My friend and I went here for a nail date--I got a shellac mani and regular pedi, my friend got a pedi. When I arrived I was a bit dubious--the place is a little older, albeit clean, and there were only 3 gals working on 4 people. We had to wait a little bit, but once we got going, it was great! The gals were quick and my nails turned out great. I am a little concerned that my shellac won't last as long, because she didn't put down a base coat and cure it, but we shall see! I walked in on a Wednesday around 1pm and asked if I could get a manicure. There were 2 ladies getting pedicures but they were almost done. All the girl said was "we are busy." I asked when would be a good time to come back and she said "uhh I don't know." WHAT! I live really and have been in there 3 previous times. It was really convenient for me to walk across the street but it's definitely worth driving somewhere else and getting better customer service. I give 2 stars because 2 of the ladies here are really nice, however, this place is filthy. They will literally drop utensils while working on you and pick them up off the floor and not clean them and try to continue using them on you. It is so strong smelling, there is no way they have any ventilation. I had a pedicure once with the owner and she walked away without saying a word and went to do a 15 minute wax and then came back and didn't even apologize or explain why she left me. We came back and 4 more people were there and we still had to wait for 20 minutes before they could get to us. Ladies are very sweet and do a good job, but pedicure chairs are worn and many have rips. Rumor nails is practically right at the end of my block & I knew they had great prices so I was really excited to try this place. I went in to get a gel overlay & the girl ended up doing acrylics. I asked for a solid color & she insisted on no polish. She was a sweet girl but she didn't seem to have a clue what she was doing. She kept glueing on the wrong sizes & then riping them off to try again, the result was crooked uneven nails that flared out at the tips with lots if bumps & bubbles! When I made it home I realized how misshapen they were & had to go through & file them myself to make them look even half decent and to top it off My fingers were literally bruised for days afterwards. My worst nail experience by far.., I guess you get what you pay for! read more

I just starting going to this place with my mom and have to say it's actually not half bad. The nail tech's are quick and very sweet. And the prices can not be beat anywhere else. The only things that did bother was the amount of dust in this place, and watching the girls clean the bowls for pedicures. I felt like they could have put a little more into their cleaning of those bowls and I am not sure if I would get a pedi there again. Tina and her staff will work their hearts out for you until you are pleased, and the price is right. First and last time going here. Pros: my nails look pretty Cons: doesn't seem like they sterilize their tools. They keep them in what looks like a pencil holder you had in elementary school. The buffer they use to exfoliate you feet has obviously been used multiple times on multiple feet. They talk Vietnamese to each other the whole time, seemingly about customers (think Elaine in that Seinfeld episode). The language thing doesn't really bother me, but may be important to other people. My nail tech left during the pedicure for a 5 minute period to do God knows what. They have cheap brand nail polish that I've never heard of and they kept asking if I wanted to "upgrade" to a better brand (like OPI) that would last longer. I'm not sure if that would've been an extra charge but the way they were selling it surely seemed like it. And if they know they have polish that doesn't last very long, why not get rid of them? They are great for a mani, but I usually go somewhere else for the fakies. They don't do a bad job just I've had better! ; ) But all in all great price, very friendly. The girl did a great job, but the woman who seemed to be in charge was very rude and off putting. I left with my toenails still wet after she pulled the sponge separators out while I was paying. If you're judging based upon price alone, Rumor Nails would score highly. Sadly, you get what you pay for. There was but one single jar of the blue barbicide in the entire salon, with one pair of clippers in it that no one touched. Not a single tool was disinfected by any member of the staff while I was there! This is hands-down the least hygienic salon I've been to and if the situation had been different and I could have left immediately without offending the party I was with, I most definitely would have. I go to Rumor Nails once every two weeks. They have recently remodeled and it is now up to a good standard in terms of freshness. It's not a spa environment -- no floating flowers or hot stones. It has three attributes that have kept me coming back for thirteen years. 1. Woman-owned. The owner and her sisters work very hard and they are successful, independent women. No shady feeling that the techs are being taken advantage of here. 2. Reasonable prices -- they have not raised their prices in the 13 years I've been going there. 3. Consistent quality -- unlike some of the other reviews, I have NEVER had a burn while getting a rebase. If you are specific in what you ask for (eg: I want this to last, I want them (shorter/rounder/etc) you will get what you need. They have oodles of colors to choose from. I have also had waxing services done. Every month I get a face wax, leg wax, and eyebrow wax. They do a good job. Over the years, I have learned their stories and become friends with the ladies. I called ahead on a Saturday and they were ready when we arrived. They were friendly and polite. They did a really nice job and I asked for some little flowers and she ended up doing these really beautiful flowers on my big toe. I stopped in this salon Friday afternoon for a quick mani before meeting friends for dinner. The technician that worked on me worked very quickly, too quickly. She hardly filed my nails, and my cuticles may have looked worse after I left then before I got there. A good mani should take more then ten minutes. About halfway through my manicure, something happened that I couldn't believe. And quite honestly looking back, I should've left right then and there. i have been going to tina for about 4 months now. something has always seemed odd about the way the products they used. my nails were always lifting off within 2 weeks of getting them done. every time i went back and told them they would say i needed to come in more frequently or that i needed to shorten my nails. i was tired of the excuses. went back to my original salon and i found out i have fungus under my nails. i am not happy at all and i will never go back there again. also i was paying for a gel rebase but come to find out i was getting acrylic this whole time..no bueno!!!!!!!!... read more
