whatsoever and left a voicemail on 3/25. Our next communication was on 4/2 with him asking me via text if I had heard if the repair was authorized. I immediately responded yes and a few hours later I received a system generated text and email stating that a technician will arrive on 4/6 between 9-1. He then asked via non-automated text who did the remediation and I responded. On 4/4 I received a reminder text and email that a technician would arrive on 4/6 between 10-2 (note the time change for the second time). On the day of the appointment (4/6) he texted me at 11:11am asking me "what day is good?" I responded via text that I expected him to come that day between 10-2 per the text and I sent him the text and email screenshots as verification. He responded by saying he never called me to confirm that, the computer automatically did that, and he would see what he could do. He then said he could come the next day (which would be 4/7) in the morning and said he always calls to confirm so if he did not call to confirm then it is not scheduled (as you continue to read on note that we NEVER spoke on the phone). At this point he has missed appointment #1. On 4/7 he texted at 9:03am that he would be here within 90 mins. At 12:40pm he texted that he was on his was from Haddonfield (10 mins from where I live). At 2:13pm I received a system generated text that his ETA would be 2:44pm. I checked again at 2:45pm and the ETA changed to 3:15. Now he has missed appointment #2. On 4/8 he texted me at 8:41am letting me know he would arrive between 9:30-10:30. At 9:26 he texted "please confirm". I called his number which went to voicemail and also the different number he was texting me from so that I could speak to him. He did not respond by phone but he did text back with his van broke down yesterday and everyone was informed (I was not), he was heading to me shortly, and he acknowledged that he missed 2 appointments. That concludes everything I can prove. So as you can see, I deem Steve Moore of Rubber Duck Plumbing to be: 1. Unreliable - I shifted my schedule for 2 days to accommodate the specified time slots only for him to fail to show up. We never once spoke on the phone. I received multiple text and email confirmations, yet he wants me to accept a phone confirmation as the only acceptable way of scheduling. I was willing to let a lot slide and allow him to perform the work when he said he was coming in 90 mins and also in Haddonfield (the second day of the appt). But once Day 3 rolls around, my patience has been OBLITERATED. 2. Unprofessional - in what world is it acceptable to send someone a text AND email confirmation and then not honor it because HE did not call ME to confirm? He broke his own rule if he follows that because again, WE NEVER SPOKE ON THE PHONE. He may need a lesson in how technology works because clearly there is a disconnect. His unprofessionalism also comes through in each of his grammatically incorrect text messages, rebuttals to other negative reviews, and his own bio on the Yelp page (cringe). 3. Unresponsive - I have called his number multiple times and even left a VM for a returned call and I was never able to get through. I have read various reviews and this seems to be a pattern with him. Based on the circumstances I have outlined above, I can confidently say that I WILL NOT recommend Rubber Duck Plumbing for any job no matter the size. I would give this company 0 stars if I could. We pay for an AHS home warranty on this this house for my parents, and they wouldn't give us another contractor despite numerous requests once we realized the kind person we were dealing with here. So, he finally went to the house, did who knows what, but didn't fix it (though he did break the door to the closet the hot water heater is in). So, once again we had to call AHS (for the 7th or 8th time). According to them, he was supposed to install a brand new hot water heater - and has been paid for the unit and install. Rubber Duck Plumbing came out to my house to inspect a sump pump which wouldn't turn off and kept running. After looking at the pump in the crawl space, banging on it a few times with his fist, and stating there was noting wrong with it, they collected the $100 fee associated with my Home Warranty. He also stated that he had never heard of a sump pump not shutting off and constantly running in his 30+ years of "experience". Well, low and behold, not even 12 hours after he left, the same problem manifested itself with the sump pump. It switched on properly to drain the well, and then kept running. I had to switch it off myself by unplugging it. I called Rubber Duck back twice over the next 12 hours and never received a call back. A complaint to our Home Warranty company resulted in him calling my wife today and leaving a voicemail to ask if "everything was OK?" This guy is a scammer, do not hire him. He never reported his diagnostic to our warranty company, and if he did, he probably stated there was nothing wrong with the pump. An easy $100 for him, a headache for us. We ended up calling another plumber who stated the magnetic switch was broken and we would have to replace the pump. I called American Home Shield, this past Saturday (10/14) as my water heater was leaking - a work order was issued, to Rubber Duck Plumbing & Heating. Upon, receiving their information from AHS, I called immediately, so I can be one of the first customers called Monday (10/16) morning. The policy for a work order call back is 24 hours - in this case that would mean the company, Rubber Duck Plumbing & Heating, would have until end of day today (Mon, 10/16) to call me. Just as a concerned customer would with any pressing matter such as a leaking water heater, I called Monday morning around 7:30am...no answer. Called two (2) more times (8:01am and 10:25am)...no answer - getting pushed to voicemail each time. At this point, I decided to call AHS to make them aware of the situation and see if there was another company on the books to transfer my work order to (which they did by AHS did - thank you AHS). While I was waiting (10-15 minutes) to speak to a AHS representative, I decided to do some research of my own to get an idea of past customer experiences with Rubber Duck Plumbing & Heating. All reviews across YELP!, Google and Better Business Bureau were consistent across the board - not good. What I found interesting were the reviews were coming from previous AHS customers, having the same issues with Rubber Duck Plumbing & Heating. Here are some extracts from those reviews "Not responsive"... "Just out to collect the service fee" ... "Worst experience" ... "Absolutely horrible service" ... "NEVER showed up" - don't get me wrong, there was one (1) or two (2) positive reviews between the three (3) websites - 24 total reviews in total. Once I connected with an AHS representative, brought them up to speed of what has transpired thus far - AHS helped look into the matter and informed me, the manager at Rubber Duck Plumbing & Heating, said he called me back - I never received a call. This just confirmed all of the negative reviews for Rubber Duck Plumbing & Heating - no integrity. Good thing the people at AHS were able to find me another company outside of my location willing to come and look at my leaking water heater. Although, I did not have a live in person customer experience with Rubber Duck Plumbing & Heating - the experience I did have with them was HORRIBLE. I do not recommend Rubber Duck Plumbing & Heating to anyone - I urge any and all customers to stay away. My only issue with AHS, is the fact they endorse Rubber Duck Plumbing & Heating as a reputable company - AHS, please cut all association with Rubber Duck Plumbing & Heating who are located in New Egypt, NJ. read more

The owner of the company seems to believe that he has no responsibility to communicate (either pro-actively or by answering his phone) when he is running hours late. AHS then called him and confirmed he would be making us his last stop but he never showed up and didn't respond to multiple messages. Like the rest of the reviews, do yourself a favor and DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I was originally given their number through my home warranty, but was unable to go through the warranty, so this review has nothing to do with the warranty program. Quick explanation: 2 days after i moved into my recently purchased house, my main drain backed up. i called my home warranty and they gave me rubber duck plumbing's phone number. After Steve (the owner) came and accessed the job, the warranty nor the homeowners insurance would cover the job so i had to pay out of pocket , which i chose Rubber duck plumbing so i can get the job done as quickly as possible, as i was unable to use any drains (toilet, water, etc.) This is where the problems really started......the contract included everything to be fixed, as well as a free clean out and camera inspection 6 months after the job was done. I had no problem with Steve until the job was done 3 days later. After he cashed his check, trying to get a hold of him was near impossible, and when i did get a hold of him after several tries, he would give me some story that always seemed made up. I tried to reach him to come out and cut the 2 pipes sticking out of my front lawn down to the ground level and i received nothing but stories. Stories included that he was away on vacation, he was in a car accident, and that hes trying to get front end help because hes terrible at calling people back (obviously). After three different attempts to get him out, I finally gave up. Now its 6 months later and I've kept my cool long enough. I didn't want to write a review in the past, mainly because I'm a nice guy and i didn't want to bash his company, but now its been 6 months and I've tried 2 times last week to get a hold of him to come cut the pipes and give me the free clean out and camera inspection he promised me in the contract and still NO ANSWER, both with voice mails. I have seen in past reviews that he has commented back saying its a warranty thing and its a slander thing. Yes i got his number through my home warranty, but i DID NOT USE him through my warranty but used him as your every day plumber. Within five minutes the tech said he had to replace a part sitting on top of the water heater, he then stated the water heater would not last long, they only last for 10 years or so. He cut off the water then replace the part. he let the water run a few minutes, he said to remove air in the pipes. I did not have hot water. He then lit the pilot and said I would have hot water shortly. I never got hot water. went I called him back he said that was a different problem. Worst service He said he stop the water from leaking this had nothing to do with the hot water heater. Without ever calling me, the company sent me notice that they would see me during a 4 hour window during a day that was hard for me to be there. But I was there anyway. They moved back that 4 hour slot on the same day, and then they came even later than the pushed back time! So I already had left. I had to call AHS to get them to call me, and when the guy finally did, he was mad that I didn't wait well past the window, and also that I couldn't do the first slot that he offered me, as if my schedule doesn't matter! Completely incompetent and unresponsive. Complete disrespect for my property - constantly dropping tools. Had to check my tub and tile for damage before he left. He was annoyed that I complained to AHS about his unresponsiveness and appeared to be unnecessarily rough, by banging on the pipes during the repair. Seemed deliberate. This is my very TL;DR rebuttal to the plumber's diatribe against my initial review: Specific quotes from plumber and responses: "This review is slander against our company" - Just wow. "to tell me to call his tenant whos number we did not have to set time and day with her, he could not confirm the 4th for the time set for her." - Not true. The time slot of 8am-10am was confirmed. Furthermore, the plumber was given the tenants phone # "We called on the 4th 8:40 am no answer, He text me back at 10:12 am telling me I might miss her due to a funeral she will be gone most of the day. He texted me at 10:12 am 2hrs after what time he suggested I show up to be there closer to 8am so I do not miss her." - This is a distortion of the truth. I have no record of any phone calls at 8:40am. I do have a record of the plumber calling at 9:20am, which already was pushing the time window. I immediately contacted my tenant so that she could reach out to him to see if there was still enough time since this is the tail end of the 8-10am time slot. Again, the plumber did not answer his phone and a phone message was left. The tenant was available until 10:30am but we heard nothing from the plumber about whether he could come out. At 10:12am I texted the plumber that we are outside of the time slot and we will have to reschedule since the time window is now closed. To avoid any further miscommunication I asked that he coordinate with the tenant directly for a time slot that they could agree to and stick to. Please note that in all of my dealings with the plumber, at no point has he ever answered his phone so we could resolve any scheduling challenges right away. Also it is important to note that this was already the day after the contractor had responded to the warranty company that they would be able to perform same-day service. Furthermore, the scheduling problems with the plumber continued for another 3 days until they finally were able to show up. "not the contractor working around the owners schedule" - This statement is staggering. Apparently with this business, the customer's needs are subservient to the contractor. "Our schd was set already and the tenant stated the problem went away" - Not true. The tenant said that the clog appears to have cleared, but the work order stated two problems. 1 being the clog. 2. being the tank leaking water. "we can not guarantee a time slot" - Of course there are always extenuating circumstances, but a time slot is there for a reason and the contractor should set a time slot that is agreeable to both parties and reschedule promptly asap if anything changes "The problem he reported was a stoppage only that is all not a runny toilet" "The runny toilet was not part of his work order" - Again, this is simply NOT TRUE. The clog and water leak was reported from the beginning with the warranty company and repeated several times. "landlord caused the problem buy installing and low consumption water saver in the toilet and put a rock in the tank to take up volume to use less water he created his own problem" - Not true at all. The flushing mechanism that broke was not a water saving flushing system. The rock was in there to hold down one part of the refill tube since by design of the flushing mechanism, the tube wouldn't reliably stay in place due to the strong water pressure. The water displaced by the rock was negligible and the toilet functioned for years just fine with that slight adjustment. "There is a pin that hold this retro fit kit together on the over flow tube to secure it and it was missing and it will not stay in place an it shifts when flushed and will cause it to run. His WARANTY policy dose not cover MISSING parts, it is not our decision if his warranty company will replace or deny the work." - This is just foolishness. The toilet has worked for years and with the flushing mechanism that broke, there were no missing parts unless one dislodged and fell off on its own accord, which is certainly possible. So because one small clip may have broken (or never existed in the first place with this particular flushing system design), and he is unfamiliar with this particular design and is assuming a flapper system design that has a very different set of parts and configuration, he decides the repair is not covered. - For more context, after all of this incredible aggravation with the plumber, I bought the flapper system myself for $20 and was able to perform a complete repair within 1 hour. The flapper system has a different set of parts and works differently than the broken mechanism that it replaced. However, both mechanism are functionally equal. In instances where a broken item can't be replaced with exactly the same thing, an comparable / functionally equivalent item will be used, which is exactly what I ended up having to do myself. "He also did not pay his copay" - Another egregious and 100% false statement. The copay was paid up-front. read more

This in not a new company, they changed their name: previously Moore's but still are not returning calls in a timely manner. After our last dealing with this contractor we cancelled our call out to them and accept a new contractor. read more

Came out on a warranty call for AMHS. Took forever and multiple follow calls with Rubber Duck and AMHS. All to get a bad diagnosis. Do not use this company- horrible horrible horrible. read more

One star is being generous for this company! I wish I could give less. This company was sent to our house by our home warranty company, AHS, for our sump pump. Our sump pump would not shut off. When Steve arrived, he told my wife the sump pump and the pit were broken and needed to be replaced but that it had to be pre-approved by AHS. We never heard that before. Usually repairs are done on the first trip. Steve said we would receive an answer from AHS in 24 hours or less. He also said he would not replace the pit because he was old and didn't do that type of work any more. My wife said he was very rude. After two days where we did not hear anything from AHS, we called AHS and they said they never received a claim from him and they would follow up. We called and left several messages for Steve directly - as they were predicting horrible storms for the weekend. We didn't receive a call back until the next week when Steve made racist comments about AHS's telephone service being incompetent and that we should hear from them soon. About ten minutes later, AHS called and said the repair would not be covered because Steve stated that a piece of concrete fell on the sump pump and broke (implying that we broke it ourselves). I explained the sump pump was over ten years old and it was regular wear and tear and we did not break it. AHS said they have to go with what Rubber Duck reported and that if certain buzz words are used, they automatically deny the claim. They also said that Rubber Duck would be willing to replace the sump pump for $575. This was the first time AHS ever negotiated a deal with a third party. Over the weekend, we had found someone else who could replace it for half the cost. Rubber Duck still made the service fee, though. Reading EVERY other review on Yelp, it appears this company has a scam going with AHS. I am not the first person with this complaint. As AHS told me, certain words that were used automatically cause a claim to be denied. This person knew to use those words. We did not break the sump pump. It was replaced by another company. read more

This company was referred by our Home Warranty Company to fix our tank less water heater. Steve Moore (the owner of the company) came to our house on August 8, 2017. He was late by 2 hours from the set appointment. He said that he could fix it but that we needed to contact Rinnai (the company who made the Tank-less water Heater Unit) to get the part. We were able to get the part in 2 days. Since then we had been trying to contact him through phone and email to schedule the service but could not get through. It was not until we contacted our Home Warranty Company that we were able to contact him. He came back to the house only to tell us that there were additional parts that needed to be requested from Rinnai which he will do himself. After 2 weeks, when he did not call to give us, at least updates, we called our Home Warranty Company again and it was only then that we were able to get some information. He claimed, at that time, that he still didn't get the parts, which we found hard to believe considering that Rinnai was able to send us the main part in just 2 days. Interestingly enough, a couple of days after that call, he said he got the parts. We agreed on a date but he did not show up on that day, saying that he came from Florida and was tired. Why make an appointment if you knew you had to be somewhere else? Suffice it to say, this further delayed the repair. We were going on the 4th week without a water heater by this time. When he finally came back the following week (he was also late for this appointment: the schedule was made for 8:30 am. He came to the house 2 p.m.), he made a show of trying to fix the water heater, making a big mess in the process, only to finally say that he couldn't fix it and that it had to be replaced. All this time, he never apologized or showed any empathy about our situation. He kept on blaming everything/everyone except himself. "I'm just the middle man" was what he kept on saying. After patiently putting up with this man for this long a time, we decided to just cash out the service. We were able to contact another plumber who was able to fix our problem in 2 days. All in all, we had not water heater for 7 weeks!!! read more

Rubber Duck Plumbing is terrible. Failed to show up for appointment, rare for them to return phone calls, and rude on the telephone when you do speak to them. Save yourself the time and aggravation. read more
