I come here all the time when I'm visiting from out of state, however I went in this time gave the bartender my ID, she then bends my ID saying it's fake without scanning it or anything and refused me service which is super unfortunate considering it's one of my favorite bars. We decided to try this because we had a restaurant.com certificate. But one step into the door, and the smell of cigarette smoke was overwhelming. My wife and I looked at each other and our common opinion was, "no way". A group of men hovered over their beers at the bar and there was no one to greet us at the front entrance. I am not sure this restaurant is complying with Florida law, because you're not allowed to have smoking when there's a certain amount of food sold. I would like to have given it a rating for food service but my wife and I made a U-turn before we could even greet anyone at the door. read more

Didn't read reviews before I came and missed that it's a smoking bar so I can't really blame them for the strong odor. It had a very strong ashtray smell! Once we left, our clothes and hair stank like ashtrays!!! However the bartender "Tony" was very nice. The food was cheap and good but simple. We visited this bar while vacationing here before relocating to the area. We went there for karyoke because my boyfriend enjoys it. There was a very nice female kj when we first visited that made us feel welcome. Tonight we drove 50 minutes to find a rude and disrespectful kj in her place. Drinks are good but a little pricey for what they are. Darts, pool and shuffleboard to entertain. Karoke 7 days a week. Bartenders were attentive, but it is likely we will not be visiting due to the rude dj. Also yes it is a bar with smoking because this is Florida. I myself do not smoke but it is to be expected that people are smoking in the bar. read more

Parked in the private lot and walked into the place. Greeted by 6 people staring at us we made our way to the bar and seated ourselves. We ordered a beer $5.50 and a water. They did have some decent selections on draft. we ordered some nachos to split. Unfortunately they were out of cheese so we were not able to enjoy a pile of chips like we wanted to. So, we opted to leave. The menu is very small but boasts a burger, chicken and some decent apps. From the looks of it the people there were only enjoying drinks. Every one of them was smoking and there is a nice sign that says "no cigars." That was the biggest turn off of the entire place. Sad, we liked it until we saw that sign. We more than likely won't return. It is is pirate themed bar including Pirates of the Caribbean. Nice outdoor patio. Staff was friendly and apologetic about not being able to make our food. read more

If you only have one thing here make it the alligator tail bites! They were outstanding. Lightly fried, not too greasy, yummy dipping sauce. The alligator wasn't chewy at all. It was very light tasting and the breading was just right. I had the fish sandwich. Hamma was the fish. The fish was okay but it wasn't my favorite. I had never had hamma before and I don't think I'd order it again. Just not my preference. The fish was blackened nicely, though. To drink I had a strawberry daiquiri and it was delicious. Our server was great. Very personable. We saw a dolphin from the waterfront deck! Everyone enjoyed their meals. Great spot to sit on the water and soak up some rays. read more

This place is NOT on the water. It's a bar -- a crappy, dive bar! NOT a place to take kids... a smokey, stinky, dirty bar that had the doors open and no a/c running when the day was 85 degrees outside. The food was less than great and grossed me out when the bartender told me she was also the cook. (I pray she washed her hands before making our food.) The fries and chips were tiny portions. They were supposed to have 25 cent hot dogs but there was a piece of paper over the 25 and they were 75 cents each. Ripoff! $2 for a soda and no refill... $4 for a weak, watered down vodka and tonic. Very minimal food menu. People were NOT overly friendly and bartender/cook told us we must be there because we had a Groupon as she knows all of the regulars. Nice way to make one feel welcomed... :/ Will NOT go back and not sure I'll ever do a Groupon coupon for a place to eat again -- unless it's a well known place. NOT PLEASED WITH HOW THIS WENT. $10 spent for $20 in food credit and we still had to hand over another $10. BAD BAD BAD!!! read more

Ate lunch here... was not impressed. I ordered their blt CHEESE burger. What I got had no cheese at all and no flavor either. Bartender was friendly enough. However I would NEVER eat here again. Have you ever seen the movie Hot Tub Time Machine? Well, last night I think I took a ride in that thing and landed in 1998 Palm Harbor. Even for a dive bar, this place falls a little short for me. Maybe it's the outdated wood paneling on the walls. Maybe it's because most of the televisions were last updated 15 years ago, or maybe it's the large eyesore air filters directly on top of a lot of the tables. The bar tender and karaoke DJ were nice enough, but the sound system was one of the worst I'd ever heard. Regardless, the folks who were sitting around the bar gladly participated in karaoke, and seemed generally happy to be here. Fortunately for me, the hot tub time machine departed back to the future and my visit was limited to about 30 minutes. read more

'Can't believe I'm the first to rate this place. It's in a great location with full bar service and a lively daytime trivia scene. Marketing efforts seem schizophrenic, with confusing weekday drink specials. The bar staff seem to go out of their way to treat people well, and you'll be welcomed by a group of friendly regulars. Food choices are slim, but there's a good pizza place across the street. Bring your reading glasses as temporary signs advertising a range of (ever-changing) promotions will tax your senses. Rum Runners - Where locals go to grab drinks at a smokey dive bar in Palm Harbor. Oh, they also go there to sing karaoke (poorly, I might add). I've been here a few times with friends, but have never been too impressed. The place is usually pretty busy (not too sure as to why) and understaffed, which adds up to a wait at the bar. The karaoke sound system is horrible. That combined with the crappy drunk singers who think they are the next American Idol and it makes for a pretty painful performance.I don't particularly care for the atmosphere too much overall. We have been coming to this bar for many years. The bartenders and owners and KJ's are awesome hard working people. I'm not a smoker and yes sometimes it's a little overwhelming but the great friends and staff make it worth it. I don't sing karaoke but my boyfriend does as well as many of our friends. Perfect place to come and have a great time, enjoy the atmosphere and just relax! If you don't smoke, don't sing karaoke and don't want to be around some great people, then maybe it's not your bar but thanks for stopping in and checking it out. Mean words and disgust because it's not your thing is not necessary, you can't please everyone but don't ruin it for others. If I could rate this place a true rating, it would be ALOT less than 1 star. I HIGHLY recommend to not ever step a foot into this place. Saturday night I arrived and went straight to the bathroom, within seconds I was bombarded by 2 females offering me to do coke. I declined as I don't do drugs.. I asked them to get out so I could use the bathroom and they refused. 3 more females came into the bathroom and cornered me and wouldn't let me leave unless I snored Coke. Again I refused. At this point they were getting aggressive. The bathroom door opened and they all ran out and the bartender who had her sides of her head shaved with maybe purple or blue color in her hair came in, gripped me up by my throat and threw me out of the bathroom and accused me of doing drugs. I tried talking to her on the side and tried to explain everything and she screamed in my face calling me a liar along other things and told me to get out. I asked to speak with the manager and he screamed at me with profanity and also told me to get out or he was calling the cops. I again calmly tried to explain the situation and he then proceeded to put his hands on me. How these people treated me was completely unacceptable. I recently learned that this bar has been shut down due to people doing and selling drugs. So I'll be making some phone calls and report them again and again. This situation could have took a turn for the worst, those girls did not have good intentions and the fact that I was from out of state and the bartender or manager did not care at all what was really going on, just shows how this place is ran. Local smoke bar with limited menu. States happy hour from noon to 7p but the prices of drinks do not reflect happy hour prices. $3.75 drafts..nah. The real happy hour kicks in at 8p-midnight. Signs say low prices on craft beer...$4.50-$5.75 a draft is not a low price for craft beer...it's the standard price. You can get seadog craft beer pints at codys in clearwater for $2.50 all day long at the bar. Or at brown boxer on us19 on Tuesdays till 7p. Would not recommend for the day drinker. But if you enjoy drinking at night with all the local smokers singing then this is your place. For me, I had my fill after one visit! Gave it two stars cause the bartender was nice and understood the strange pricing system for the "daytime happy" hour. MEH! read more

This is not the location with the alligator bites. This is a bar that just happens to sell some mediocre food. Come here to drink, but don't bring the kids. The burger wasn't good and the portions were tiny. The twenty-five cent hot dog was seventy-five cents. Smoking is permitted and the bartender is the cook. I shouldn't neglect to mention that there is no air conditioning! The other reviewers who loved the place are obviously thinking of a different restaurant of the same name. Went for karaoke, the dj was rude, disrespectful old man and complained about having to get off the bar to come to the stage. He complained that we didnt come earlier in the night and was trying to leave early. No one else was doing karaoke that night. So I guess he expected to lean on the bar all night and collect a paycheck. The bartenders were nice. read more

I bought a Groupons for this Place ....So First time we ate there ....The Bartender took/stolen most our french fries and ate them... For Real! they do not make there own food ..they up charge and order it from from a place a few doors down that makes the food and Deliveries it to them i guess through the back door and then the Rum Runners bartender re-plates the Food and gives it to you ...what happened is we order a side of fries for $3.89 so we got are food and she gave use a small plate with about 10 fries on it and 2 huge plastic cups full of ketchup that took up half the plate this is the truth maybe 12 fries...anyways as i looked at our french fries i thought this is a joke...i seen she had her own plate of fries that was bigger then ours which she was trying to share the fries with the (only)2 other people in the bar ..i said to my Girlfriend...i think she has most our fries ...so i asked the bartender a little later if they had there own cook, she say no we get it from the place next door and then she plates it DUH! i bet she never washed her hands!!! ..... so when we left i went next door and asked them how much fries they give for $3.89 and they showed me a Quart bag full of fries that were frozen they said that they make up every bag and weigh so they always give the same amount on every order.... they showed me the bag and it was a lot of fries it was about 3x more then we got so i told them what had happened and they told me there was only 1 order of fries delivered to them...and there was only 1 other couple in the bar with us for the last few hours so no other orders were order ... they said after the order is Delivered to them they said then rum runners plate the food and serves it....so she did take most our fries and ate them!!! .... she in a older bartender she has been they for a awhile as she was telling us....i was so upset what she did to us! and think i was that stupid.. I know when she reads this she will probably remember it OR unless she dose this often ...and if she did it with our fries God only knows what else she has done it with and how often ? read more

I don't know what Rum Runners anyone else went to, but the one we went to was a local bar, loaded with smokers! I have nothing against those who chose to smoke, but I really don't enjoy smelling the cigarettes while eating with no fresh air or anywhere to sit without having to smell it. We had a coupon & decided to go. It was located in a mall that appeared to be ok on the outside. Upon entering, there was a big bar and high to tables all around, each with a huge ashtray on them, not an eating atmosphere at all . We almost decided to leave, but the barmaid was so nice, we decided to try it anyway. We ordered a drink & had an order of nachos along with an order of chicken tenders. The nacho order was huge & came with all the typical trimmings minus quacamole. The tenders were pieces of breasts, breaded & deep fried. Very moist & tasty to our surprise. The food was good, but our clothes did smell of the smoke after we left. Can't say I will go back although I am sure it's a fun local place. PS. I have no idea where the water view was either. read more
