A hidden gem of a breakfast diner! We went there for the first time with our almost one year old this morning and we were thoroughly impressed! My husband ordered the Rubin's Breakfast special, I ordered the Southwestern wrap, and we got the kids pancakes. Great variety, very affordable and the servings are huge (the kids meal was the equivalent of an adult portion). Pancakes are fluffy but crispy on the outside (the perfect pancake honestly). The potatoes were some of the best around and even our baby couldn't stop eating the wrap! We will definitely be back - and I'll take pictures of the meal next time and add/share! My husband and I have ordered from here two times. I got a Reubin sandwich both times. The first time we ate inside the service was really good. The restaurant wasn't very busy. It is clean. The person who served us was nice and attentive to our needs. She always made sure we were okay. The food was good. The sandwich was really good although it seemed like something was missing but it was still tasty. The second time was just at the end of February and we picked it up and ate at home. The fries weren't as good as they were cold but I guess that is to be expected since it wasn't from kitchen to table. The sandwich this time seemed like it tasted better and that is because I added extra sauce to it (that may be what was missing) . It was easy to order over the phone and speedy service getting the order done once I called it in. I really enjoy the food and look forward to trying more things on the menu. read more

I have ordered from here several times. Both my wife and I really like the food! Earlier this evening I ordered Fattoush for my wife (which we both like) and a large hummus for both of us and I had a BLT wrap for the first time. The BLT I had had too much bacon. The wrap was cut in two and I did eat one of the halves completely. The second half of the wrap I tried to eat, but I had to open it and remove most of the bacon from it. The bacon is in the freezer for use on some salads or something in the future. There was not very much lettuce or tomato in the wrap. The bacon flavor over powered the rest of the wrap. I may try this wrap again in a year or two. Other than than this wrap we like the food. read more

Most people know Rubins for their corned beef sandwich, which is fantastic. But hubby and I discovered they're open for breakfast too. We decided to give it a try and I have to say, we'll be back. The breakfast are reasonably priced and they taste pretty good. You can also order lattes, espressos & iced coffee drinks. They've actually got quite a few flavors to choose from. They have a display case in the front of cakes & pies that looked super good. I'll definitely go back here and have to try different things. read more

Second, if you drive a little farther, you can buy your food at Walmart, take it home and cook it youself! It will taste better! Oh, how much cash do you have on you? Probably not enough. They must have Stevie Wonder in the kitchen! The matza ball soup was a salty rendition of Lipton soup mix. The potatoe skins could have been a day old. My grilled ham and cheese was greasy and soggy. Now doesn't that all sound scrumpcious? The chicken wings I'm taking to work tomorrow. Fortunately I work at a hospital! So keep driving! Maybe to Panera. Disgusting! Stopped in for a coffee because the storefront says arabica. Bathrooms were gross. Ordered a medium latte with one pump of syrup. Couldn't even choke down two sips because it was literal sugar water. Cost over 5$. Throwing this drink away asap and I'm currently in Starbucks drive thru line. read more

I would like to start by saying that we had absolute great service here. The staff is friendly and efficient. The food on the other hand is mediocre at best. We ordered a meat lovers pizza that was dry and the cheese had a very off taste. The sausage on the pizza was banquet frozen breakfast sausage links and the ham looked as if it was thin sliced at the deli. The crust was dry and the pizza was very bland. read more

We got the fatoush salad and the chef salad, they were attractive. The dressing on the fatuous was flavorless, very bland salad. When I asked, "how is your chef salad?" Response was nothing special. He didn't like the dressing at all. The coffee was fresh and hot. The waitress was nice but meal took longer than we liked. Dessert case looked good but didn't try anything after being disappointed by salads. read more

Deja Vu. Menu reminds me of Joe's Deli in Rocky River, but cheaper. Rubin's was a positive surprise. Clean and comfortable. Portions are not as heaping as Joe's, but very satisfying. I'm totally OK with that. This was my first visit and definitely not my last. I enjoyed my wrap and the fries were hot. Brittany provided great service even though she had a few tables. She was in the back and kept peeking at her tables to make sure everything was good. I kept driving past this place thinking it was a dinky dump. What a pleasant surprise ! Really great food, service! The menu is pretty big; there's a separate breakfast menu from the lunch/dinner menu. I ordered a coffee and a ham and cheese omelette with potatoes and wheat toast. Everything was perfect and nothing was greasy. The dining room was very neat and clean, and the server refilled coffee in a timely way and was friendly and efficient. This is a great place if you're in Elyria and need a quick coffee or a bite to eat. Also, know that it's joined up with an arabica, so if you need your daily coffee fix, you can just pop in. read more

Stopped in for lunch with the wife. From the outside, I thought we were walking in to a small, older diner. Turns out it was bigger,cleaner, and more modern looking than I would have guessed. Service was good. Hostess and waitress were pleasant. I ordered a half pound burger ($8) and cole slaw ($2). Wife had a stir fry wrap sandwich ($8). Food seems fresh and tasty. I ordered the burger well done, but still had a little pink. The wrap my wife felt was a little strong tasting of soy sauce and said it would have been better if it was served over rice instead of the wrap. Both sandwiches came with a small bag of chips. This place is not bad, but not one to rave about either - there are quite a few lackluster things that factor into just an average place. It is clean and cordial (decorated and furnished with nice style and is comfortable, inviting). Most of the food items I've eaten lack flavor and seems rather dry. The portions are average and the presentation of the food varies. The wait staff experience is also variable - I have had less than desirable experiences and very pleasant, with everything in between. If you like coffee, espresso and sweets, then there is a little extra offering and incentive for someone to come for just a piece of cake or pastry with many selections of hot drinks, coffees and teas. The neighborhood, like the strip mall Rubin's calls home, is a bit beat up and showing its wear. This, coupled with the dingy and dare I say tacky decor, led us initially to call into question our choice to jump 10 minutes off the turnpike based on the great reviews Rubin's receives on this site. However, the friendly staff and mouthwatering desserts in the cooler quickly helped turn the tide in Rubin's favor before the food helped keep it moving in the right direction. The menu selections offer something for everyone, and our table took full advantage: Lake Erie perch sandwich (Fri. lunch special), kids' pasta and sauce, Philadelphian sandwich and a ham & cheese omelet. The perch, while somewhat overcooked, had a tasty breading, and the fries that accompanied it were crispy, hot and not too salty. The omelet was fluffy and to expectations, but the potatoes served with it stole the show -- thinly sliced, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The Phiadelphian's juicy pastrami and just-right right amount of coleslaw and dressing, was just as good as the rye slices between which it was sandwiched. The cheap bag of chips served on the side didn't do it justice. The pasta and sauce were OK, but save that order for an Italian place. Went for lunch with co-workers and was initially confused about where we were because right when you walk in, it looks like a coffee shop with a coffee menu a large case with cakes but the tables are actually located on the sides of the restaurant. The menu was large and had a lot of options. I ordered a garden salad with olives, tomatoes, and feta cheese. The salad was large enough that I was satisfied and the food came out fairly quickly. Ordered a menu item by the pound, (as I have done many times in the past). The containers they gave me wouldn't hold what I order. I told this to the (new) girl at the register. She told me she watched the cook weigh it and assured me it was the correct weight. I got my order home and weighed it on a "very accurate" coin scale. They shorted me a quarter pound. Went back to them with my order, and my own scale to show them. The girl at the register immediately got combative, abusive, and downright mean. Telling me there was something wrong with my scale. I was wrong, etc... Very condescending. Started raising her voice. I asked for the manager. She said she was and told me to have a nice day and started walking away. I asked her what she was going to do about shorting my order. She turned, and with the snottiest attitude I've ever heard said "what do you want me to do about it?" I told her to just make it right. She walked away mumbling absurdities under her breath. I heard her yelling back in the kitchen about "the customer up front". She came back, slammed what they shorted me on the counter so hard, the top of the container broke, and dismissed me with the same snotty "have a nice day." The next day, I called the owner. I found out very quickly why the employees treat their customers so poorly. It's because the owner does too. The owner immediately started swearing at me. About every third or fourth word was F**king this, F**king that, and then he continued about how employees are hard to find, his scales may not be accurate, but he doesn't have time to check them, and how there are bigger problems in the world than one of his employees being disrespectful to his customers, and if I didn't like the way he was running his business, that I didn't need to come back. Never, and I mean never will I, any of my family members, or any of my business associates give this restaurant another penny. On another note: Where do these people come from? The so called "manager", let's say Paige, I'm guessing around 18 or 19, was so lost when I ordered a pound and a half of a menu item at $8:00 per pound. After tapping on the POS machine for a minute, she looked at me and said, "a pound and a half at $8.00, so that's like $10.00 right? I chuckled a little bit and said "no, it's like $12.00." A manager that is incapable of doing simple math. This employee and owner deserve each other. read more

Right as I walked in Rubins Deli, I knew I was going to like the place. Not only do they have a large display case with sweet treats and great coffee, but their menu had a vast array of delicious food to choose from. The service was fantastic and the food was awesome. The restaurant was also very nice and clean. We will most definitely be going back soon! read more

This is a tale of two restaurants. The original, by Midway Mall, is great. Never had any problems in all the times I have been there. This location, at Chestnut Commons, is a completely different story. I usually have some sort of unnecessary and utterly avoidable problem when I come here. Service is incredibly slow for no apparent reason, the order is wrong, bill is wrong, waiting to be seated when nobody is there, etc. It's why I stopped coming. I finally came back today, and since it is pretty cold, I ordered the matzoh ball soup. I was amazed to find that the matzoh ball was cold. Not just room temp, but actually cold in the center, like it had come out of the fridge or freezer. The broth itself was lukewarm. The server was very good, and the rest of my meal was fine, but it is yet another problem that just shouldn't happen. I hate to post negative reviews of local businesses, because I strongly believe in and support the local economy. However, there just seems to be a chronic issue with details at this place. I will continue to go to the Midway location, but I am done with the frustration of the Chestnut Commons restaurant. read more

Horrible......we went for dinner last night about 6:30. When we entered the restaurant waited about 5 minutes to be greeted and when we were greeted it was a gentleman who was mopping the floor. The waitress came over to take our drink orders and informed us they were completely out of SOUP, yes both kinds were gone no more for the day! We ordered sandwiches ...which were greasy and not very tasty. Our waitress was rude and very abrupt to us ...the place was empty only two other tables having dinner. If I could give no stars I would, my family ordered Togo food. We had 2 of the T-bone steaks and they were horrible. We couldn't even get past the first bite, they were so tough I couldn't even cut it with my knife has to literally rip a bite off with my mouth. Plus the horrible steaks we threw away were $17 each! I wouldn't say this place is amazing, but it's a nice little quaint place. The Chicken Teriyaki Wrap tends to be soggy, and eventually tears the pita bread. It tasted good I must say though. Their cold wraps are pretty descent, but I kinda feel the price is a little high (not too bad though) for what you get. I would definitely come here again though.
