Doors locked. We all waited outside a half-hour extra. I found out later that they had taken down the event posters inside! So they canceled the event in advance & purposely did not notify attendees (Eventbrite = super easy to notify) out of some weird mix of spite & incompetence. Other folks told us later that this org does this often for different events w/ no explanation or apology EVER! Some drove an hour like me just for this event, so they would need a loan to comp these people at current gas prices! BOYCOTT them into non-existence!

The staff is incredibly dedicated to the center, studio artists, and future of Cottonwood. I see it grow more and more every week. They have fantastic exhibits to enter monthly open to the public. My first impression was, "The collection of art is really unique, stuff I've never seen before."…read more My first impression has its story. So after hearing from the owner of the gallery, their art collection is a compilation of work from local artists in the area. How cool is that? Everything is its own, and they have everything from paintings, sculptures, handcrafted jewelry (my favorite), photographs, and many others. It's definitely unique and original which makes it pricey if you're looking to purchase a piece of artwork. But if you're looking for something new to spruce up your wall, it's a good place to check out. They have quite a lot of different styles of artwork to choose from, and I stumbled upon a portfolio of Gene Trindl's work in Hollywood during his lifetime. I'm not sure if it was on sale, but I really enjoying looking through all the photographs of Hollywood stars photographed by Trindl. It's just a little interesting encounter on my part because I study media and Trindl is an American idol in magazine photography! (Check out mptvimages.com for some amazing works of photography). The lasting impression? "A great place to browse around for some inspiration of art or to find a unique item for your home!"

Great local museum detailing the history and life of Colorado Springs and its environs…read more The museum has a variety of exhibits which tackle this from a variety of angles -- famous authors, local Native Americans, the Springs as a tuberculosis treatment center, pottery art, women's art, local tattoo art, the history of the city by decade, the history of a lost Latino neighborhood, etc. All is curated and presented in an interesting fashion -- there was some but very little of the "We don't have a lot to say about this person, so here's random biographical detail filler" sort of local museum content. The breadth of presentation extended to a potpourri "A-to-Z" exhibit with bits of info about a wide variety of topics (did you know that Lon Chaney was from Colorado Springs?). We easily spent three hours touring the exhibits, and I count the time well spent. The building is the former El Paso county courthouses and offices, and is truly lovely. One of the courtrooms has been preserved as an exhibit. Staff was friendly. Admission is free (though donations are encouraged).

I'm very glad it exceeded my expectations. The tour guide Leah was amazing and very helpful in facilitating the tour. The sound quality is clear and very well balanced (sound mix guy is excellent at what he does) and the staff exceptionally courteous. We had a table for two at the Trixter/Pretty Boy Floyd Show and Christina was so nice to permit us to stay after sound check (we had tixs as part of the meet and greet) and she even allowed us our choice of table. Tixs for a table included a complimentary water (Monster water runs $6/can) and wait service. Sunshine Studios does not have a kitchen but a food truck is available for the hangry (Gyro Doner was in hand and the food was delish!) As for bevvies, the bar is stocked with the basics so the typical two ingredient drink items or beer can be ordered. Also note that Sunshine Studios will assess a 3% service fee at the bar for when paying by credit card. Tables run along the west wall and in front of the speakers so take note if you have sensitive ears. The rest of the venue is GA and ADA accessible. Sunshine Studios has merch as well. Tees run $25, patches and stickers around $5-$10, ear plugs $5. Some cool smoking paraphernalia is also available.

The entire park was taken up by a for profit beer garden. No room any longer for dogs or families. I doubt I will ever return with this setup in place. How does the City of Colorado Springs parks and rec department authorize park use for a for-profit beer garden. They should not get the park permit next year.
