Sandwich Culture is a straight up great place to grab a sandwich on the go…read more With cheap but appeasing teas, coffees and hot chocolates, it's a hot spot for people snacking on their lunch break. They have soup of the day, toasties, full breakfasts, ridiculously well priced baked potatoes and a number of sandwich fillings to see you through a day at work. If you're stopping by for leisure purposes, there are a few fold away tall chairs laid out so you can prop up the bar by the window. But this is a more functional sandwich bar rather than being somewhere you'd sit in. It's clean and cosy, but always crammed full of people waiting for their takeouts so if you're going to stay awhile I'd recommend coming first thing on a Monday morning. It's not black tie dining or an ambient coffee shop, but it does the job if you've got a grumbling belly at lunchtime. Fills a gap and is tasty enough!

As a lunch time stop it ticks all the boxes and will guarantee a pleasant and of course most importantly a tasty lunchtime - quite frankly what more can you demand of a shop. The prices here are very reasonable for what you are getting and you'll be able to mix and match to suit your taste which is always a nice touch. The only problem here is that it can get quite busy during the busy parts of the middle of the day - it's a bit of a victim of its own success in this respect - so give it plenty of time in peak hours when you think it might be busy. I've never heard of anyone with anything bad to say about this shop and I'm sure the same will apply to you when you give it a try.

There is usually a line outside this simple restaurant but possibly due to the light rain, the line was fairly short when I went. I only waited for like 5 minutes. The menu is simple as the roasted hog/pig is the only thing on the menu. You can choose a few things to customize the sandwich or even order it in a box. I ordered the Oink size (medium) on wheat bread and chose sage and onion for my topping and then the Homemade Mustard Mayo for the sauce. They make it in front of you and it is fresh and very tasty. Unfortunately when I went they were out of cracklings. They wrap it in foil and hand it to you. Pretty simple and efficient. I love that the outside of the building is painted pink like a pig (coincidence? Probably not). This is a good place to try for a quick, cheap and yummy sandwich. They do this one thing very well. Please open more of these!

The sammiches come on a big, soft, delicious roll. And they're filled with a generous portion of pulled pork. You get to customize them a little bit by selecting your bread, the size of the sammich, the stuffing (sage and onion or the homemade haggis), and a variety of spreads (apple, homemade mustard mayo, homemade chili cheese, and homemade chili jam). My wife got the sage & onion, and I opted for a haggis filling. We both very much enjoyed our rolls. They were very filling, and the staff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. The haggis was unique, but we are very familiar with pulled pork sammiches back home. We really enjoyed our meal and would definitely recommend Oink to any hungry travelers in Edinburgh.

While the city might have "Reeked", this sandwich certainly smelled good. Auld Reekie sandwich piled high with pulled pork, tomato, I believe onions and an aged cheese. Broccoli slaw on the side. I also had a chance to try the Ibn Bru soda. Reminded me of my favorite soda: Colombiana. Good lunch here served by friendly staff. It's always great supporting local business when traveling!

The Sandwich Shop is like most Scottish establishments of the same nature- tiny eating area and carb-heavy food. But one way it differs is selection- although primarily offering 'breakfast rolls' (served all day) and sandwiches, the possible filling combinations are many. Relatively rare items- such as jalapenos- abound. Another way it differs is value. For just over 5£ I got this: a sausage link breakfast roll; a small soup of the day (tomato and chorizo sausage); a salami sandwich with lettuce and jalapenos, in combo form alongside a bag of salt & vinegar Walkers crisps, and a bottle (yes, bottle- not a can) of sugar-free Irn Bru. All that for JUST OVER 5£. My meal filled me up and that is rare. But here's the kicker, Yelp- the woman who made my sandwich- she literally covered it in jalapenos. This was not a typical, single salad-tong-full of four or five slices spread over the length of the sandwich. She carefully placed the jalapenos in a spicy blanket over the entire surface area. Perfection. For a tiny, cheap sandwich shop- THE Sandwich Shop lives up to its name.
