I lived in San Diego for 17 years and during that time I had Kaiser Permanent for my health care. I Had things diagnosed from their doctors but the only thing that would happen after those diagnosis were they were simply added to my chart. I.E. sinusitis, IBS, essential tremors high cholesterol, pre diabetes, my BMi was high etc. but none of these things were ever treated. I moved to the Desert found Dr. Perafan at Ruiz family practice and have had 4 appointments with Dr. Perafan over this past year and a half and she has not only addressed every single one of these issues she has got all of my labs in line. I no longer have issues with my BMI, no longer pre diabetic, my tremors are under control, I just had surgery to remove the polyps that were creating the sinus issues etc. I can go on and on. She is a Doctor that listens and addresses your concerns head on. She is on her game. I highly recommend her. read more

My appointment was canceled last minute (30 minutes before) because the doctor was unavailable. Felt as though I was not taken seriously. Whether that's because I'm a young adult or African American is difficult to pinpoint. For over two years, I received less than adequate care and was often stalled out and forced to wait. My SSRI was withheld multiple times, leading me to have (preventable) depressive episodes. I would be ignored at appointments and given no solutions; I would only be partially tested, and then have things ruled out without any conversation or further testing. Either they were taking advantage of the fact that I'm young and this was my first time at a doctor's office alone as an adult, or they genuinely were not interested in taking care of me. For nearly a year, they have been ignoring me after cancelling my appointment last summer. My inhalers, my SSRI, and my care plan have been gone since then. I deal with chronic pain. I was seen by TWO of their doctors and was treated poorly by both. They talked at me, did not hear me, and at one point one of them sprang a surprise pap smear on me and made me feel as though I couldn't come back and reschedule it... Not pleasant. I will be finding a new doctor, and hopefully they won't be as biased! I'm sure there are others who received great care from these doctors. They must have been lucky. I do, however, know about 5 members of my family who stopped going to this practice, though, because they did not get treated well. read more

The Most Incompetent and Unprofessional Doctor's Office I've Encountered in 70 Years I very very rarely write reviews, but my experience with Dr. Ruiz's office in La Quinta, CA has been so appalling that I feel an obligation to warn others. Two weeks ago, ahead of my scheduled shoulder replacement surgery with Dr. Savin (an outstanding surgeon with an excellent team, by the way), I was told a simple consent form needed to be signed and faxed back by Dr. Ruiz. That's where the nightmare began. * September 18th: I left a detailed voicemail for Dr. Ruiz's office explaining exactly what was needed. No response. * When I followed up, one staff member admitted they received the fax on September 15th but wasn't sure if it had been sent back. She put me on hold so another person could tell me they never received it. I'm 100% sure Dr. Savin's office has proof it was sent twice. * I was told two calls from Dr. Savin's nurse also went unanswered. So, I told her, "Pretend you're a new patient, and they'll answer immediately." Sure enough, that worked. This level of incompetence and indifference is beyond belief. My surgery has been scheduled for months, with family and professional commitments carefully planned around it. Because of this office's negligence, I've been put in jeopardy of postponement. To make matters worse, when I finally went into Dr. Ruiz's office to demand answers, his staff did nothing but blame Dr. Savin's team (completely false). I had call logs showing my attempts to reach them, and had they simply called me back on the 18th, 19th, or 20th, everything would have been resolved. The digital world does come in handy at times. No where in my call logs is there a call from Dr Ruiz's office!!! The staff wasn't interested in looking at anyway. And here's the most unprofessional part: I then get a call from his office saying Dr. Ruiz reviewed lab results (ordered by my surgeon just a week prior) but still wanted me to have lab work done. Fine. But because I was rightfully upset at the runaround, he DISCHARGED me as a patient altogether. OMG...really??? Imagine that: a doctor who doesn't even bother to hear both sides, punishes a patient for being frustrated, and essentially abandons them days before major surgery. No wonder the staff doesn't care...leadership starts at the top, and Dr. Ruiz clearly sets the tone. After 70 years on this planet, I can honestly say this is the worst medical experience I've ever had. If you are considering Dr. Ruiz as a family physician, think twice. If you are already a patient, you may want to look elsewhere. Based on my experience, this office cares more about generating billable visits than actually caring for patients. I don't know where to start... I was charged $10 just to talk to someone on the phone about my prescription, twice. The PA they have is rude and implied I had something seriously wrong with me but told me to forget she said anything. Dr Erica Ruiz is completely inept, she diagnosed me with a bad gallbladder, assigned me a surgeon and labs for surgery and my gallbladder was fine. She told me to stop taking vitamin D because it's bad for our bones and prescribed allergy medicine because I had dark circles under my eyes, I don't have allergies. Worst office ever!!! read more

I thought I enjoyed the office going there about seven years ago, but it has gotten worse with the unprofessionalism doctors not making the time to talk to you because they're too busy and they have to jump to the next room the next room to get out and not listening to your concerns, though I'm not expecting to have a cuppa coffee with them the office staff Elizabeth, who makes appointments is worthless. She must be a child at a grade school. UPDATE: As a nursing student, I need to be up-to-date on all my immunizations and do annual blood work to ensure I am immune to certain diseases. They make sure I receive all my shots during my visits, send me to get my blood work, and schedule my follow-up appointments accordingly. They have a patient portal where I can receive my blood work results from my home as well which makes it easy for me to keep track of my health and upload it to my school. Jeanne Perafan, NP is also great with women's health. She completes my Pap Smears so quickly and painlessly. She's the only one I will go to. She also addressed my questions on contraceptive use and listened to how I was affected in the past. From there, she recommended a form of BC and it has been working beautifully for me. She also diagnosed and resolved an issue I had of elevated yeast levels in my blood. Did I mention they provide allergy testing, as well? WORST place EVER !!!..Never met the doctor but the NP Branka Vidic is TERRIBLE !!!! Went in for my first appt and she wanted all kinds of vaccines that I said NO thanks to, then the one not mentioned during my appt, Shingrix vaccine was called into the pharmacy without my permission or any discussion. I went to get an inhaler for COPD and she told me the Albuterol I have been using was not good, but Trelegy , which has MAJOR BAD Side Effects was better. After I decided not to get the Trelegy I called and made a virtual appt. to discuss it with her. My appt was at 11:30 and at 11:45 they called and said my appt was being cancelled because I was calling about an inhaler and needed to come in so she could listen to my lungs, which she ALREADY DID the week before when I was in there. So the receptionist put me on hold to explain this to the Nurse Practitioner and gets back on the phone and says NO she didn't and you need to come in. So I said Screw you and your POS office I am out..Then they had the audacity to send what I assume is one of their nasty patient cancellation letters, like I have seen on many of these reviews so I Never opened it and RETURNED TO SENDER. I have been coming to this office for almost 2 years. In the beginning the staff was very friendly and on top of their stuff. They would take the time to call, do appointment reminders and would listen to what was going on. I had to reschedule my appointment twice due to not being able to find the time to get my blood work done (due to working season). This last time I rescheduled I made it a point to make sure my blood work was going to be done today, 11/30/23 for an appointment on 12/05/23. I had received about 4 missed calls today and a few from the last 2 days. Assuming it was the automated message of my appointment reminder I didn't bother to answer. Plus no voicemail. Today after receiving multiple calls back to back I called to follow up as I assumed it was an actual person trying to get ahold of me and not the machine, and I didn't know exactly who because again. No voicemails. When I spoke to someone on the phone they let me know that the person who has been trying to get ahold of me had cancelled my upcoming appointment and when I mentioned I hadn't received 1 voicemail and expressed that the last time i physically had one left was from 10/16/23 all I was told was "I don't know, that's just the notes she left" I've really seen a decline as far as effort from this office and it's disappointing that I feel now that I have to move on from this place due to there being no honesty. Dr. Erica is great, it's a shame that the office staff a has come to this and showed no empathy to what I was saying in regards to the no voicemails being left. I gave 3 stars because of my dr. Plus allergy dr. Because she was great as well. But the reception staff or whoever makes the outgoing calls needs to truthfully go through with their tasks. read more
