I was in Reno on a trip recently, and I completely forgot my travel humidor with all of my supplies. Did a quick search and found this gem of a lounge! The lounge had a very relaxed feel walking in, and had that nostalgic smell of cigars without smelling like an old ashtray. I was also greeted with a smile from the lovely lady at the counter. They have a nice selection of sticks and the humidor seemed to be kept a a good humidity. But I didn't come for cigars, just took a little stroll through the selection. What I can for was an inexpensive pipe, some English tobacco, and a pipe tool. I was helped by a gentleman that I believe owns the joint -- did not get his name -- and was walked through some options for a few tobacco flavors they carry, and settled on the only English they had on hand, which was a Balkan Supreme, which I remember my brother-in-law telling me about, and the gentleman also offered a history of this award winning tobacco. I was also set up with a corn cob pipe at a great price, a simple pipe nail, and some matches -- I was all set! Meant to go back after my training and hang out but my training went late, so I enjoyed a bowl outside of my hotel, and I could not have been happier, thanks to Ruiz Cigars. read more

Came in here last week knowing nothing about Cigars but wanting a few for myself and my buddies for my wedding weekend. This is the greatest cigar shop that I have been to in Reno. Every time I go two things are constant: 1) amazing customer service and, 2) excellent cigar selection. I have always found the staff to be knowledgeable and friendly and every recommendation I have received has been stellar. Ever since I started coming here I have found every cigar I came in searching for, and after trying a Churchill of their own brand it will be tough to want to find much else. Considering the cost of the cigar, it was a very nice smoke - whole-bodied, smooth, medium draw, flavorful notes, and enjoyable from the foot all the way to the band. I have not had the pleasure of having a smoke there but I hope to soon - there are many places throughout the shop to sit quite comfortably and enjoy a smoke. All in all, I would highly recommend this shop to any cigar lover that finds themselves in the Reno area. read more

I'm in town for the week and picked this place out of a hat to get my cigar supply for the week. I am glad I did. The selection is great and the prices were very fair. The sweat were super comfortable and there are drinks provided in the back. Cigar people are some of the best people around, and this place exemplifies that. Not just the owner and workers, but the patrons were wonderful people. The social ambiance was very warm and comfortable. You feel free to strike up a conversation or sit in solitude. I did both. If I lived here, I would be here at least a couple of times a week. read more

I've always had a hankering (yes, I said hankering) for trying a tobacco pipe but never thought I was old enough yet...maybe I felt like I needed to be more distinguished first. Well, I finally tossed that notion aside because distinguished or not, I was finally going to do it. I called ahead to Ruiz Cigars (formerly the Tinder Box) and asked if they had pipe and tobacco. He said they did so I cruised on over. Upon entering I experience exactly what I expected and wanted...a room full of haze and about eight customers puffing away on cigars. Perfect! I spoke with the gentleman behind the counter and asked him about pipes. They had a decent selection, some new, some refurbished. I had a definite style in mind and none of the new ones fit the bill, so I moved to the refurbished ones which actually ended up being pricier. Fine by me since I wanted to start off with some quality. I found the one the suited me and then asked about tobacco. They had a selection of maybe six different scents...I'm not sure if this is sufficient or not, but he was out of a couple. He opened some boxes that were scattered across the back floor and found one that I liked. He set me up with a new lighter, pipe cleaners and a pipe tool. He was helpful but felt like he was a little lost behind the counter, or maybe he wasn't quite the expert on pipes as I certainly am not. They have an amazing selection of cigars which I'll probably return to sample/buy. However, at this point I can only give four stars, yet will be back to see if maybe it was the timing of my visit or something else and then possibly re-evaluate my review. I do look forward to coming back for either more tobacco or a cigar or two! Puff! read more

This is an update from my last review. Because I enjoyed the house brand cigars I bought and I'm determined to support local cigar stores I returned to give store another try. What a difference!! The gentleman working this morning was so helpful. He came into the humidor to see if I needed help. I was looking for a bundle and he called the owner at home to locate it!! I'm totally sold on this place now. I'll be stopping by whenever I'm in Reno. read more

Great cigar spot in Reno. Flew in from Atlanta and wanted to find a relaxing place to unwind from the loud cigarette smelling casino's. Ruiz Cigars was perfect.
