I ordered a pair of Hoka online and the Hoka website gave me an option to pick up at store. I thought that was a great idea help support local business and get the shoes I want. I was greeted when I came and I told them I'm just here to pick up shoe I ordered online. They said all thier reps were busy I would have to wait until someone was free. 15 min later I could see all the reps were mid-stream in thier sales pitch with customers. I thought to myself I'm not waiting around for 20-30 min to pick up a shoe I already purchased and paid for this isn't convenience at all. I finally got another reps attention and said I'm just here to pick up shoes I already paid for online. The business needs to think of online customers as the drive through and get them out quick otherwise no one will send business thier way. I came looking for athletic shoes. I didn't need anything specific, because I'm not a "runner" in the normal sense of the word. I'm more like an avid walker and every day elliptical user, so I am definitely active, but I don't put as much stress on my feet and joints as actual runners. Nevertheless, I came looking for athletic shoes and I found an abundance here. They have a large women's running shoe section, and this is the kind of place where they will size your feet and watch you as you walk and run around the store to see if the shoes are working on your feet the way they should. When I visited, it was a little crowded, so I had to wait a bit to talk to someone. But the people I talked to were knowledgeable and friendly. I was greeted as soon as I hit the door. Which is always good if the store is busy or not. I wish I had remembered the guys name. I initially came in to pick up an online order for some everyday jogging training. I was immediately asked if I'd like to try them on and assisted with it. The guy who helped me was knowledgeable and answered all my inquiries about other brands and styles of shoes. Specifically for race day. I recently took up daily walking and found that the types of tennies I've relied on for years just won't work. I wear a 10.5 wide and my left foot over pronates so I assumed I was doomed to ugly tennis shoes only available online but I figured I would give Runners Forum a chance. To be clear, I'm not a runner, and I was nervous to go in here because I'm a big gal and was worried I'd have one of those Pretty Women moments where they say "We don't have anything for you!", but I couldn't succumb to the ugly online shoes without trying, so I sucked it up and walked in. I was immediately greeted and was offered help. I explained my plight and she said she'd take a look in the back for something that would help. After a few minutes, I was brought two different options and a promise of more if needed. The first pair I tried on was a slam dunk but did my due diligence on trying on a different pair. Great store for all ages & all people, and it's been around a long time, and has always had a strong reputation. You don't need to be a runner ... this is a store for anyone needing professional fitting & proper, comfortable 'running shoes'. I am a woman non-runner in her 60s who likes to walk & I have painful feet. I come here every year to get a new pair of shoes to wear when I walk/exercise; be prepared to spend $200 (don't let that scare you; you get what you pay for & comfortable shoes that help with proper leg alignment are priceless). I get men's shoes so I can get a wider toe box; I wouldn't have thought to do that on my own without Runners Forum's input. The staff will promptly greet you and measure your feet. They'll determine if you are a pronator or supinator (do you walk on the inside or outside of your feet). Then they'll bring out a few shoe boxes for you to try on and walk up/down a 'walkway' while they watch you walk. It's interesting how you'll know which ones feel best right away, and they will provide input as to which shoe helps you walk the most correctly. Be prepared to not necessarily love the color/style of shoes they say are right for your feet; this is about comfort & proper fit! Luckily I have found neutral shoes that aren't too bad in appearance. My feet thank me every year after I visit Runners Forum :). While there get a good pair of socks too, and they accept/recycle/donate used running shoes so bring those in. read more

I was greeted, Sherry watched me walk and run and analyzed my gait, and recommended a few different types of shoes based off my needs and feet. I tried them all on and compared each, finally picking some cool and funky, but super comfy running shoes. She recommended better socks than I was wearing to avoid blisters and I was on my way! Having been a runner/walker for 41 years, you learn that where you buy your shoes can make a huge difference. I see people on the Monon Trail who are in exactly the wrong shoe for their gait, and if I ask them about any pain they might be having, they always ask how I knew they were in pain. Their dysfunctional shoes connected to their awkward gait scream PAIN!!! Since I bought my first pair of running shoes at the Runner's Forum back in 1980, they have always taken the time to make sure that I fit the shoe that they have sold me. They have a wide selection of different brands in various widths, that allow you to feel the differences between each model, testing them on their indoor track to make sure that they are ideal. A person's gait dictates a certain type of shoe, and they really zero in on making sure that the gait and the shoe work perfectly together to make running or walking an enjoyable, pain free experience. For example, today I bought a new pair of shoes. The person that was helping me asked if I was having any issues with the Brooks shoes that I was currently wearing. I said that I liked them, but wished they had some more forefoot cushioning. My problem is that I have a 4E width foot and not many manufacturers make 4E shoes. And, even fewer stores have them in stock. She went to the back and brought out 2 different 4E shoes other than the Brooks. I tried on the 2 different pairs and discovered that the Hoka One shoes had significantly more forefoot padding and completely solved the forefoot pressure I was feeling. It takes a store with significant inventory to make that happen. That is why I very highly recommend the Runner's Forum. I will always buy my running shoes from them. I am brand new to running. I wanted to have a gait assessment to make sure I get the right shoe to reduce my risk of injury. I was a little intimidated at first because I'd never had a gait analysis before so I didn't know what to expect. That Intimidation was quickly dissolved. After disappointing service at other similar stores in the area, I gave Runners Forum a try when I needed new running shoes. As they were well-staffed on a weekend morning, I got 1:1 help. I explained my training needs and problems with my old shoes, and the employee I was working with brought me multiple options to try. I also jogged on their little indoor track for a gait analysis. The employee is a runner himself, and I trusted his recommendations. I got to jog in each shoe he brought out to see what would really work for me. I explained I was training for a race much farther than I've run before and needed help with other products as well. The employee made really helpful recommendations on sweat wicking socks and also "fuel" for long runs. I didn't feel like he was just trying to make a sale, I really felt like he was helping me learn how to more effectively train. read more

I am not a runner by any stretch of the imagination. I haven't "run a mile" in lord knows how long but I have cholestorol problems and cardio is a high recommendation to help me stay standing and have a longer life. My hubby burns loads of calories running but said if I was to join him, I needed to get a new pair of shoes. He knows the manager (Smitty) and recommended I head over to this place when I had a few minutes. Other than the awkward amount of indoor running I had to do on the track, it was a breeze of an experience. Who knew I would be so limited in my choices after the employee helping me (tall blond with legs for days) saw me run up and down a makeshift track barefoot. She brought out three pairs and though I didn't love my color options, I chose the most comfortable pair (Brooks) and after a quick comparison to online retailers, realized the price was competitive and the service was well worth the purchase. She also told me if I have issues I could come back and try again and the return policy was pretty good. She recommended a pair of socks, since I also don't actually own any and then I was on my way. For $130 it was worth it. I have been jogging weekly since and am (almost) up to 1.5 miles. Can I get a hell yah?? I might consider running a 5K soon, but don't hold your breath. What I do recommend - if you are a new runner or someone who enjoys running, this is a great place. It is a bit hard to find tucked behind the Taco Bell just off Carmel drive. But overall, I would (and probably will) go back for my running needs. Especially the socks. Love them actually. Want more but wish they weren't $15/pair. BOO to that. read more

I'm torn on Runners Forum. I want to love them for being one of the only Triathlon stores in the Indy area (and self-proclaimed to be the first), but the service leaves something to be desired. I first used Runners Forum last year to rent a wetsuit for a triathlon. When I picked up my rental I asked what else I needed to help easily put it on. The guy working told me "patience". That was his opportunity to upsell me on body glide or something similar. I didn't know what I needed, but after putting on/taking off that wetsuit without aid I can tell you I needed something. Today, I stopped in to look at new running shoes. Specifically, I wanted triathlon specific shoes. I was the only person in the store and I had the attention of the only worker. She was knowledgeable, but wasn't focused on my needs. I learned some things about her and her life, but she could have sold me on more gear if she focused on me. I found the exact shoe i wanted, but they didn't have my size. I left and ordered it on Amazon because I didn't feel like I wanted to pay the extra cost to give RF my business. I'll probaby be back, but if i just need running shoes I'm going back to BlueMile. read more

Let me begin by saying that I am walker and occasional jogger. However, I went to RF with my better half when he needed new shoes and gear for the revival of his own running habit. On arrival, I decided maybe I needed better shoes as well, as my old pair seemed to require as much effort to keep them on as to propel myself forward in them. The attentive and dare I say, extremely knowledgeable, staff worked with me to find a pair of New Balance that I absolutely love and would never have known to select for myself. I also snapped up some socks (can't remember the name right now, but they're grey and white) that are so comfortable, I often wear them sans any shoes at all :-) Both my guy and I found some excellent bargains among the clothing racks - hey, even walkers need cool duds! Best of all, though, these guys never made me feel any less important than their most "elite runner" client. They were very encouraging even when I kept downplaying my own fitness efforts...by the time I left, I was thinking about getting back into 5Ks again! read more

Due to a recent back injury my son's physical therapist recommend that he purchase a maximum support shoe. The therapist provided the names of a couple retails and shoe brands. I figured special shoes meant big bucks. My son and I went to Runners Forum to look for shoes. The employee that greeted us new exactly what my son needed. He showed us 3 different shoes that met my son's need. Unfortunately, they were out of the size my son wears in one of the brands. My son picked out the shoe he liked and during the whole visit the Runners Forum associate was very pleasant and providing advise to my son. The young lady who helped me had me walk and run on the track to determine whether or not I over-pronated and what kind of arch I had. She had me try five pairs. I ended up with Asics. These people know their stuff. I was training for a sprint triathlon and couldn't figure out why my goggles kept leaking. I spoke with an employee and he thoughtfully suggested junior goggles for my less than adult size head. I don't remember exactly how he phrased it but he was very kind and they worked like a charm. I returned for another challenging problem related to blisters on my feet while running. They took time with me and helped me find a pair of shoes in hopes they would work. They reminded me to simply return them if they didn't work out and we would try again. Of course I lost my receipt but they didn't ask any questions and again, helped me find another pair.
