Steve helped me out with choosing out a cigar after I told him what I was looking for. It smoked real good and the price was very reasonable. The lounge area was very roomy and the smoke didn't linger around too much. I was worried about that because my usual lounge has a large filter in the ceiling. I've been frequenting Ruiz Cigars in Sparks for about a year now whenever I have a special occasion and would like to enjoy a fine cigar. The last time I was in, I joined their loyalty club. A benefit of this club is occasional text messages about upcoming special events. One such event was being sponsored by one of my favorite cigar brands so I asked my cigar-loving friends if anyone else was interested and one of them agreed. We decided to just meet there on the day of the event. I was a little surprised when I walked in and saw the store was empty, save for the man behind the counter, Steve. He must have seen the puzzled look on my face and asked if everything was OK. I asked him about the special event and he told me that was going on at their Reno store. Reno store?!? Yeah. I had no idea there was more than one. Since it was around rush hour and I was supposed to meet my friend here, I decided just to grab a smoke there and wait it out. When I informed Steve of my decision, he said their other store was "just down McCarran." I replied my need to relax with a good cigar far outweighed my desire to play Russian Roulette on the streets at rush hour. We both chuckled and Steve showed me to the humidor. I quickly picked out a few cigars from the beautiful assortment in their humidor, including one from my favorite brand. Once I paid, I settled down in a very comfortable overstuffed recliner and went through the ritual of lighting my cigar. I also took a minute to text the change of events to The Boss who responded she might drop by the store, too. She doesn't smoke cigars, but doesn't mind the smoke and ambience of a good cigar lounge. My friend arrived a little later and had the same reaction I did. When Steve delivered the "bad" news and offered to give him directions to the Reno store, I added it was "just down McCarran." Steve snickered and I explained the inside joke to my friend. A little while later, The Boss arrived. By this time, my friend and I were sitting in the lounge area enjoying a smoke with Steve. She say down in the recliner next to me as ked for the details of this change. I told her what had happened and it was my friend's turn to point out the other Ruiz store was "just down McCarran." This was how the rest of the evening went. We weren't the only people who thought the event was at the Sparks location and the "just down McCarran" joke lasted well into the night. A couple of other guys made the same decision we did and just stayed. Soon there was lively conversation amongst people who were, just a few minutes prior, complete strangers. That's the magic of a good cigar lounge. This is a local "chain," if you can call two stores a chain, and they stock a great selection of brands and include some hand-rolled ones made here in Reno. The prices are as reasonable as you will find anywhere in the area and the atmosphere can't be beat. read more

Hired these gentlemen for a private party at Boondox Bocce and from start to finish they were 5 star quality. They gave me prices when I reached out, they worked with us on dates, they were on time when setting up, they were charming, and it wasn't just rolling cigars. They shared their knowledge, they gave people background, and information on the types of cigars and leaves (?) they were rolling by hand. People loved them, AND the cigars they rolled. We were so impressed and I would recommend them highly for a party, or if you're into cigars, stop in their shop and talk to them. Was in town last week from Las Vegas and wanted a quick smoke & visited the Reno Ruiz cigar lounge. Luis was there and was VERY Accommodating. Definitely impressed by him treating customers like they should be treated. He was knowledgable about the great selection of cigars and I must say...they had great prices. Ruiz Cigars was at the Sparks Street Vibrations event recently, and the guy manning the booth was kind enough to let me use his lighter (my most excellent cigar had gone out, and my lighter was empty...argh!). His cigars looked pretty well rolled, so as a thank-you for his gesture, I picked up a couple for the friends/family humidor. Got home from the trip, and decided to light one up just to scope it out. So, the good side is that while mild (REALLY mild), it's a nice draw - and god knows the price is reasonable...$7/stick? Obviously not purchased in California for this deal! The downside is that the construction wasn't really up to what I would expect. I did a perfect cut, and spent the next 40 minutes dealing with an unraveling cigar...it got to the point where the frustration was greater than the desire to smoke, so threw away half of a bone. I'd probably try one again in a different size to see if it's just a sizing issue, but would stick around his booth to light up, just to be on the safe side. read more

I just went to their new location in Sparks and bought a few sticks, I smoked one at the Peppermill, holy s***... I may NEVER buy a "commercial" (no idea what else to call big company cigars) cigar again!!! I am going back next week and picking up a bundle. I received a gift of cigars, a rodeo set displayed in the front of the humidor, and enjoyed what I tasted so I decided to pay the shop a visit. The attendant welcomed us as we came in and made us feel right at home in case we wished to use the front lobby. He continued to help us pick several cigars based on our preferences and their own when asked. The cigars I originally received were a little dried out and the fresh cigars were incomparably better. I am no savant when it comes to cigars but with the help of the attendant I was able to get exactly what I was looking for and enjoy every second of the cigars I brought home. The point that brought this to a five star review and makes me want to keep coming back is the effort the employees give to go above and beyond. After I forgot my card on the counter the attendant came running out to our car as we about to leave the area and got out attention. I will make sure to go back just to get their name and try out the lounge as well. read more

I've been buying Marvin Ruiz's cigars for a couple years now and also have had him come to do a private party and rolling event. I've had the God of Fires, the Opus X's, the Casa Fuentes and all the other cigars touted as the best in the world and the best cigar I have ever smoked in my life was fresh off the skilled hands of Marvin Ruiz. Period. His cigars are amazing. You wont get any elaborate, fancy wrappers on your cigars. Instead Marvin buys better tobacco and just rolls a better cigar. And once you fire one up you'll really apreciate that. They also do private parties, corporate events and the like and they are very professional and extremely personable people. To put it into context, I was Havana in June and brought back a bunch of cigars and what I got at Ruiz were as good as or better than most of the Cubans.
