DO NOT HIRE RUSAL CONSTRUCTION. Salvatore "Jay" Servidio is an unscrupulous contractor. His father may have founded Rusal Construction in 1946 and built a thriving, honest business, but clearly they are under new management. He will attempt to change the terms/cost of the contract randomly, charge you for services without your approval, and abandon the job if you don't pay these new charges. If you hire Rusal Construction, you're guaranteed more stress in your life and less money in your pocket. There isn't enough room to describe all the underhanded business practices that Jay Servidio will attempt to separate you and your money. As per Westchester Dept of Consumer Protection, his license in Westchester was revoked on July 22nd, 2013, nearly 2 months after I hired him but one week before work actually started (it must have slipped his mind since he never mentioned it). He has been levied $20,000 in violations/fines by them for complaints from customers and sub-contractors and has been listed as a "Renegade Renovator". He is not licensed as a contractor to work in NYC. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS! 9/21/2013 UPDATE: In my last communication with Servidio on 9/10/2013, he told me to "Have a nice life" when he suggested I hire his subcontractors and pay them directly. To get the job done as close to budget as possible, I have worked out a deal with the sub, who complained that Rusal still owed him money and that he felt bad about leaving the job incomplete. So work has resumed and will hopefully be done soon. Servidio must have read this review because he sent me another email: "Even after we get the ball rolling again and get your bathroom finished you still had to make trouble for me. Well now you get to sample how it feels to be dirtied on the internet. Give me a few days and I will accommodate both of you. Then you can have the experience." I phoned Rusal and Sal was very responsive, he came out the next day. We discussed the work I wanted performed and we agreed on a price (exterior house painting, replace front stoop, powerwash and paint the back deck, and either install a new storm door or replace gutters if necessary). I was very impressed with the work once they begun. The house exterior was cleaned and scraped, rotten shingles and trim where replaced and nails were reset. When the work on the front stoop and back deck started I recieved a call from one of the workers asking me what type of railing I wanted on my back deck. I wasn't having a new railing installed, but was informed the old one was already torn off. I spoke with Sal and he acknowledged the error and said they would install the new railing on them. I appreciated that. I believe Marco was the staff member who handled all of the word work and the quality of the railing is excellent. It has visual appeal and is very sturdy. I don't have a lot of experience with contractors so this was a learning experience for me. The only issue I had after the job was complete was that they only painted one coat on the doors which you could see the old paint through. When I called Sal, he immediately sent someone out to paint another coat. Overall the work performed was excellent, the painters and carpenters at Rusal are very skilled and I would use them again. read more

I hired Rusal Construction to redo a bathroom and replace a kitchen countertop, floor and add some backsplash tile. In the bathroom They removed the old floor tile, toilet, vanity and bathtub with plastic tub surround. A new tub was installed with surround tile and a glass shower door and a new toilet. New baseboard was added all the way around to replace the existing tile base. The bathroom floor was replaced with new tile and a new vanity and medicine cabinet were installed. In the kitchen The old countertop and linoleum floor were removed and the floor was releveled. A new tile floor and a granite countertop were installed with a nice rustic backsplash tile. There were a few hiccups with some of the materials taking a while to come in. That can be expected with the amount of items that were ordered. Aside from that, the work was done to my liking and the contractor properly kept me in the loop on preferences and considerations. Keep in mind, the home improvement chains are great for the basics but can be lacking when it comes to higher end materials. On higher end remodels, a great wholesale supplier becomes a very important piece of the process. Rusal Construction put me in touch with a great wholesaler that saved me thousands on some great materials. I highly recommend Sal and the crew at Rusal. read more

I hired Rusal Construction to remodel my bathroom. Actually a complete new bathroom. I live in a Coop (working around there rules.) including limited working hours etc... I initially spoke with Sal, the owner, Summer time of 2012. He sent one of his contractors to my coop to measure everything out and ask what I wanted. After meeting with the contractor, I was sent an estimate. Sal worked with me regarding my budget. After some back and forth discussion I decided to hire Rusal for my bathroom remodel. There was a time delay regarding paperwork as my coop board is very finicky. After some understandable delays the work finally got started. When all is said and done Rusal worked extremely hard to make sure I was happy with the job. They even cleaned up after themselves, including the hall and adjacent bedroom. I found Rusal to be compliant with all the crazy rules of my coop and respectful of my neighbors. The job was a big one and it turned out just as we discussed and within my budget as discussed. The day I called for the estimate he showed up,with 2 of his staff to do a complete estimate . I had all the numbers in 24 hours including the plumbing and electrical . I then went to see his distributor in the Bronx to pick out exactly the type of tub I wanted. He got it for me over $1000.00 cheaper than I could find anyplace else! The work began the following week and again Rusal staff was polite and cleaned up at the ends of each day! In order to accommodate the new tub they had to move a wall over but they explained it to me before hand. I knew exactly what they were doing and the added expense of it. As questions came up Sal answered them promptly. I can't say enough positive things about Rusal. It is the 3rd time they did major work for me and we love them. You can't believe how beautiful my master bathroom looks now and huge too! I love it and the tub is terrific and really relaxes me I highly recommend Rusal Construction to anyone looking for remodeling services. read more

They knew this was a tough period for me and did their best to meet my financial limits and still find a way to accomplish the task. It took me several weeks to make sure that I had the funds to pay the bill and then when I gave them a green light, they jumped on the task at the very first possible warm/dry days. They showed up with a solid crew that did the work quickly, put down tarps to catch the majority of the mess, and then vacuumed after themselves. Reusable debris (old shutters I asked them to remove) was piled out of the way in the right place even though I wasn't there that day to show them where to put it. They were careful to follow up to see if I approved of the work and sent me a bill a bit faster than I expected. Even so, they flexed and gave me the extra time I needed to see to it that money was in the right account so that my check would not bounce. All my contacts with these folks (Sal who oversaw the work) was warm, cordial, helpful and professional. I highly recommend these guys! read more
