I have taken all my foster dogs to Run-A-Muk to get a gauge on how they do in a group setting. The staff and especially Gael are there to ensure all the dogs are playing safely and enjoying their free play. Gael has helped me with training and is such a valuable resource. I and my little friend Gordo just love this place. At first I had apprehension, but once i got there and spent a few days visiting, my apprehension was resolved. Callie, Gael, and there team have got this. They have mindful, educated approaches to your dogs visit, with a watchful eye on the playground making sure the dogs are cared for, to say the least, my furry friend WANTS to go there to play. This in itself is what's important. The dogs have to show there love and that they do. The whole team seems like family! They run a tight ship managing all they do, and it shows. read more

We had been very satisfied clients for a couple years and our dog loved going there. We boarded her quite frequently when we traveled . And we also used daycare. Then new management took over. Almost everyone working there is new and it is not the same friendly atmosphere. They have also had 2 price increases since they took over. When we used to call for reservations for boarding they would let us know if she was due for any vaccines . We dropped her off for Boarding for three days! And when we picked her up they advised us that she had been in quarantine two of the days because she coughed. I was surprised and ask when was her last Bordetella vaccine and they told us it had been about four months prior. So evidently they don't require boarding or daycare dogs to be up-to-date on vaccines! I wasn't very happy about that or the vet bills. read more

My dog is 14 months old and is a bundle of energy. Taking her to Run-A-Muck helps her to expend her pent-up angst and allows me to run errands and do needed activities/housework. My Vet, Thumb Butte Animal Hospital, recommended them highly and my Vet takes her dog there. I felt reassured. The staff is friendly, the evaluation was helpful and my dog Loves to go there. My dogs love this place and so do I! They did a thorough behavior analysis and only let them come half day at first but we are at full now. The evaluations made me feel assured that they wouldn't allow aggressive or nutty dogs to ruin the experience there. Everyone is so kind and sweet. Their behaviorist Gael gave me some advice to help with a behavior problem at home and it definitely helped. Their drop off and pick up hours are super convenient too. Couldn't be happier. read more

I'm not sure where the good reviews come from or if maybe they delete the negative reviews or perhaps it's gone downhill since the positive reviews. Took my pup for an eval and let them know that is former doggy daycare of 4 Years said to tell them he likes to bark pretty much all day. He passes the eval and they say ya he barks but it really isn't a big deal. If you board him ever we just won't put him out in the yard early in the morning. Fast forward a week and I take him for 1/2 day doggy daycare. About an hour after I drop him I get a call from a young man who says he is barking too loud??? Um okay I told you this at the eval and it wasn't issue. To which he then changes the narrative to well he seems stressed. Okay, can you call his former daycare and speak to them. Upon picking him up again the complaint is well he just barks really loud (he's a big dog) but we did call the other doggy daycare and they gave us some tips. But he just barks really loud. In talking with several other neighbors who got the same "seemed stressed" phone call it seems like they want dogs who will simply lay around all day. If they want to play or bark then that's a no go. Also, be aware all their yards are outside no matter the weather (rain, snow, heat) so plan accordingly if you do decide to give them a try. Our pup, Eastwood loves this place. He knows it as "school". When I am planning on taking him to day camp, I ask him if he would like to go to school to see his friends. His eyes light up and he starts whining and nudges the leash that is hanging by the door. So cute! So happy to have a place in Prescott where he likes to go for the day! read more

They squirt your dog down if they don't behave even if it's freezing outside? Last night when I picked up my dog he was wet and I asked the front desk why and she said for some reason the dogs got wet today. Later the other lady admitted that they hose the dogs down if they misbehave. Also there was some other dog running around soaked behind the front desk too. They don't supervise your dog or interact with them at all. How do i know since they don't give you a tour or have a webcam? Because my dog had chunks of wood and rope in his poop. We don't have that at home. These recent experiences defeat the purpose of taking my dog to day care here. read more

I hate leaving my dogs for any reason, but sometimes you have no choice. I searched many options in the Prescott area, and after meeting the owner and taking a tour of the facility, I chose these folks to care for my 2 kids for the 2 nights that I had to leave them. When we picked them up, they were of course glad to see us, but I knew they were well taken care of. I also liked the idea that they would be outside most of the day, in a supervised setting, rather than confined in a cage or a small indoor room. I would recommend this place , and will use them again if the need arises. read more

My dog and I both liked this day care. Staff was friendly and accommodated our short notice. The four hour review went well. On return the next day, my dog was happy to run out to play. I like them a lot. Was originally suspicious because of no tour but now they have cameras up front so you can view what is going on in the back. Dog always seems very happy to go and people are very friendly and nice. Only issue for me is that although the dogs are outside all day (which can be a plus) there is not much room inside for when its cold or raining. So if we need to do an early morning drop off, when Prescott can be quite chilly in winter, I am a bit apprehensive. They do have sweaters they put on the dogs. Most days though it warms up by mid-morning so no worries then. They have very flexible hours and are reasonably priced (esp compared to prices in So Cal). All in all we are very pleased. read more

This place is great. Our 1 year old Rotweiler Brutus just loves this place. It has been great for his training and social life so he can be friendly and accustomed to other dogs. When we pull in the parking lot he can't wait to get in. After being there all day he is tired and gets all his puppy energy out. We try to take him 2 to 3 days a week which really helps with his energy levels. We recommend Run-A-Muk. read more

At first, I was put off by their "assessment" process. The woman scheduling it was curt and seemed condescending. However, on the recommendation of two different neighbors - both of whom had nothing but great things to say - I decided to give it a try. It has been 2 months now and I am very, very happy with everything. Our dog is a 1.5 year old King Charles Spaniel and needs lots of attention and love. We have left him for a number of full days, and just recently we left him for 7 nights boarding. Every time we pick him up he is totally happy and the staff is always there saying good bye with love. The best part? When we drop him off he can't wait to go in and be with his friends! read more

We have a small yorkie and needed a place for her to stay for the day. When I called to set up her assessment they said since she is older and little they would have her stay in the office. I confirmed this when dropping her off with them and was told she could stay inside. Needless to say when we picked her up she had been left outside! I know our girl is a little spoiled, but staff should have been honest when promising to keep her inside. :( read more

Our dog, a Jindo is a very sensitive and accurate judge of people and environments (probably due to her feral nature associated with being a Jindo), and she loves the people there and loves going there. Equally important, it is quite obvious that they really love the dogs, and are happy to make an extra effort to accommodate special needs due to age or whatever. Finally, they are very careful to fully evaluate every dog for aggressive or other potentially dangerous tendencies, which I can say from experience, is not the norm-- no matter what a pet boarding/sitting company says. read more

We used this facility several times on a recent visit to Prescott and were extremely happy with the service. The staff were all very friendly and obviously very caring for their charges. Our dog spent his time in the front office with other small dogs. I see that some dog owners are unhappy that their pets were not judged acceptable, but from my viewpoint it is best if Run-A-Muk errs on the safe side and rejects any questionable dogs for the safety of those animals that they do accept. read more

My Lacey loves Run A Muck and their dog loving staff. At first she was a little timid like a kid going to kindergarten for the first few times. Soon all I had to do was ask her if she wanted to go play with her friends at Run A Muck and she would jump and bark with anticipation. The staff love their animals and treat them very well. As a aunt of a K9 officer for Yavapai County Sheriff's Office who trains handler's and their dogs I understand many of the reasons pertaining to the concerns of some of the reviews. First as far as the assessment process goes the new dogs usually are put in a separate but joined space for a couple reasons. First being for the dogs safety both new and established. They are closely observed to look for any aggression from the new dog. Number one concern is for the safety and health of all concerned. The last thing they need is to put an aggressive or fearful new dog in a huge area with 30+ dogs. Caution is the smart way to go. Let them see the other dogs running, playing and soon they will see it's fun to be there. Also tours of the facility are not allowed do to insurance concerns. Mike and his staff are dedicated to the animals both big and small. Funny every time Mike goes past one of the dogs he stops what he is doing and gives them some love. Lacey loves the pools. They aren't big but they are fun for the dogs to cool off and splash in. When I pick her up she is fast asleep by the time we get to the courthouse on the way home. We live about 10 miles from there. When we turn on our road she wakes up,wants dinner, and she is out for the night. So nice to have a safe and fun place to take her if I have shopping to do or a day trip to Phoenix. I have also had her boarded when I travel without her and I feel confident she is in safe and loving hands. Makes me able to enjoy my travels knowing she is happy and secure. Kimey C. read more

Next I asked for a tour "We don't do tours" Finally after the 4 hr evaluation "We would like you to bring her back for another 4 hr eval, she just ran and wanted to play too much." today is friday, april 3. went to run a muk yesterday to drop off roxy. there was a sign on door saying they are temporarily closed due to virus. doesn't AZ know run a muk is essential?? lol - i was very saddened. Roxy loves run a muk. she would not get back in the car! Mike, Heidi, reina, gael, matt, dawny, (sp)? and all the others if i missed mentioning you, roxy c. misses you! so do i! i know keeping distance, masks, gloves - place was always clean - logistics very difficult. I hope you are all healthy and stay that way. This has just affected all of us in so many different ways. look forward to bringing roxy to run a muk again - hopefully sooner rather than later. My dog came home happy and tired. That's enough for me. I was surprised she passed the assessment because she exhibits fearful aggression, but the staff said she did fine with other dogs. They also made careful accommodations to her escape tendencies. I felt she got appropriate personal attention. We'll use Run-A-Mok again. read more

I have a Jack Russell Terrier who is aggressive towards other dogs when she is walked (daily) on leash. I boarded her and my older Jack at Doggie Dude Ranch, where they were SUPPOSED to assess her with other dogs. When I picked them up after a weekend out of town, I found out they had NEVER even tried to assess her. In fact, they had just assumed she was bad, and had let my other Jack out to play with the other dogs, but kept Mimzy in a cage the whole week. She was very subdued and sad for several days afterwards, acting as if she had been mistreated. After about a year, I heard about Run-A-Muck and decided to try again but didn't get my hopes up. She went in for her free assessment and they told me she played really hard all afternoon and interacted well with the other dogs. I was shocked! She's been going to Run-A-Muck for 2 years now - always excited to go play when we arrive - always in great spirits when I pick her up. She has a wonderful time romping with the other dogs and playing with the attendants who DO pay attention to the dogs. I don't know why Nikky F. had such a bad experience. When I pick my dog up after being boarded, she's wet because they give her a free bath if I call an hour ahead of pick-up time. I really appreciate that! My dog loves Run-A-Muk, the rates are reasonable, the employees know her by name, and she has never acted like she's been mistreated like she did after her Doggie Dude Ranch episode. Instead, she is happy, exhausted, and always ready to go the next time. P.S. I recommended Run-A-Muck to my co-worker because she had adopted a rescue dog who was scared of other dogs and people. She also was very happy with her dog's treatment at Run-A-Muk. Her dog has grown lots more confident and playful, and now goes to day care there weekly. read more

We have brought our 2 dogs here intermittently over the past 3+ years, for stays as long as 8 consecutive days. Service has always been good and our dogs do not seem traumatized at all when they come home. As another reviewer mentioned, the dogs are exhausted when they come home, which means they have been kept active. One time when we had left the dogs at Run-A-Muck Unleashed, another dog had injured our greyhound (nose had received a wound). Run-A-Muck called us immediately to let us know the dog had been taken to Mile-Hi Animal Hospital and treated and all was OK. I was extremely appreciative that they called to let us know about the situation, rather than hearing about it 7 days later when we would pick up the dogs. I often call the facility midway through the dogs' stay to see how they are doing and the staff is very friendly and thorough in the information they relay. read more

Do not recommend if you are concerned about your dog being outside ALL day, in the dirt with questionable supervision. I did not get a good feeling when they will not allow dog owners in the back to check out overnight boarding and or the play area. Have never had a problem with boarding my dogs in my 20 years of dog boarding but there was a distinct lack of empathy from the outside employee in how to work with a variety of reasonable dog personalities. What an undesirable environment! Only positive was the front office reception. read more

I would give this place "minus" stars if I could. I had to go out of the country on business and had only short notice to find a place to board my cats. (They do board cats here too, supposedly in an area separate from the dogs.) I brought them here because it is owned by Brice Smith, D.V.M., who I have in the past used as my animals' veterinarian, and who owns Mile-Hi Animal Hospital. I mistakenly thought a boarding facility owned by a vet would be safe! Oh no! ALL of my cats (except one) came home VERY distressed showing various extremely disturbed behaviors; most had lost a significant amount of weight; and every one that had had allergies, irritable bowel or some either previously well-controlled chronic illness came home in full-blown relapse -- medical conditions that I still am trying to get under control, more than a month later. Worst of all, one of the cats had OBVIOUSLY been intentionally physically abused and terrorized while there. I have filed a formal POLICE REPORT concerning the abuse of this specific animal, but because there were no obvious lacerations or broken bones, the police cannot open a criminal investigation on the matter. Other cats acted as if they very likely had been abused (one howled for three days non-stop upon returning home, pacing incessantly around the house; another tore open a hole in the fabric lining on the underside of the living room couch -- she crawled up INSIDE the couch to hide and came out only to eat once a day, and she also urinated and defecated in abnormal, hidden places near the couch, instead of venturing further away to use her normal litter box -- this went on FOR MORE THAN A MONTH; others acted extremely "clingy" and fearful for several weeks or more after coming home. I could go on and on -- it was sickening to observe, it's making me feel sick just to write this. ALL of these cats are mature adult animals who have been boarded in multiple facilities (including ones where they actually were in the same area as dogs) over the years; they have had multiple in-home cat-sitters as well; and there has NEVER BEFORE BEEN A PROBLEM WITH ANY OF THEM. NEVER. I thought it was suspicious when I initially went there and they flatly refused to allow me to see where the cats would be kenneled (as noted also by another reviewer here, "Nikky F.") but because I mistakenly trusted Dr. Smith, I decided to overlook this otherwise serious "red flag." The people working there mostly appear to have been referred to work there by some sort of juvenile rehab program -- except for the middle-aged manager, they all appeared to be 20-somethings, heavily tatooed, multiple body-piercings, discs inserted in their ear-lobes to distend them like Ubangi tribesmen, etc. The two different young women I observed working the front desk didn't have obvious tatooes, piercings, etc., but both appeared to have some kind of mental/emotional issues -- one of them appeared to likely be anorexic and/or on heavy medication or illegal drugs of some sort. I could go on and on -- other issues include an expensive "lost" cat carrier; more than $50 worth of missing, very-expensive cat food; and hundreds of dollars of "accidental" overcharges on my bill. I am in the process of taking whatever civil actions I can to warn people about this horrible place and try to get money back for lost/stolen items and bill overcharges. Oh -- one other thing -- if you disagree with the amount of your bill, it's just too bad -- if you don't pay up what they demand, they won't release your pet(s) to you, and after three days their policy is to turn your animals over to "the authorities," whoever that may be, as "abandoned." I don't know whether Dr. Smith has much idea of what is going on at this place, but if he does, he is guilty of hideous malpractice of some sort. Dealing with this has been one of the most toxic, sickening experiences of my life. Run-a-Muk (properly spelled "run amok" by those who can spell) is what the employees are doing here, there's no doubt of that. Caveat emptor! read more

Booked for the Nov 26th 2016 but had to cancel for change of plans called November 22 to cancel, was informed by the lady that answered the phone that if they were unable to get somebody to fill that space I would be responsible to pay I informed her that nothing was told to me in reference to canceling and she stated that they were busy and some things that should have been said weren't. There was no verbal agreement in reference to this there was also no written or signed agreement which from what I can find is illegal in the state of Arizona. I spoke to the owner of Run A Muk and his only response was he was sorry for the misunderstanding. Take your pets elsewhere. read more

I can't believe I did not already see Run-A-Muck listed in Yelp. I have a 100 pound black lab that is 2 years old and he LOVES it here. I bring him for doggie day care at least once per week so he can play with his friends. He always comes home happy and exhausted. The first visit is free so they can evaluate your pet to make sure there are no issues. For doggie day care you can pay by the day which is what we do. When you pay this way, after 10 visits you get one free with their punch card program. You can also purchase discounted packages of bulk day care. They also do boarding. We have not done that yet but would not hesitate to. The staff are friendly and really seem to care for and pay attention to the dogs. They are always happy to give me a report at the end of the day and tell my how my pooch did. I believe that they are owned by Mile-Hi Animal Hospital. It is a great place to take your dog for some play time. I usually drop my boy off in the morning before work (8:00 ish) and pick him up at the end of the day (5:00 ish). For the full day of doggie day care it is $20.00. Money well spend when my pup comes home so exhausted he wants to eat and sleep. A good puppy is a tired puppy and boy is he tired when he comes home. It is like taking a kid to day camp! read more
