I love me some Mole. Hard to find a good Mole but Rudy's has one of the best I have found in town. I mean nothing compares to what my grandfather use to make but they do a good job. Really enjoyed it and even had some spice to it. For me it's comfort food. I will happily order this again. It's usually a special but would be awesome if it was on the main menu. There are a few Rudy's in the central coast but this one is my favorite. Super local vibe and nice cashier and staff. They have a nice salsa bar with marinated and chopped veggies to add to your meal. I get the crispy beef or chicken taco a la carte and it's a meal with the chips and salsa. This place is right down the street from the hotel I stay at while visiting Santa Barbara and is apparently known for their "Famous Crispy Tacos" and I see why. They are literally STUFFED with meat, cheese, and lettuce and are delicious. I ordered the combo with one chicken and one beef which also comes with rice & beans. The meat is so juicy and tender and the shell is fried to perfection crispness. The beans and fresh and tasty. I'll definitely be back on my next trip to SB. read more

Very longtime restaurant with the same great food I've come to know and love. I see Rudy's as a truly prominent fixture within the West Beach vicinity. It's a relaxed spot to indulge in fresh food after a long day at the beach, close to downtown but just far enough away that it feels like its own area. There's an airy dining room, good music, and one of the best salsa bars in Santa Barbara (to which there always seems to be a line). I like securing an outside patio table - there are only a few. There's a small parking lot out front and I'm typically always able to secure a spot. This place serves all of the traditional Mexican favorites. They do a wonderful Chile verde and their burritos are gigantic. This place is also known for their hamburgers and they are colossal. The food here is consistently fresh and flavorful. Pricing isn't the most affordable but I'd say it justifies the mere size of the entrees. Give this place a try the next time you're near West Beach and craving some serious food. read more

Our first time to try this restaurant. I ordered the combo crispy chicken and beef taco. Meat was tasty and loaded with lots of cheese and lettuce. I loved the Spanish rice as well as the refried beans. My hubby got the carnitas torta served with chips and retried beans. This too was generously filled with a lot of meat and condiments. Our visit to Rudy's... The lady that took our order apparently misunderstood what we wanted or just wanted to give us whatever she thought best! I ordered 1 chicken sope and got two beef sopes with rice! My spouse ordered two enchiladas and got two enchiladas with (extra) rice and beans. Although the food was good the service can use some work. When visiting a restaurant it's greatly appreciated when you get what you ordered. Not all the extras and definitely not what you didn't order. I'm not the kind of person to make a scene or spectacle of myself therefore I express my experience in my reviews. Rudy's was awesome! Stopped over here after getting a couple drinks at the neighborhood. Perfect drunk food :) I'm sure it is also perfect sober food. But this particular evening I had already had a few and needed something heavy to soak it up. Rudy's definitely did the job. On a Friday night business was bustling and Rudy's had a bit of a line going. But the 2 girls taking orders were quick and efficient. Prices were about the norm. I had a 2 item combination and it was $11. It was fricken huge! And I ate all of it! Perhaps the best Rudy's location so I am not surprised it's the OG location. Customer service is on fleek; I'm sure Rudy's has to deal with The Neighborhhood or The Brewhouse customers all the time! Wow! Got to my spot early at Santa Barbara city college - drove down the road and literally stumbled into this place. I ordered the green chili (that's what we call'em in NM) enchiladas and two tacos. Huge mistake!!! Waaaaay too much food. Jesus Mary Jane. I had maybe 30% of what I ordered. Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to have shoved it all In, but I had a presentation to give a little less than 30 minutes away and I couldn't go full R*]*}^{D on them. So, I backed off. I'm telling you, this place is as good as any of the other reviewers have yelped. It's a great little, quintessential authentic Mexican eatery that y'all should bookmark. Well wrote the time. Never coming here again! Over priced and less than mediocre when it comes to flavor. You have to use all the sauces and condiments from the salsa bar to make the food taste somewhat good. Got the shredded beef crunch taco and it was extremely dry and bland. Made the mistake of getting two because I was starving. I also ordered a carne asada quesadilla cause I wanted something cheesy and gooey. Well they give a lot of meat and cheese but the beef absolutely had no carne asada seasoning....it was literally just beef. My wife's taco had a toothpick in it. She said her burger was better than the taco. I also wanted french fries so I ordered a large to find it half empty. They were skimping out on the fries just because my wife ordered a burger that came with fries, it seemed as if they decided to combine my French fries with hers then divided it half. Updated menu attached! My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach when ordering today. The shredded beef crispy taco was huge; they deep fry the whole taco (meat and tortilla) then after it comes out stuff it with plenty of cheese, lettuce and tomato were served along side. I lived around the corner for a couple years in the late 90s and ate here countless times. I recently returned and the memories came flooding back. The menu has changed slightly but the service is still fast, the portions still generous, and the food is still so good! It still has the same unassuming ambiance, with much brighter lighting than is necessary. Gone from the menu is my past staple of a chicken burrito, which I used to take back to my apartment and eat over my coffee table with my cat hovering below, chicken juice dripping on her head. You can still get a burrito with chicken, of course, but I don't think it's the same one. However, there are plenty of other tempting choices on the menu. On this visit I ordered a combo burrito with carne asada, wet. It was a monster, a delicious monster. I think I would not order it wet in the future as I wasn't enamored with the enchilada sauce, but it was still very good. It came with a generous portion of sour cream and guacamole on the side, even though it contained both already in the burrito. The prices have of course gone up, but it still seemed very reasonable for the portion size. Glad to see this gem has not changed much, and that my taste even two decades ago was still on point. When I return to the area I plan to come back and re-try more of the menu! read more

Went for lunch today and everything was very good! First salsa bar I've ever seen that has whole serrano peppers as an option! I got the two item combination of a Chicken Enchilada and two Taquitos de Papa have to say it was A LOT! Best Rudy's in town and it's the original. The food comes out quick and the portions are very large. The salsa bar has at least four salsas as well as limes, peppers, cilantro, onions, and spicy carrots. The food here varies a little. Some days the burritos are larger than other days. This is a solid and perhaps the best spot in town for Americanized Mexican food. The interior is much nicer than your standard fast Mexican takeout place like El Sitio. This is a simple, straight forward restaurant. They make big huge burritos and there are lots of salsas to choose from. While their menu has a few categories, they can make almost anything you want. Prices are reasonable and they accept cash and credit. There's plenty of free parking in their private lot and a nice dining area. It's old school to say the least. I was instantly transported to the college days walking in here. It just has a very homey nice vibe. Rudy's is conveniently located near the freeway and other shops. Staff here is very friendly. The kitchen is open and you can see the chefs preparing food. They have authentic Mexican bottled beverages from natural sugar sodas to imported cervezas. The vibe is super casual, so feel free to stroll in here after a hike or on your way to the beach, but obviously dress appropriately. read more

Racist. I am white and I went with my Mexican friend to eat here. My friend orders and he asks for free chips, and they give it to him. I then order and asked for free chips and they told me I have to pay for them. I have never before in my life experienced racism at a restaurant, and I will never go here ever again in my life, which is sad because I like the food here. HORRIBLE! Ill never go there again! Sunday Morning, we walk in and Im already grossed out because Im watching them pour degreaser on the grill while Im ordering. I order the chilaquiles- waited 30 mins while the staff gives everyone dirty looks and treats you like you're an inconvenience. The place smells dirty, like old dirty grease. The trash can inside in the restaurant was swarming with flies, and there are cobwebs all over the place. We get our food, my plate is cold, topped with rotten avocado. I took one bite and it was overly spicy & cold. I didnt bother sending it back because the kids running the place there werent going to do anything about it. Divey but not too divey. Food seemed to be reasonably authentic for what that is worth. Chips were fresh, al pastor burrito was enormous and pretty good, and the horchata was definitely homemade. It was a little too chalky for my taste but fresh and homemade beats the sickly sweet stuff from the machine any day. (Try making your own sometime: it is not easy and it is crazy messy.) I found this restaurant while staying at a hotel down the street. I passed by it in the morning and the food smelled great. Went there for late lunch for my friends bday and the service was simply horrible. The lady at the register seemed bothered that we were taking the time to look at the menu even thou there was no one else waiting to order. I order a Carne Asada burrito, which had way too much rice and beans and hardly any meat. My friend order a chicken mile burrito and the same issue, overloaded with rice and a limited amount of chicken. Needles to say, this is a place to avoid. At least for me. read more

Ambience was fine and the food was very good and affordable. We ate dinner there and had breakfast burritos couple days later. Both good!
